Why do we all love Mortal Kombat. What is it about it that reels us in into its in depth story lines and characters?
Put more info in the thread title.

Allready noticed that I only visit the General Discussion (and FanArt) on MKO? Most of the members don't really like MK, c'mon people, be honest!

People probably joined during the hype of MKDA or MKD and made friends and then got stuck here no matter how bad those two titles were. But I can say that probably every member here loved MK1 & MKII.

Except that guy that got his account hijacked by his girlfriend.
I only like the classic 2D MK games: MK, MKII, MK3/U3/T, and MKM: SZ.

This was the first forum I ever joined. I came here to get info on the old games, and rumors that I didn't know. I found nothing new, aside from technical info, and cool glitches. Then I tried my hand in the fan submissions for a while, with varying results. I also ended up writing my first, and only FAQ for a game I don't even like.

This place is pretty dull, but it does have it's occasional ups.

No, no and no. I disagree with all of you. Mortal kombat is always interesting...and this site is a place I often visit because it is cool!!

Mortal kombat hype is the reason why many people join. When a new game is about to be released, people tend to speculate about the game for months and months...I remember all the hype after MKDA came out, and the hype before MKD was released..that was fun.

Sorry to say this..but alot of poeple like MK...and in all honesty, if you dont like MK..why do you show up at MKO?? It just lowers this sites liveyhood with comments like saying MK is not what im here for.

People aren't pleased that MK has gone down, they know it has so much potential and want it done right. But you do have some good points.
The hype was fun, but after it dies down you get floods of n00bs claiming everything but their aunt Agnes is in the game. That ruins the atmosphere, and mystique of the site, and that isn't fun.

I hate Mortal Kombat when it comes to gameply but i do like the stories and some characters.

You gotta understand, the majority of the users in MKO hate/dislike MK. Just because your in a site all about Mortal Kombat doesnt mean you have to like it. Some people are only here to meet people, have an off topic discussion in the general section or even look at each others sig. At some point, yes, we do like MK but i know one user in MKO who hates Mortal Kombat all the time (never liked it one bit). And now that i think about it, i do hate Mortal Kombat. Though, i miss the good old days when all the good users are here, waiting for MKD to come out sad.

Just like BlackErmac I visit the General Discussion from time to time. I don't care that much about MK since several years.

The majority of the people who come here and stay here do because of the friendships they make; we're a community that came together because we at least thought that the game was good at one point, and people's opinions do change. The majority who will eventually post in this thread might not like the game anymore, but their friends are still here, which is a good-enough reason to stay.

I love the MK storyline, but I don't play the game anymore, and I'm starting to try out other games which are a lot more fun, and that doesn't mean that I'm going to stop visiting and posting in the community.
I love MK in the way a fat kid loves cake.

Well it used to be that way...sad

The thing that attracted me to Mortal Kombat was that storyline and the interesting characters. The game itself is not that great, but the storytelling is pretty good.

Well, so far I've enjoyed all of the MK games I've played(which is everything but MKM:SZ and MKSF). And I really love the stories and characters(and numerous retcons :p ). The gameplay's...enjoyable enough for me and I'd love to see it improve with these suggestions of the MKO users. But I don't really play the games that much anymore. I'm just continually playing the GTA and Resident Evil games and coming on here, though recently I've been playing more MKD.

I hardly read the boards that have to do with the games and movies, as a lot of the threads confuse me(see the stickied gameplay threads) or don't interest me(most everything else on their and even a lot of stuff on here). My PRIMARY reason for being on here is the chat, though. I love being in there.

This is a site called Mortal Kombat Online, and barely any people actually play or like MK. The 'community excuse' is seemingly fine, but what's stopping you from going to a site like tekkenzaibatsu.com and being around those that share your gaming preference, rather than annoy those (or most) that don't?

It makes as much sense as a diehard PS2 fan hanging around Xbox forums, constantly making threads about how cool PS2 is. And when people start to argue about it, shouldn't that be expected? Although he had made some friends in the past, he still talks to them via MSN or Yahoo.

Or a Democrat hanging around a Republican website, and posting "You should've voted for Kerry" or "Go Clinton!", although he is good friends with some people outside of politics. That's not to place an analogy on most here (some like Jerrod don't), but some do and they know who they are.

As for me, I didn't necessarily grow up with the MK classics, but I was hooked after playing MK4 at an arcade. Like most say, it's the character and story depth that captivated me, still does. Even the fighting engine, although blatantly flawed, is something I always enjoy using, perhaps more than any other fighting game. Far be it for me to say something like this among this crowd, but I'm a loyal MK fan (oh!), I intend to always be (gasp!), and I thought MKDA and MKD were excellent. (weeping of women and children, moon turns to blood)

Alright, commence with the tomatoes. Or rocks. Or pieces of broken glass, just be gentle.

You will probs notice that the people who were signed up BEFORE MKD was released, doesn't like MK anymore. Those who joined AFTER, are still huge fans.

WOW did not excpect this at all. I remeber when i was about 5 or 6 and was constantly down at my cousins house playing the classics on the snes and then on playstation. I was addicted and couldnt get unhooked thejn when i saw the first film i was like WOW i wanan be a ninja lol. It made a huge impact on me i couldnt stop talking about it. Then when i saw trhe second film i was glad to see a lot of the characters in it but i would rather the acting was better and the SFX. THe animalitys at the end looked like something off "Jason and the Argonouts" or "Sinbad." I went off it for a bit but when i got MK4 i was back again addicted until i had completed it fully. TIme passed i got the PS2 and rather play games like mentioned further up GTA and FIFA. I saw a ad on TV about 7 months ago for MK:D for £15 at a shop and i thought WOW and got it. Again i was addicted i thought it was a great game ( My view ) I couldnt wait for MK:SM got it the day it came out and completed it over 2 days. i regret this because it is useless now without 2 players. I do admintt that it was a lot better in the classic times but i still LOVE MK!! Lets hope they dont make a complete mess of the new film and try to restore evrebodys love for MK

One word:

FATALITIES!!!

the only game, other than Killer Instinct, that you can brutally beat the hell out of another gamer and then kill them at the end, and humiliating them too.

Now, we have the Hari-Kiri, so the loser can now humiliate the winner horribly(sp?) and still have fun doing so.
