Watched the trailer. Room for improvement, but I am impressed! I look forward to beating the ever loving shit out of Superman. Again.

I'm loving that this is what we'll be getting in between the next MK. I am a huge DC/Marvel fan, so it'll be nice to get a DC centered fighter. It's quite fitting that Marvel teams up with the creators of Street Fighter, and DC is teamed up with NRS. I love both styles of games, so it's awesome we're getting this game. Beyond Batman games over the years, DC really doesn't get represented well in video games. So it's nice to see them get this.

My personal first impressions, just based solely on the trailer, is I am stoked and excited by the look and presentation so far, but I feel like the gameplay seen leaves more to be desired. NRS really needs to seperate this from MK, but keep the same fun gameplay basics. I just hope they don't make this too gimmick oriented. That's where MK(2011) flourished over their previous titles in terms of gameplay. Less gimmicks used in battle. They had the X-Ray and Ex move bar, but those worked and fit well. I do not want to see Free Fall Combat, Test Your Might button mashing level transitioning, or Close Combat etc. Most importantly, this game needs to be on a fixed 2D plane, not 3D. It's well established that they do 2D fighting so much better than 3D. The game plays better, looks better, and flows better.

With that stuff said, here's what I hope we get for a roster, which in a game like this with such an established franchise already, is extremely important:

I'm hoping for around 28 in total, like MK.

Confirmed:
1. Batman
2. Superman
3. Wonder Woman
4. Harley Quinn
5. Flash
6. Solomon Grundy

7. Green Arrow
8. Green Lantern
9. Martian Manhunter
10. Cyborg
11. Lex Luthor
12. Sinestro
13. Swamp Thing
14. Animal Man
15. Shazam
16. Lobo
17. Darkseid
18. Starfire
19. Black Adam
20. Aquaman
21. Roreshach
22. The Comedian or Dr. Manahattan
23. The Joker
24. Catwoman
25. Bane
26. Nightwing
27. Robin
28. Deathstroke

I would love the inclusion of more Batman villains, but beyond the ones listed above, I don't see them being included. I think the likes of the Scarecrow, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and Ra's Al Ghul, Two Face, or even one of the Talons from the Court of the Owls going on right now in the Batman ucomics, would all play very fun and interesting. However, if they want to make room for more DC heroes outside of Batman, they have to limit who they include.

Indifferent of the entire thing. I really don't know if what I saw was something I could get into or pass and wait to see what Netherrealm Studios does next.

The 2.5D gameplay has been confirmed as far as I'm concerned, which is great. I agree that MK/DC had too much gimmicks for a player to actually enjoy them but on the bright side they worked as "experiments" for the developers to see how they are received.
It's interesting that you included Roreshach because he's not really from the DC universe but an alternative Watchmen universe. In the same manner just any MK character could be included because they are from an unspecified DC universe today, probably MK/DC only currently, but not the DC universe as we know it. Note: Some scriptwriters nowadays actually want to separate Metropolis and Gotham City from being in the same existence but generally speaking they're in the same cosmos.
Could we consider The Joker semi-confirmed after this screenshot?

I'd say it's almost a given that Joker will show up. Either as main cast, or DLC. A fighting game based on the DC universe with Batman in it just wouldn't be right without The Joker. (Hence one of Justice League Task Force for SNES/Genisis muck ups... should have had Joker lol.)

@Cagefan21:

I'm actually more concerned with the fact that Batman appears to suddenly have super strength out of the blue... WTF?! It's weird to see him kick a huge guy like Grundy (or anyone really) up and through a building. The best thing about Batman is that he's NOT super-powered in any way.

I'd be kinda happy to see Hawkgirl in the game. She was, after all, my favorite in the Justice League cartoon... before they decide to take her off.

I don't know, I think the name is ok. It's kind of fitting (considering the types of battles they're aiming for.)

My question comes with the tag line of the trailer. "What if our greatest heroes became our greatest threat?"

What type of corruption could we be talking about there? One where the super-powered heroes decide that free will has gotten in the way for the human race and they decide to use their power to keep peace through force, being tyrants?

Or are we talking all out good guys turned bad? I'd likely say it's the former... but who knows. Not enough has been revealed.

In concept, I'm not terribly excited for this game. My encounter with comic book characters (outside of the X-Men cartoon) has been predominately through video games, so I never developed an attachment to DC. I loved the Batman villains, but seeing them in a fighting game context doesn't do anything for me. It's the same that principle applies to Freddy Krueger: it's a character I like, but it's not a character I'd ever want to emulate. As a kid, I didn't want to grow up and become The Riddler.

I might have wanted to emulate one the DC heroes, but since I was only exposed to them through film media, I never got emotionally invested in them the way I did with Psylocke, Nightcrawler, or Venom. I heard really good things about the Batman Animated Series, but I missed out on it during it's original run time.

However, I'm excited as hell about the gameplay. I'm very curious to see who I'm gonna main in this game. Green Arrow and Aquaman particularly have me excited. If the game is balanced and the transition from MK9 is smooth/intuitive, I'll compete in it locally.

I included Watchmen characters even though they may not be in the same universe, because they are DC owned, and I think with the movie a couple years back, the popularity of the characters has grown. Thus, putting them in a game like this, especially with the new Watchmen comics coming out and rumors of a possible movie sequel, it would benefit greatly to at least include 2 just for exposure and fun. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy the inclusion of Roreschach, Comedian, Silk Spectre, or Dr. Manhattan etc. If this is a DC mashup, put them in. I'd love to have a couple of them.

As for Batman kicking Grundy through a building... I think in a game like this, we aren't really supposed to take realism or belivability too seriously. Of course that wouldn't happen logically, but in a fighting game these things are all part of the fun. Superman knocks people such as Batman up into space that normally would die, but they live in the game, as well as when Wonder Woman smashes a car on Harley, and she's fine. It's just like in MK when people get burnt, frozen, spears in the chest, limbs broken, eyes gauged out, necks snapped, and bomb explosions on them and they shed a little blood and still continue to battle just fine. Or in MvC where regular Capcom and Street Fighter characters can go toe to toe with Hulk or Wolverine etc. Even though it's not really true to the characters in the comics etc. It's just part of the game.

The game has far to go yet in development, and I hope they get it to the standards of the last MK. It doesn't need to be MK, and shouldn't for many reasons, I am purely talking about quality of gameplay and fun, as well as content offered. They can really make a great DC game, which they're really aren't many of. So they should take this chance and run with it. Give it just as much attention as they did with the last MK. I personally cannot wait for a storymode and being able to fight using a bunch of characters I grew up loving. For me eversince childhood my 3 biggest favorite things were Mortal Kombat, Mario, and Superheroes (Batman, X-men, Spiderman, Justice League etc.) So for me it's like chocolate and peanut butter mixed together having the MK team developing DC games. I enjoyed MK vs DC greatly because it was a mashup of two childhood favorites that I never thought possible. I'm glad that wasn't the last i's seen of DC done by NRS.

I kinda expect the majority of heroes to be from these: Batman, Superman, Captain Marvel, Green Lantern, Flash, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Robin, Nightwing, Power Girl, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Black Canary, Firestorm, Plastic Man, Red Tornado, Cyborg, Vixen, Swamp Thing, and Aquaman. As for the villains: Lex Luthor, Joker, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Azrael, Black Manta, Mirror Master, Despero, Bane, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Sinestro, Two-Face, Ra Al Ghul, Brainiac, Scarecrow, Penguin, Felix Faust, Lobo, Deathstroke, Catwoman, Star Sapphire, Doomsday, Parallax, Mongul, Clayface, Gorilla Grod, and Darkseid.

I doubt we'll see any Watchmen, Sandman, or Jonah Hex; maybe a Teen Titan or 2 but I doubt that too. We'll probably see MK characters before any of them even though a few would be pretty kewl I guess.

By all means do include them, I was just stating that. They're iconic.
I agree with that. This is NeRdS's iteration and they can do whatever they want with it! I wish...
That was a good idiom. And I like chocolate. Peanut butter, on the other hand, well they hardly sell that kind of jelly in this side of globe. I would change it to icecream if that's okay.

Top wants for DLC if these characters don't make the cut(I would like 6 characters seeing as MK's DLC sold well, may as well do 2 more this time):

The Red Hood (Jason Todd)
Captain Cold (Only if Freeze already isn't in the game, no need for both, but he should prob make the cut so Flash has a main villain)
Doomsday
A Batman Villain (Ivy, Scarecrow, Hush, Clayface, Riddler, Croc, Two-Face)
Power Girl
Hawkman/girl (One of the two if they don't make the cut. One of these should really be on the main roster but just in case...)

This would bring the total to 34 characters. Whereas MK had a total of 32 I believe. I think these characters would all sell well, or enough good ones to sell in a pack altogether or two seperate packs of 3.

Good to see they're working on something else and not getting straight into the next MK game - a new one would be too soon at this point, considering how long the appeal of MK9 is.

Probably won't buy it though. Never been into the whole superhero thing

Yes. Quite simply it sounds weird. What's even stranger is that WB's marketing department let NRS make a DC fighting game without DC in the title. Whatever, hopefully casuals will see Batman on the cover and then decide to buy it.

*sigh*

I'll be honest and say that as cool as it looks, at the moment, I can't help but think: "Damn, this could have been an amazing MK game".

Rendered cinematic graphics look INCREDIBLE (I just kept wishing those were the faces of Johnny, Sonya and Raiden when Wonderwoman and the others were shown). Gameplay+game graphics are obviously on the first stages because it all looks very "rough" and "unpolished" for now.

Anyway, without this one I'm not really that interested:

They missed a huge opportunity by not including her on MKvsDC. Hopefully they won't make that mistake again. It would be a huge miss.

PS: How is it that they managed to give their DC females MUCH better costumes than their own MK females? Those Wonderwoman and Harley costumes alone are better than anything they've ever given Kitana since MKDA.

I totally agree but is Poispn Ivy really the fighting type? I would love to play as her but she'd have to be IN it...not just telling vines what to do to harm people and spreading her pheromones for free hits.

Also about the costumes...I believe the costumes on WW and HQ already exist/have existed at some point, NRS just put their spin on it. While Kitana's costumes all come from scratch, provided they still could have gone with better ones like that off the shoulder number she has in the sketches. Man I really wish they would have put that costume in the final game.

Love the screenshot of joker and that confirms it, looks like a bio of him.

As for the title, NRS has tries the sub titled games and as we have seen in MK they are a reference to the story. Deadly alliance, deception, Armageddon. My bet is that it wither what someone mentioned earlier about them being tyrannical ( sorry on my iPod can't copy quote) or it could be a thing where the heroes are pissed at each other and now villains have been let loose and toying With the heroes causing them to lose their head and fight each other in public. Imagine that, we could see a divide in heroes like Marvel civil war did. They would get back together but it could splinter. Maybe flash fudged up something because he got his ass kicked by superman and batman.
