I don't know if anyone has thought of this but this picture appears to be in widescreen. So i think this could be part of the the story mode/intro movie.

I just looks like Liu just beat Scorpion and during the fight Scorpion was possessed and the picture shows Scorpion getting out of a trance and Kang explaining what happend.
