I'm not sure why people think anyone's getting replaced. Fan reception is exceptionally well-received to these posters, even on this site, so I believe when people watch this movie - especially the haters - they will have more respect, understanding, and admiration for this film. It's backed by James Wan, it's not going to fail. People can't grasp this idea. He has at least another movie, Malignant, to be released and that's before the Aquaman 2 release, not to mention at least another Conjuring movie.

even though johnny not we going to get tease for a possible sequel cole is not replacing johnny and noonr getting repaced

Someone IS literally getting replaced. Johnny Cage is the outsider protagonist on the MK timeline. He's out of the movie. Instead, a new character is in. That's a form of replacement. I don't know how else to explain it to you.

Saying that a movie being backed by James Wan means it won't fail is pretty ridiculous. I LOVE James Wan. Great director. Not sure about producer, he produced The Nun. Nobody is perfect and no producer can guarantee the success of any film.

In fact, considering how awful the promotion has been for this movie, it's fair to say that at least someone high up doesn't have much faith in it. Come to think of it, Ed Boon is acting like this movie doesn't exist. And guess who also has done virtually nothing to promote this movie online? You guessed it, James Wan.

Lastly, why are you going on about the other movies he's going to release this year..? Sorry but I have no idea how that fits into anything that's being said here. Because James Wan is working on more movies this year, Mortal Kombat is going to be good?

You've been pretty hypocritical about this movie, calling people who don't have their hopes up haters. You're just as blind to it but on the opposite spectrum, talking about how this movie is guaranteed to be successful and how everyone will have respect and admiration for it. You're pretending that Johnny Cage isn't a key character in the MK universe. You're pretending that MK needed a new protagonist to have a viable story. You're acting like it's normal for studios to do nothing to promote their movie until it's 2 months away from release.

These posters look dope, but my expectations remain extremely low.

johnny isnt getting replace in this universe he just wont be in this movie.

this movie is cole story andthat why sub zero is main bad guy

Johnny Cage hasn't been replaced. He just isn't in THIS movie. Kinda hard to explain without blatantly spoiling the movie, but Johnny exists in this movie universe and will appear as a character in the sequel (if it gets the green light from the studio).

god someting i hate this fandom it so toxic when it really shouldnt be like i going to support this movie and hope this franchise and hope it sarts a universe then maybe they can john tobias on board as a consult or co writer on board maybe even bring john vogel

Oooooh, did I find the elusive Tetra-Vega post without the Ka-Tra sign-off?

In all seriousness, I think the marketing has been bad, but it hasn't been the only movie like this. Especially with WB; the King Kong vs Godzilla official trailer also released just about two months before the launch. It's a different environment right now, and I don't really understand all the reasons for this. I don't think it's an indicator that the movie is automatically gonna be bad.

Regarding the replacements, it is objectively untrue that Cole Young is a replacement for Johnny Cage. It is confirmed that Johnny Cage exists in this version of the MK universe and will be in the sequels if they get green lit.

I sort of kind of think I see where some of the argument comes from regarding his role being replaced by Cole Young's. If you replace MMA fighter with struggling martial arts actor, replace the name "Cole Young" with "Johnny Cage", could the character still work? If so, then I can see the point; why could this not just be Johnny Cage? Why is this character who was never part of the MK Universe in any of the 11 games necessary when that space could have been used for Johnny Cage or another MK Character? Now, to actually get the answer, we'll need to know all about how this movie plays out. Maybe Cole does end up being another character in the MK universe. Maybe they are doing something so different with him that an established MK character would not fit the role. Maybe Johnny Cage could have fit the role, but they wanted more Asian representation so they added this character instead. We really need to see the movie before we can make such assumptions, but either way, Johnny Cage is still around in this MK Universe.

Biggest complaint is it's not the "Enter the Dragon" lore... what they think as just fighters traveling on a junk boat to a mystical island hosting a martial arts tournament.

There was actually a plot to Enter the Dragon about the main character. Let's see if the haters use Google to find it... or just watch it on Netflix.

Haters gonna hate while creators create.

I'm not confused/complaining. I was only asking/speculating in the other thread based on what others were posting.

Name 1 movie adaptation of ANYTHING that's 100% accurate to the source material.

It's so strange they can never do that with MK1? It's the simplest story in the franchise.
