Favorite scene in first MK movie?
My favorite scene is when Liu Kang yells to Shang Tsung "Surrender it's over!" Shang Tsung runs to him in anger and Liu punches him in the stomach, then Shang Tsung yells "NEVER!" and runs to attack Liu Kang, but then Liu starts kicking the crap out of him and knocks him onto the spikes. The music totaly rocked in that scene.

Well, it depends what you mean.

If you mean fight scene, Liu Kang vs. Reptile is my favorite.

But if you mean like a part of a scene, a have a few...

1) When Cage gets up after teleporting to Scorpion's Lair, and Scorp is standing right behind him, says "Welcome", and then beats the shit out of himgrin

2) "The taste of things to come" scene, where the fighting monk sort of shows off for no reason, jumps in like an idiot - Subby just freezes him and leans to one side, letting the guy smash into the floor. The ease with which Subby won, is what I find entertaining.

3) Also, sort of similar ones - When Shang introduces Sub and Scorp, they look menacing. AND when Reptile turns into the ninja Reptile and we hear the game sound byte announce his name, then he goes on to beat the crap outta Liu (only for a bit thoughsad). That was awesome...

Yes agreed Zentile that did rock my core too. The fact that Reptile had one of the best fight scenes in the movie too boosted that magical 'Reptile' quote.
Still excites me everytime i watch it.

The part from "i smell something...bullshit" to where cage says "you guys are lucky he stopped us"

Lambert is brilliant in this scene and the fight scene is well choreographed. Also nice to see some humour involved.

My favorite scene is that whole speech Rayden gives the hero trio on the ship. I use to be able to quote it, but its been too long since my 'friend' borrowed the movie from me.

My next two favs are the two Johnny fights. Johnny vs Scorpion (still wish it was a little longer) and the Johnny vs Goro fight.

And of course the scene where the hero trio just fought a bunch of guys and were busy patting themselves on the shoulder when Rayden points out that there is a 'few' others ready to kick their butts.

I like the scene where Liu Kang fights Reptile and starts punching him down a hall way and just walks while Reptile staggers back. Also, when Liu Kang performs the bicycle kick on Reptile was an awsome factor in that fight.

I also liked when Johnny Cage performed the nut punch on Goro and as he climbed the steps said "Damn, that hurt!" The other part which I liked about that fight is when Johnny Cage said to Goro "Those were $500 sunglasses asshole".

Since this thread is so vague, my favorite scenes in movies are usually the errors which are so painfully obvious. wink

Liu, Johnny and Sonya are searching for Kitana through the corridor with spider-webs when Johnny states: "She went this way.", despite the spider-webs not being broken?

Kano versus Sonya (A terribly poor fight, mainly due to Sonya's unfightable appearance and bad acting). Kano receives a snap to the neck which causes imminent death, yet he clearly takes a final breath once it is supposedly snapped?

Shang Tsung states in several fights that it was a "Flawless Victory", even though the winner received a beating prior defeating their opponent. Liu Kang also makes this error when defeating Shang Tsung.

ACTUAL favorite scenes
Johnny Versus Scorpion. Something about this fight just rocks me off the seat. Whether it is the awesome appearance of Scorpion or the totally insane movements by both of them during the fight in the second area (The Pit? Correct me if I'm wrong), I can't get enough of it. Scorpion lands some thumping blows on Johnny, including the head stomping during the middle! I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw that. Also when Johnny first arrives there and Scorpion shouts "Welcome!", then knocks Johnny into the bones, Johnny totally digs his face into that crap! It looks even funnier because it goes quickly. Although I was disappointed with the look of Scorpion's skull at the end (skull's have raisable eyebrows?) the reminisence of Johnny's Fatality with his autographed photo was truly commendable. That's about it! wink

B7y far the kick-ass battle between Liu Kang, and Retpile. I loved the way you here his name, right befor his transforms into a ninja. Reptile had to be the best fighter in the whole movie. Him VS Liu Kang was just cool. Plus I think the setting and the music just gave you that clasic Mortal Kombat feel, and until that point in the movie, I thought the fight scenes were Ok. Scorpiosn VS Liu was decent, Scorpion VS Johnny cage was nice, but the quality of fighting did not meet my expectations, until I saw that fight scene. I watched it, and I though "This is what a Mortal Kombat movie is about, Kombat."tongue

Some of my favorate scenes just off the top of my head...

1) Liu Kang in the beginning as he is getting off the boat dropping him off at the Order of Light temple, then he walks up the stairs and you see the temple and monks as Liu Kang walks on. I love the music that went along with that scene too.

The way they ran the camera down as the monks debate on whether or not they should allow Liu Kang, the chosen one, to represent them at the tournament. Raiden's look (with the hat). Funny qoute by Liu grandfather about American life being feeble as his becuase of too much television. Also liked the Quote: "He isn't ready my lord... and we've lost so much time." - Raiden: "I know... but there is no one else."

2) Humor Scene: "You want me to carry your luggage?" - "Yeah, I pay money, you carry the bags... or is that too complicated?" - ::smiles:: "No... I got it." ::drops in ocean and walks off with money::

3) Shang Tsung's boat arrives.

4) Though Sub-Zero and Scorpion aren't my favorate characters, I have to admit their intro was indeed very cool! Audience in my theater were cheering too. Actually, they cheered at a lot of things in the film, very excited crowd opening night!

5) Suspense as the heroes are facing off against the two ninjas.

6) Raiden bursting in and throwing Sub-Zero and Scorpion out of the way with his lightening, and tells off Shang Tsung.

7) Raiden explaining the situation to the heroes on the boat.

8) "Ok, I give up. What's going on?" - "I don't know... But what if all the legends were true..." - "...What legends?" Then they show the background of the island.

9) Heroes sitting at dinner and Liu Kang looks at Kitana and Raiden as mystical music plays.

10) Shang Tsung explaining to Goro the dangers of Kung Lao's decentdent and Princess Kitana.

11) Quote: "What's so special about you?" - "I don't know..."

12) Fight against island gaurds, fighting to the MK theme by the Immortals, heroes cool fighting stances after they win, Raiden's warning to the additional guards to backoff, and the scene that follows where Raiden tells them, "Tomorrow morning, the great tournament begins. Be prepared." Then it goes directly into the tournament.

13) Liu Kang's first fight, short but sweet! Liu Kang's cartwheel kick off the staff! Also got cheers from the audience.

15) Scorpion and Johnny Cage fight. Cool moments from the fight: Johnny doing the smart thing and immediately running at Scorpion after losing the spear so he can close the distance between them before Scorpion can do any other distant attack moves. Johnny's shadow kick as he enters the portal. The intense kombat between them. Scorpion hitting his shins against a board as he was flipped back. Johnny's signed pic from his friendship move in MKII. *cheers from audience*

16) Liu Kang and Kitana fight. I like this fight because of the choreography. Robin Shou choreographed the fight to fit his character. Liu Kang, a pure hearted warrior, never hits female opponents. He only blocks and throws (he did the same in the fight against Jade in Annihilation). Both fighters using same fluid fighting style against each other. The way Kitana used the fight as a means to communicate and help Liu.

17) As soon as Sub-Zero comes down the stairs to face Liu Kang, that momentary pause before the fight begins as Liu Kang and Sub-Zero are in their fighting stances, staring each other down as fog drops from the stairs behind them... I LOVE that they paused momentarily there to capture that scene!!! It makes a great desktop pic for the computer, and would be perfect for a poster (I'd love to have both that scene and my sig pic for posters)!

The fight was short, but I thought it was cool and had an awesome finish.

18) Raiden telling the heroes the importance of overcoming their fears, and what their fears are. Favorate quote: "You can overcome any advesary. No matter how bizarr their powers may seem, there is always a way. Only one thing can defeat you... your own fears." What Raiden says can also be applied to anything in life. Very encouraging words indeed.

Also good quote, "Every man is responsible for his own destiny."

19) Liu Kang meditating on the beach.

20) Johnny Cage's resolve as he tells Shang Tsung he challenges Goro. Raiden's relief that one of them finally understands.

21) Clever way they used Johnny Cage's groin punch as a means to defeat the arrogant Shokan prince. Raiden's uncontainable happiness afterwards, and Johnny's comment about his sunglasses.

22) Quote: "I have nothing further to teach you Liu Kang. You pocess the knowledge. All that is lacking now is the will."

23) Quote: "So, this is Outworld huh? Well, I can see why they'd what a change of scenery." & "I'm surrounded by people who probably want to kick my @$$. It's like being back in highschool!"

24) Entire Liu Kang vs Reptile fight! Great music! Fight was intense, furious, and fast, showing that realistic (with exception of bicycle kick of course *audience cheers*) ground fighting can be much more exciting than the fancy wire stuff we see in a lot of action flicks today. If you have the movie on DVD, pause it as Reptile is kicked over the table and has his feet towards the screen. Wow, look, he's wearing Otomix brand shoes! Didn't know they sold those in Outworld. tongue But viewers can't see the logo since the fight is so fast, but you pause it and the bottom of his shoes, in big bold letters, say OTOMIX.

25) Kitana finally being able to help the Earthrealm fighters now that Reptile is out of the way.

26) Sonya putting her trust that her friends would come, and wisely declining Shang Tsung's challenge.

27) Kitana using her authority over the Outworld preists, and telling Shang how it's going down. And how when Shang challenges Johnny, Liu steps up and says, "NO! You'll fight me... I am Liu Kang. Decendant of Kung Lao. I challenge you to Mortal Kombat. Do you accept... or yield?" Of course, the sorcerer had no choice but to accept.

28) Entire Liu Kang Vs. Shang Tsung fight. How Liu's potential shines after he overcomes his fears, and totally dedicates himself to his purpose.

29) Liu reuniting with his brother for a moment before his soul went on to a higher place. Very emotional scene there. You know you felt it!

30) The heroes returning to the Temple on Earth, and Shao Kahn setting up for MK2 (which... yeah...).

So those were some of my favorate scenes I most remember about MK the movie that made it such a great ride for me. Oh yeah, I loved how all the chracters were introduced in the movie. I forgot to list Johnny Cage's appearance being one of them, making it look like a real fight until the last guy messed up and you see it's a movie set. MK Annihilation should have introduced all the new characters properly like the first movie instead of just throwing them in there, but then again they crammed in so many... the first MK movie had so many classic scenes, it's so easy listing favorates. I probably even forgot a few, but I haven't watched the movie in a while and these were things I remembered off the top of my head. If I had to pick an absolute favorate moment, it'd be hard. But a very memorable movie that will always be one of my favorates. smile

Thats was another cool scene. As soon as you saw them come through that door, I knew the sparks were gonna fly. They are the staple Mortal Kombat characters, the biggest fan favorites, and that noteriety is obvious in the film. They just enter, and prepare for kombat. Shang Tsung didn't even need to introduce them. If you ever played any Mortal Kombat, (save MK3) befor you saw that movie, you knew who they were. It's the best introduction of any character in the movie.

PS, soory, I mean Sub-Zero VS. Liu Kang, in my other post.tongue

It has to be that fight between johnny and scorpion. That fight seemed like it had more time put into it than every other fight combined (with the exception of Reptile vs. Liu). Then the way it ended, with that skull just blowing to pieces... I gotta love it.

An honorable mention goes to Raiden's entire dialogue. He never really had a dull moment. Lambert did a great job in this film.
