But the clip with Kira doesn't even look like her in my own opinion..no actually not just opinion but FACT!

And i know its look budget and so on but it didnt even feel like MK whatsoever.
The way the cameras moved made it feel to much like a music video and I disliked it.Its always nice to see someone try to make a fan made movie but this looks horrible and yea i am one of those guys thats hard to please with this kinda stuff.But kira omg my favorite lady in MK and totally screwed up in that clip atleast.

And KS omg if you didn't know that was supposed to be him no one would ever guessed it.I am sorry but it looks bad....really bad. Also much as I think Katarina Morhacova is beautiful Kira just doesn't look like at all in that clip.

My only issue is that you critique, but it does not feel very constructive. Do you have any tips on what you think Kira should look like? Why do you feel the movie is "music video-ish" or do you just prefer the slower paced 1995/1997 filmmaking style of the first two films? At which part in the 40 second clip did the camera move that did not sit well with you?

Our ultimate goal in making this first off is to have fun. However I certainly dont mind critique or how else will I learn? It's just that it doesn't really help in the long run when people point out problems, yet don't give any solutions, advice, or suggestions to go with them.

Let me share some light on the production though....

Honestly it is shot very "Music Video Style". Why? Because I just dont have money or experience for that matter. This means I have to come up with different ways to make the film look interesting. You can't really grab the same MK feeling from the first two movies when you are filming in your backyard or at a public park. I had to modernize the look a lil bit to fit what was available to me. Don't get me wrong, me and my friends are trying our best, but we arent some hot shot big time producers. I'm just a regular guy with a $400 dollar camera doing his thing. Luckily some people let me use their local businesses and shoot on their property for free or else I would be filming in my living room or deserted parking lots.

Yea i know I didn't exactly say what I thought you could do better cause I was sorta in a rush and just wanted to point out what i just didn't like at the moment.But I am going to rewatch it about another 20times before I can say anything else.

I actually watched the clip about 5 times before posting on here.I wish you the best of luck. Well i did go rewatch it this time with sound and it was kinda cheesy hearing the voice from the game saying names during the clip...that and hearing FIGHT!! But heres something you never ever wanna do in making a movie thats based on anything.Never put a character in that you can not represent.Take what i am assuming is your Havic.I am kinda wondering why you just didn't use Kobra instead.Also I am hoping to god you don't use footage from the games in the films cause thats a bad idea,just look at the first house of the dead movie. Hell copy how they did the first movie and then if you need help with any CGI work or anything let me know cause my friend Shawn and I are still working on our KI movie and he gets alot of the work none at universal.

Your criticism is hardly going beyond ''hey this is TOTALLY wrong and totally sucks because it's a FACT'' and ''you want advice on how to improve? Never put game footage in the movie... even though you haven't done it yet." Yeah, great advice on how to get better, guy.

This thing looks fantastic, obviously it's not going to look like a Hollywood production. It already looks better than FOMA, and I enjoy the names being announced during the clip, it's a kick back to Reptile's appearance in the first movie which will always be one of my fondest MK memories.
''FIGHT'' however, I don't agree with. And I do think Havik is done completely wrong, not just in terms of make up and characterization but script. I certainly never imagined Havik speaking even remotely like a normal person.
I guess it would be pretty hard to make his head look like the game's (the costume is spot on though), but his voice should be digitally altered somehow. You should consider that for the final version of the movie.
Noob Saibot and Scorpion look awesome, I love the design of Scorpion's mask. Lose the zipper on Saibot's outfit though.

Kira however is fantastic. I think it looks just like her- not the costume, of course, but I wouldn't want that either. The original outfit is very cool and fitting, and her attitude is great, the actress is doing a very good job.

Umm looks like I can never explain myself right on this board for you guys to understand me.Nevertheless I think its great someone is doing something like this for MK but the fact remains it could be better and if you think that then it should be better.Kira IMO just isn't right for my taste and Havik like he said is completely wrong and I didn't see his custom very well so I can not comment on that.

Does it look watchable,sure.But so do alot of things.
You don't have to have alot of money to make something special and you can do more then someone thinks with very little.I think when someone has very little money they are prone to get things right down to the last detail cause they can not afford to mess up.Take the short movie Batman:Dead End.Now that was something great and even though it was short it was really awesome to watch and that was the first time I seen a predator battle an alien.


I also judge how I didn't like the camera movement and felt it was too music video like and that just isn't mortal kombat at all.Sure there is a few interesting things you did with you camera but I think you should pull back more during the fight scene cause the angles you are choosing are not fitting to good.

Anyone else want to comment about stryker??Cause again terrible design and I know this isn't supposed to be exact of the video game but still that was probably my least favorite thing i saw on those clips.

I think its very important for him to good back and say,"maybe if i reshoot it from another angle it might be better."Reshoot alot of things and take the best out of everything and use that.Don't just say,"Hey we got it lets go."Take 20 retakes on one scene cause 1 time isn't enough.And one last thing before I go,I think kira looks way to much like Rayne from the Bloodrayne video games and not the movie.And I am talking about Kira in his movie and not Kira from the game.

Another and I think this is really important thing for the guy making this.I know there are alot of cool tricks you can do with a camera but you don't want to use everything a camera can do cause it makes you look desperate in trying to figure out what to do or how a scene should look.You want to have you own style and it very important to get that down on the very first frames of the opening scene.

And the name calling that was used from the video game I think you should loose them and heres why.

We should know before they fight who they are and we should need the voice from the game to tell us this.It make it look cheesy and laughable.
Sure its funny just cause but trust me you don't want this in there.
The only reason it was used in the first MK movie was a laugh but that was the only time they used it.Could you really go watch the first movie and everytime they fight you hear,"FIGHT" SUBZERO,RAYDEN,Liu Kang WINS,that would have been bad.

i like this movie and i follow it since the roject begun.

Stryker doesn't looks great,but he didn't suck either.

i don't like his sunglasses and,btw,even tough the actor is older than the original Stryker seems still too young.
stryker should be a 50 years old police officer,not a 38 aged guy(more or less 38 years...),and maybe he should be a high ranked agent,instead of a street cop.
His UZI however is sensed and fantastic.i also like his attire,but i'd prefer to see his nightstick.

Kira it's just perfect,even tough the actress seems a bit....(oh my God,i hope she'll never read) fat.
Not too fat,but just a bit, especially her legs.
maybe this effect is caused by her tights.

i don't like Havik,i don't see any resemance with the original one but,hey,this is a low budget production,make up effects are hard to do.
i hope his connection with black dragon is sensed.

scorpion's mask is too big for actor's face,but again looks great the same.

Well like I said, I wish it was a bit closer to the game with the story to be honest. And Kira does look like a homeless transgendered teen,lol. Ok, but I can't wait for the flick.

This looks absolutely fantastic! I'm just now noticing this thread months after the fact and most of the video links don't work anymore, but I did just happen to catch that Stryker/Kira fight, and man, is that awesome!

That clip was awesome! The acting, specifically that from Kira, is just ace. Reminds me of Femke Jenssen (sp?) from Goldeneye. Very impressive. The clip had me craving more, which is what a good clip should do. Now let's see all of it :D

I have to say I absolutely agree. AWESOME. Kira's acting was fantastic, and someway somehow you actually made me like Stryker a lot. That's impressive to say the least, since I've always absolutely hated the character. Great job, brother.
And anyone who doesn't think Kira's hot, you need to look down to see if your balls are still there because I have a feeling they might've fallen out.


As for the posters, they look awesome too, even though I don't think the phrases are written properly... but oh well they're still pretty sweet!

I've seen you around on myspace through several MK fan buddies of mine. I would like to say that I envy and think its great that you have access to all that movie producing gear to make your MK fan movie.

However, and please take this as honest critique and not a fan basher's opinion, I am very VERY dissapointed that you strayed a little too far from the core of what the MK world really is.
I'm not really happy with the storyline nor the characters you've selected to play the main parts of this film. (the actors look and sound fine)

Personally, I really believe, though of course I could be wrong, that this project of yours will be recieved harshly outside by hardcore MK fans upon debut and may even tarnish or slow you down in your future endeavors if it really bombs badly. You'll be remembered as that one guy who made a really bad MK movie by kid fans (theyre brutal and wont care what your excuses were).

Speaking of which, your excuses seems to rely on budgetary reasons. I very much understand that because rental of equipement to film isnt cheap. But let me say that even with a limited budget, you could have gone the better route and produced something more Shaolinish or ancient without worrying about budget.

I will give you a list of ideas to shed some light on what I mean here.

First off... your choice of location. Using the city and government= big turn off. It doesnt feel MK at all. Instead, since you picked a real location in the city with cars passing by or a local park, it ends up looking like a couple of coke head lunatics settling their issues.

There are many dojos throughout that would've allowed you to use their training grounds, etc through legal agreement and schedule. I dont know what part of the US are you from, but perhaps looking for a location that resembles that one part in Kill Bill 2 where the bride gets trained. That would totally have rocked.

I mean, I know it sounds like a lot, but it really isnt bro. And its cheap too. Perhaps even free. All it would take is determination to travel.
Some flashlights or power lights with colored cellophane to add atmoshere, a little dry ice to give that smokey eerie feel, etc tec.

All cheap but admittedly time consuming. But in my opinion, well worth it. :)

Second, the cast of characters. You decided to use characters that i'm willing to bet, a huge population of casual and non casual fans wont care for.
It seems you will have Noob and Scorpion in there, but due to the setting and story line, Im actually afraid to know of their importance in your production.

You shouldn't have leaped so many years ahead man. You should have made the choice to work on a film that occurs "right after" MK:Annihilation instead. Using characters like Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub Zero, Quan Chi, Baraka, Kitana, Mileena, SHao Kahn, and of course, Raiden. These are characters people know and love by heart. Hell, even my mom knows Scorpion and Sub Zero.

These could be worked into cheaply as well. Especially if youre the one making the costumes. Hell, you can bring some real hardcore MK cosplaying fans into game to help out with those possibly for free.
If I had the time and money to travel wherever you are at, Id totally want to be part of costume production.

So, I dont know dude. Just be very careful. Even though its your own fan created movie, Mortal Kombat is inbedded in the hearts of many fans. If youre planning to put this out expecting good feedback, you may want to rework some ideas before going live. Because so far, it just doesnt sit well atleast with me and Im sorry to say that.

PS. Havik will get ripped for not having a gross decaying face. Realism isnt always good in some areas.
Kira looks like her. Stryker looks like him. Havik is your main issue. Go out and buy cheap latex putty and make him look like the Havik we all know.

Save your money. It would be worth it.

He's just trying to let this guy know he will get alot of bad feedback, this may be the biggest failuer since MKA. I don't mind aq few scenes being in the city ect, because hey, MK3 took place on earth and in cities ect, but I agree, he could've traveled to some forests, some dojos,lakes ect.

As for Havik, he could of went to ANY halloween store and brought some latex or somethin to make Havik look like Havik.

I'm still giving you props for making your own movie and to be honest, it looks like your film will be amongst the best looking fan produced film (ive seen so many and the only one i liked was the big boned sub zero vs the hefty scorpion fight on youtube)

Someday, if I make enough money, I would like to direct my own MK fan movie, or episodes similar to that of MK conquest.

I do however appreciate the feedback, BUT THEN AGAIN YOU HAVE ONLY SEEN 2 SCENES AND SOME PICTURES! Everything a lot of people have mentioned they have a problem with IS ACTUALLY IN THE FILM. But I guess you wouldnt know that we have a dojo, and that Haviks face becomes demonic in the film because your too impatient to see how the production progresses.

I'm sure TWO scenes that take place in the city that establish the fact that Stryker is a COP from NEW YORK is just a huge disgrace to MK (Roll eyes).

As far as Bo'Rai Cho it simply comes down to this... I have yet to have a single ASIAN male show up to an audition. I have posted notices, but the simple fact is that everyone is working on this production for FREE because I am just a 21 year old kid with a camera. Check out the FACTS and STATISTICS of real Hollywood productions and you will see that there is a shortage of asian actors attending casting calls. I'm an African American male and in my experience I know exactly how it feels to see racial miscasting in the entertainment industry. Trust me, I want the character to be Asian just as much as you do. For the most part we have come up with two problems during casting of ANY character. They look the part and can't act, or they can act, but don't look the part. My crew consists of THREE PEOPLE. Myself, a person holding mic, and sometimes I have a second camera operator. I'm teaching myself how to edit, how to use lights, write scripts, and choreograph fights without any former training. No one here is trying to become famous, we just want to learn and have fun.

Not to mention Kira was just in a car accident and we have no idea if she is going to be ok. She had a head injury and has not waken up yet and its been 4 days. We have stopped production and are waiting to see what happens. Her safety comes first before any MK film as far as we are concerned.

Hey Effrem, I heard about the accident. And I'm really sorry to hear it.
I also don't mean to be impatient nor negative about your production however, my opinion still stands.
You may have a lot of great things planned but you didnt really address those things with us. You simply tossed out images and unfinished raw clips. You must accept the consequences of that. It happens to every movie that leaks out prior to release.
So far, from what Ive seen, it doesnt look promising, but, I will go based on what you just said and wait.

I know youre young. But if youre going to do something, and I say this to anyone, do it right. Go all the way with it. Show how much you love Mortal Kombat. And most importantly, show the fanbase some respect through your production. Though it is your movie. Its not your franchise. Its the world's. The reason people pull and tug at you, isnt to piss you off.
Youre on the brink of your professional dreams. Whatever that may be.
