Yeah, the costumes in the first MK were pretty badass. I thought basically all of the costumes in MKA were pretty bad, except for Smoke. I thought his costume was pretty good.

Worst in MKA:

SCORPION!!! That one sucked the most of all the ninja costumes.

Jade and Mileena - seems they tried to make exact duplicates of Kitana's movie outfit - which didn't look anything like the games. The non-game outfit worked ok for Kitana, not for Jade and Mileena...

Sheeva - She was just crap in every aspect.

Shao Kahn - Something about his costume didn't look right, I think he needed to keep his mask on more...

Shinnok - To be fair, I don't think MK4 had come out when they filmed MKA, so they did the best they could making him into an evil god. But it would've been cool to see his MK4 look.


Best in MKA:

I thought Sub Zero looked cool w/ his mask on.

Reptile's / Raptors, they looked kinda cool

Jax's arms looked ok

Cyrax and Smoke - didn't look robotic, more like actors w/ plastic armour on, but hey, they looked like they do in MK3 and that was pretty cool.

Hahaha, I just watched MKA again. It was pretty lame, the actors sucked. The lines were cheesey and the plot sucks, but hell, its MK. I don't see what you guys are talking about how the costume suck so much, I don't find Sub/Scorpion/Ermac/Rain's costume too bad. Theyre not what I want, but I don't hate it. Lets see, Sheeva is annoying as anything. She looks really gay too. Baraka's (my fav karakter) is too big too. Shao Kahn takes off his mask too much and Sub-Zero was just plain gay without his mask on. Oh yeah, why does Scorpion ALWAYS miss when he uses his little snake/rope (they change it like every game it seems)? Cyrax and Smoke were pretty nice, I liked what they did with them. Why in the hell is Ermac so high in command, and not someone like Scorpion?

I wouldn't say that the actors sucked. It is more so, that the storyline sucked. It just seemed like there was no plot....but the actors are good. Like James Remar (Raiden) he actually is a good actor, he plays in the HBO series "The Wire" and I think he does a good job in it. Robin Shou, is another good actor, and so is Tailisa Soto (SP?) but uh, yeah. I wouldn't say that the actors really sucked, but I know it is your opinion. On the other hand, I forgot about Ermac and Rain, they also had some good costumes, and Jax's arm's look pretty cool too.

Well MKA had a much lower budget than the first so you should think about that first. Second I don't think that all the costumes were ALL bad, only a few. I think Raiden was one of the costumes that were done poorly. Although I don't think that Manjaro was done that bad or Jax.

not true. mka had a muuuch higher budget then the first but they fucked it up wit special effex annd shit that was cheesy and didnt need to be there.

for the next mk movie they should do the costumes from the mk2 game with no sleeves for each ninja.

jdumber2k is right, the budget was much higher for MKA actualy:

MK1 budget = $20M US

MKA budget = $30M US

- They wasted most of it on traveling around the world to shoot and the crap special effects. Whoever was in charge screwed up big time.

The first MK movie's looked great, and were based on the MK1 outfit's.
MKA's looked terrible and were based on UMK3/MKT's style. Let's have kick-ass ones based off MK2 (or more recent versions from MKDA/MKD) for Devastation...

Shao Kahn should of kept his mask on.

I thot Shao Kahn was the WORST thing in MKA....the actor was horrible and the costume wasn't too scary...(my opinion) A Shao Kahn is suppose to be ugly and scary with a deep voice and powerful.....I think they shud have used the Shao Kahn from the END of Mk1 the Movie....that shao kahn looked TITE!

Wow I made a simple mistake and now suddenly everyone feels they should pick my words apart, I expected better.

I thought the ninja costumes in MKA looked more expensive than the ones from the first movie. They had much more design (circles, squares, etc), they wore gloves, wrist protection, more design and more 'metal stuff' on the masks ). They didn't look cheaper, they just looked like Power Ranger armour. Lame is the word you're all looking for.

Yeah, I loved the first movie's masks. I thought the jaw mask for Reptile was really intelligent, and while Sub-Zero's mask looked like it was frozen in some shots, Scorpion's reminded me of a skull for some reason. I thought they were all really great and simple, like they should be.

in the next MK movie, they need to make the costumes look more like a part of the characters...for example, mileena's outfit looked so fake, truely as if the actrice put on a costume, and not as if she wears that outfit all the time...and it should be that way, for mileena is always wearing the same outfit...it didnt look real...you could see that sheeva was a human, when she's supposed to be a shokan...films can do much better these days....and shao kahn looked so dull...not enough muscles and the actor was so ugly ...anyway, they need to fix that in the next MK...pay more attention to the costumes, because thats a huge part of the whole MK thing...people have to recognize a character within a second...and not like kitana who wore a strange not-kitana-like outfit....cant explain it better

Actually, if you watched the Sektor/Cyrax commentary on the DVD, tehy did state that the armor was a modified version of a motorcross armor.

To me it wasn't that the costumes we're bad, but just the way they were presented in MK:A was cheesy, because in the first movie the costumes seemed ancient and you could actually believe that the people wearing them had been ancient. In MK:A the costumes were all colorful, they looked like new costumes for the Power Rangers. Mortal Kombat is a dark, ancient, and bloody tournament and in the first movie the costumes and special FX reflected that. So I think the costumes should be pretty much the same as the first movie.

sheeva looked ok..you can't realy mess up liu's outfit that much..subbie looked great, nightwolf 's was nice.

How did Subby look great? He had a huge chunk of metal on his face, his hood just didn't look like a ninjas because of the way it went around the eyes, he wore chunks of blue plastic glued to black gloves as wrist pads.... I thought his costume sucked.

As much as I would like the costumes from the game it would look cheesy as well. Guys wearing their spandex (Jax, Sub Zero, etc) Kitana and Mileena in basically swimsuits and Sonya in a bright green aerobics outfit, looks nice for the game but It would be kinda cheesy in the movie. Street Fighter tried to make their costumes like the game but looked lame.
