More MK Devastation news; MK4 in the talks.
3:00 PM MST - Shinnokxz

More news to feast on, Kombatants. Russell Mulcahy, director of MK: Devastation, has said to be signed on for a fourth MK film. Reportedly, Threshold is aiming to completely FORGET Mortal Kombat: Annihilation due to poor attitude surrounding it, and instead sort of have MK: Devastation be bet the sequel to the first MK movie. Not only that, but a fourth one is supposed play off MK:D.

Confused? Heh. Think as it this way: First comes Mortal Kombat (the first movie), Mortal Kombat: Devastation, then Mortal Kombat: Warzone (working title). The existance of a fourth MK movie will probably be up to how well MK3 does.

Don't forget that filming will start late October to early November in Australia and China!

Forgetting about MKA is the right thing to do. If their saying MK Devastation will continue after the first and not the second... Well than maybe MKA was a just a false dream.

How can I be so sure this movie will begin filming this year? Like why hasn't a script or a cast list been reported as of right now.

I agree MKA should be ignored story wise or we wpould run out of characters!!! I'd like to think of MKA as the MKT of the mvies... not really canon to the story ut it's there to show off characters...

Russell Mulcahy? Hmm... well, the last great film he made was the original Highlander back in '86. And then he made "Highlander 2"... Dear God... but at least he was aware "Highlander 2 was a shit movie, even though it was his. So maybe he's pulling the same thing with the MK series that happened with the Highlander series... forget the second film ever happened grin Overall, Mulcahy isn't too bad, and would probably be the best person they can get to do these films. Also, his films are known for being violent, and with the success of the r-rated "Resident Evil" films... well, I guess you know where I'm headed with this wink

Let's just say my source is someone extremely close to the production of the project. Sorry, I can't really name names or otherwise I would in my news post, but its for their protection. If I said their name, they could lose their job and I could lose my main source for information.
Believe me guys, if I had any doubt that this news is fake, then I would not post it. I started the UMK3 to be a reliable source for news about the movie--I'm not low enough to start yanking everyone's chains this far in the game, I'm looking forward to the movie too much to be doing something silly like that.
I hope you guys understand.

Well, I for one completely believe Shinnokxz. I really don't think he could ever post bullshit, even though I don't really know him that well.

And this is great news. I don't think Russel Mulcahy would even think of talking about an MK4 if he didn't have faith in Devastation. And I'm really glad we're getting a remake of MKA. It's like, we're getting the real deal this time: Lambert back, Ashby back, Shou back, a REAL director... I guess Wilson should play Sonya again, though.

I doubt it will be a remake. It will most likely take place after the first one and then spin its own storyline and disregard MKA altogether.

Also, the Shou thing is still up in the air. I keep on getting confirmations of him being back, then retractions, etc. etc. and as it stands he still doesn't know. I added it as a note in the last update to the site that we still don't know about Robin.

As far as I know, it's unlikely he will return due to his new movie he's producing ("Dead Mule Suitcase"). I guess we'll see.

BTW, keep in mind that MK4 is probably only going to be a go if MK3 is successful, like the update says. My source was talking to Mulcahy and said that he mentioned he signed for a two picture deal and that there were plans to do a continuation.

Yeah but I think it would make people feel alot better if they saw something offically said from threshold and so on,cause without that you cant really prove otherwise and would rather have people believe its a rumor right now until someone saids something offically or something is posted offically.

Just because something isn't announced officially, doesn't make it a rumor. When I began to get respones from the actors of the movies, then I was pretty convinced that the news I was receiving was better than anything 'official' from Threshold (who makes public announcement and site updates every three years or so). All I am saying is that the term 'rumor' is used usually with cynicism and I believe that should not be the case here.

So your saying that a billion dollar movie company and highly paid actors or gonna waste their time emailing some kid between 16-19 years old.Yeah right. And everything is a rumor if its not offically annouced.Anyone can make a website about anything and say they have been getting emails from such and such. But people like actors of movies and producers are not going to waste their time with you.So I dont believe this cause news like this has been posted before about the movie starting to film last year, the year before that and the year before that.So news like this isnt new and since everyone has heard about news like this before,I think they should take it has a rumor since the movie was supposed to have been made way before now or whatever.

Listen, your attitude is simply unwaranted. No one is forcing you to believe this. Take it as a rumor, I don't care. I have something called RESPECT here in the MK community and I have had it for years, and if you've been around here long enough then you would realize I'm a little too smart to just throw it away by making a page full of bull information just to yank everybody's chains. Do you think a huge MK source such as MKO would give free bandwidth and space to a site that is just full of sketchy rumors that is ran by someone who is 16-19?

And I take your comment about actors and Threshold talking to me in offense; I've had to do a lot to get the kind of sources that I do. But I won't let it frustrate me, as 99.9% of the community respects what I do. I'm not going to let someone named 'sonicherosfan1' frustrate me.

I was simply pointing out the illogics in calling it a rumor. It's going to be tough for you, though, finding some REAL STURDY OFFICIAL news considering the majority MK sites get all their MK movie news from my site.

And you know what? You're right about the delays of the movie being filmed. But keep in mind, I'll report the good news or the bad. But you know why the delay it? Because they can.

They're not spouting 'official' announcements and release dates left and right, so the movie is kept rather mysterious so they can start filming when they damn well please. When there are no dates set or there isn't a big uproar about it, they can delay filming all they want. This increases the chances of insuring quality.

Alternatively, they can announce a bunch of cock-eyed dates--forcing themselves under deadlines and into corners, a la MK: Annihilation. In this kind of situation, the chances of the movie flopping increases greatly.

Excellent news Shinnokxz, I have heard this many times before, but I trust you and this site. It will get a little confusing when posting shorthand though - two MKD's (Deception and Devastation). I don't think Bridget Wilson should return as Sonya until she's had a few years martial arts experience - she can't fight! She was a good actor though, if they combine her with the fighting skills of the Sonya from *the movie that we will not speak of* she would kick ass.

Alright buddy, I think I've had some issues with you before and now I remember why.

Tell me when the hell did Shinnokxz say that it was the actors and producers who sent the info to him? I personally dont believe that's so, since he never said anything like that.

Nobody, NOBODY is forcing you to believe. If you don't want to believe any of this, then don't, and wait till the movie comes out so you can either rub it in our faces, or crawl back to your bed like your type of people always do.

Well, I myself would rather have Sandra Hess, plus acting lessons, but I don't think it would feel right again.

wooo easy there little kid.

You got some serious issues.

and for the other person,he did say that he had actors and producers emailing him.Read his post more carefully. As for Shin dude its only a website man.And I know nobody is forcing me to believe whatever or do whatever. But I do have a rigth to question what you say until I see offical proofe. But buddy take it easy its only mortal kombat a game,a movie or whatever.Just let it go.But if you cant take people question somethings you might or may never say on here, then dont post anything.Thats just life. Its the internet dude its not always gonna be your way.
P.S If you have further problems online then dont get online but lets be more mature about this and if you have any problems with me personally or on whatever level pm me and will discuss it there. But if you get offended about stuff on a website that will probably never changed your life and if it does then thats sad but seriously alot of things online will offend some people but you know what, thats just life and thats just the internet for ya.I wasnt tring to offend you though. And maybe next time you will be mature enough to pm me first before something like this goes any further.

Excuse me? The only thing I can see in your rant of spaceless, redundant sentence work (that, by the way, has zero relevancy to the subject at hand) was you trying to pin a supposed flame war on me while you tried to act a like a victim. What the hell? Like you, I was simply standing on my view and countering what you had to say. It is an public forum, after all-- 'that's the internet for ya'.

I believe the part where you made some snide remarks on my age was where the discussion got hairy. After that, your baseless assumptions on how I handle my site and questions regarding the site remained as shallow as a kiddy pool, removing all doubt in my mind of your inexperience in netiquette.

When I first started my site, I simply looked at it as a condensed source for all rumors/information on MK3. Since then, my views have changed considerably. Why? Whether you believe it or not, my connections with the production team AND actors HAVE picked up, and my site has since turned from a rumor/info archive to a full-on news source. I've had to do some work to get this far, and I'm proud to say so. Whether you understand or not, I have my right to get defensive if somebody comes along and accuses my site of being a rumor mill and nothing but.

Agreed. 2 of the biggest MK sites, MK5.Org and MK Revolution, use the UMK3 site as there source for solid info on MK3. That should definately say somthing.

So. Mortal Kombat Annihilation never existed? I like the sound of that! I hope this movie is not rushed and the actors and production team have their fun and take their time with this one. To the user who posted this thread, is the director and screen writer actually fans of Mortal Kombat? If not then they will only see this whole project as a business oppurtunity and this next Mortal Kombat movie will be *Bleh*. Well I believe you because of what your argued about before. Great site might I add, keep up the good work.
