Justin Lin would make a sick Mortal Kombat movie. Hell, if he was able to bring the Fast and Furious franchise back from the grave imagine what he could do with MK.

Anyway, I was thinking about this the other day: Would you see the new Mortal Kombat movie in IMAX or 3D? A theater close to me just opened a new IMAX screen and its incredible. I really do believe its the future of spectacle filmmaking.

Not so sure about 3D though. That RealD crap is hardly noticable and is just an excuse for studios to charge inflated ticket prices.

Unfortunately it appeares as though studios are releasing films is both formats together, so if we get one we're likely to get the other. EX: Promethius, Dark Knight Rises. But I'd definately be willing to spend the extra cash to see a new Mortal Kombat in IMAX 3D.

Mortal Kombat has a ton of potential for spectaular special effects. I hope Tancharoen and his crew exploit that to its fullest. Story aside, it can still have breath-taking action and fight sequences.

A bunch of bitching fans who couldn't direct traffic if there was only one car on the road are bashing on a director who has actually done something with his life.

That's so great. Typical MK fans. Never grateful. Always expecting the world that they were never promised in the first fucking place.

He did a good job with what little money and time he had. I'd rather watch MK Legacy 10 times in a row than watch 10 seconds of Annihilation. 'Nuff said.

... You can't be serious. That's like saying you have no right to dislike Britney Spears' music because she's more successful than you are.

Annihilation at least had the so-bad-it's-good factor. Legacy was incredibly unspectacular. People have been waiting for a new MK film for well over a decade. Naturally they're going to be upset if the result is so painfully mediocre.

I can be serious. YOU can't be serious.

"I don't like this music" is not the same thing as "this person can't sing."

Not very many people have what it takes to truly tell if some one has talent or not. They don't know what the fuck to even look for. They're too busy being biased by criticizing based on their own dislikes and preferences to be REAL judges; like many of you, obviously.

It really doesn't take a genius to see when a film is lacking something.

If the movie is scheduled for a 2013 release, when exactly does filming start? Have they said yet?

Filming was SCHEDULED for next month (April 2012). Whether or it meets the schedule is another story.

I can't remember which one it was, but I only look at the following sources:

Wikipedia
MK Wikia
IMDB

So take it with a grain of salt.

The only one of those that's somewhat credible is IMDB. Wikipedia can be useful, but it's certainly not for MK. And the MK Wiki is an abomination.

I wasn't aware that you could make the dialogue in a script less boring by just throwing money at it. I was always under the apparently-mistaken impression that that stage of production was purely dependent on "talent".

You can pay a guy 200 bucks for a simple script, or 1000 bucks and demand a great script.

More time and money = more quality products. Hollywood isn't a high school writing class. Besides... Money motivates people. What are you? A communist?

Now you owe me tuition fees for teaching you something you should have already learned.

H-P- Lovecraft wrote horror short stories but he lived as a poor man during his late years of life. But he is stil remembered as the best horror writer in history, or at least one of the top 3.

So...
MONEY =/= QUALITY

Talent is not a tangible thing you can just buy, you either have it or you don't. And I doubt most of the people who have it are the sorts of folks a studio would think of for a video game adaptation. If they were, then the video game adaptations the world already has wouldn't suck so spectacularly badly.
Also, you're delusional if you think an MK film is going to get a big blockbuster budget so they can chuck huge wads of cash at reknowned-for-their-skill and thus highly-paid writers any time soon. Tancharoen is a rookie director who only got this job because nobody else seems to want it and he's made his name working with a low budget while WB is probably not looking to spend big on a video game movie, and the only writers he's using have been and will continue to be his industry buddies because friends do each other favors on the cheap.

I've seen great films made for next to nothing and I've seen shit movies made for millions of dollars.

What makes a movie goods is tied to the amount of creative freedom given to the filmmakers. Money can facilitate this but it isn't everything.

More often than not what makes a movie great is a combination of talent, and happenstance. I do believe the first Mortal Kombat movie was good on accident. They tried to recreate that with the second film but the filmmakers were too conscious of it and it blew the whole thing.

Kurtis Stryker needs a bigger part - a proper fight scene with his taser or baton!

Kevin Tancharoen put a picture of this script up on Instagram late last night. Seems to confirm the inclusion of Kabal.

http://instagram.com/p/MaSEnls6Dh/

Thoughts?

I'm glad they're including Kabal. He's one of the franchises coolest characters and my person favorite. It was a crime when he died off screen in Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

Looks from this like he'll be a main antagonist for Jax and Sonya. Perhaps he'll be working alongside his Black Dragon breathren Kano?

Imagine the scenes they could do, the fights they could choreograph with those hook swords. S'gonna get bloody.
