Why is it bothering me that the select screen is broken up into heros and villians? It's perfectly sensible, and it doesn't give away possible story swerves by breaking it down to regime and insurgency...and yet I feel bothered by it. Huh.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's all the open space between the hero set and the villain set. It doesn't look like a select screen so much as two select screens chilling out next to each other.
It looks okay, but being a 90's fighting gamer, I really do miss the huge block-sized portraits with the unique backgrounds. Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 were the best at that. Every character would be looking a slightly different direction. Sub-Zero had a snow flurry in his background while Scorpion had fire in his, and Jax is tilting his head with the American Flag background... it looked so tight. I hated that MK9's select screen was just a compilation of small heads all looking the same direction.

if you think about it someone like mmh would have shape shifting abilities like shang stung wile atrocitus would be a reptile like charachter afterall he does spit fire blood on mother fuckers. now black canary would be a sindel type of charachter with her canary sing

I'm thinking that Atrocitus might be DLC and it would be nice if Gorilla Grodd would join him lol but I think Grodd is the sub-boss and Ares might be the main boss
Why would Grodd be the sub-boss? That makes no sense. I can't see Ares as boss either. If anything, Ares would probably move heaven and earth to stop this regime because it cuts him off from his source of power, namely war.
Given what we currently know about the story, I think it's far more logical to see Superman himself as the boss. Heck, maybe they'll even pull a Civil War on us that lets you decide on who's side you're on, effectively changing the boss character between Superman and Batman depending on your choice.
