Just to clarify, I said underdog because for various reasons, (prime examples of which you'll see within this thread), being female apparently automatically hinders an MK characters chances in these polls. Also, Jade has come under heavy fire over the years. Again this is for various reasons (which have also been detailed within this thread). Just because a majority posted that they voted for her, one shouldn't assume that she'd win. There are probably many who vote who don't post within the thread.
It's commendable that Jade won her match given her opponent and the obstacles in her path. It's commendable that she and Kitana have made it this far at all. It's good to see their fans fighting back.

Back during the first tournament, IIRC, Mick said something like there were no official guidelines on how to vote, but it would be nice if people voted for a character instead of against one. He wanted some critical thinking and genuine discussion.

Ideally you'd take what a character has brought to the franchise in terms of story and playability and pick which one has done more instead of "iz h8s ninjaz."

For a personal example, I'm not a big Liu Kang fan. Never have been. But I've voted for him numerous times up until he's faced off against someone I believe to be equal or greater than him in terms of franchise contribution.

There's nothing wrong with voting against a character so the ones you like are more likely to win. That's just strategic thinking. I don't see that as a bad thing, but rather the smart thing.
