...she looks like a throwaway NPC soldier and i`m utterly dissapointed!

You can easily test the substance of this opinion by comparing her design to any of the actual NPC soldiers. If you can't see the difference, then you're deliberately generalizing the designs in your own head to solidify what you already want to think.

By that same logic, Sub-Zero looks like a throwaway NPC ninja because he also wears a ninja suit. Details be damned.

To be fair, MK11 NPCs are actually looking pretty dope this time around. Have you guys seen that shot from the Story trailer, where Shao Kahn's surrounded by a bunch of non-playable characters? The Tarkatans in that shot look great, they're not just watered-down Baraka clones. Then there are a number of Osh-Tekk people, with that Mesoamerican style, and they all look fantastic. They're all individuals, too, all with their own unique design. Not sure why they're apparently siding with Shao Kahn, instead of Kotal Kahn.

Then there's a number of guys who look kinda barbaric, and I think these are true Outworlders. They all have a basic design similar to Shao Kahn's: wearing skulls and stuff, but again; all unique and original. Those NPCs look amazing, especially when comparing them to henchmen NPCs of previous games. Earthrealm SF NPCs do look more alike, but that's because they all wear the same military gear. Jacqui has a somewhat different look, but at the same time, her entire appearance looks bland, especially when compared to some of Shao Kahn's henchmen. That Osh-Tekk chick with the painted skull-face looks way more interesting to me than Jacqui does. I honestly think Jacqui looks boring, but perhaps she has some costumes that are more appealing to me.

Does anyone know how many costumes these characters have in-game? They've been showing three, but I think I saw a clip where someone unlocked a fourth costume for Skarlet. There might be (many) more than just the three they're showing us so far.

Jaqui definitely has her fans, as she should. I think she was always going to have an uphill battle with a substantial portion of the forum crowd because she’s the 4th of five special forces characters in MK11, just as she was in MKX.

Plus, to many, she didn’t have much in terms of gameplay that really separated her and gave her an identity that fans could latch on to, but hopefully NRS realized that and are looking to improve her (to some) and redeem her (to others).

I honestly liked her character a lot in MKX from a story standpoint. I’m not sure why she gets so much hate there. Sure, she was someone’s friend, but so is Smoke, Jade, Kung Lao, etc. Mind you, I’m talking about story alone here, not their gameplay.

Maybe gameplay redeems those three, but people bashing her for story reasons seem to forget the story aspects of other characters, or just willingly disregard them.

I also liked Jaqui’s relationship moments with her dad in the story as well as her budding relationship with Takeda. To me, all that, plus her friendship with Cassie, made her a nice glue character in the story. She wasn’t as cocky or as sassy as the other kids, and overall she seemed like she had a lot going for her, story-wise, so I don’t really get the hate there.

Anyways, as far as her look and her gameplay, it’s worth noting that multiple NRS employees I follow on Twitter have been really high on Jaqui.

Daanish Syed: “wait until you see her other skins. Possibly the best skins in the GAME.”

Grey Meta: “She’s a real bad ass this time around.”

Obviously, they’re not going to say “yeah she’s back and she sucks.” But all I’m saying is maybe give her a chance and see what she has this time around before deciding she’s a travesty or whatever based on one picture.

I like her new look. I don’t love it, but it’s an improvement (to me). I’d still rather see Sareena, Fujin, Reiko, Kai, Mavado, Li Mei, Nitara etc, but that’s just me. We all have our favorites and our unsung characters we think deserve another chance, but NRS likes this character and many fans do to, so she’s here.

First impressions are important, but they’re not everything. Hopefully she’ll have some fun stuff and cool looks and if she’s still not your cup of tea, no problem. It’s impossible for them to please all of us.

I don’t think she’s a bad character, but for a game playing with timeframes where we could have anyone so give other characters like Reiko and Sareena a fresh time to shine we get Another generic military shooter.

I don't get NRS. I'm sure they realize most players would be happy to see Fujin, Rain, Sareena, Reiko, Havik back. But instead they give us Jacqui again, that is insane.

I think most players don't know who those characters are, or give a crap about them at the end of the day.

That's because most of them haven't been seen in over a decade. What do you expect? Why would someone who just jumped back into MK after MK9 give a shit about Sareena, or Fujin, or Nitara? THEY DON'T KNOW THOSE CHARACTERS. You're not saying anything ground breaking. Haha.

It's called "re-introduction", many characters have received one over the years- they come back with a re-design, brand new moves, and relevancy for a new generation- then those same casual fans who you say don't care- will because they actually have been properly introduced to these characters. I can't tell you how many friends I have who had no idea who the fuck Bo'Rai Cho was and after his re-introduction as DLC- Completely fell in love with him, hell he's my nephew's main in MKX. That's kind of the whole point of wanting them back, so their popularity CAN BE BOOSTED.

Duh.

Yeah, every point you just made was covered under the, "They also don't know who Kenshi is either" portion of my last post. Kenshi hasn't missed a game since he was introduced (MK vs DC not withstanding), and he hasn't taken root with them any more than any other 3D character has.

It's not that they jumped back into the franchise at MK9, in fact having me in their circle, I probably made them play every single game between Trilogy & now... it's just that as people who aren't as invested as a "big fan" might be, they don't CARE about the newer characters, and thus the newer characters don't take hold in their mind. 4 years between games and they forget anyone that isn't a personal favorite by the time the next game arrives (As with my sister and Frost). 4 years between games and anyone who wasn't a part of a casual fan's childhood nostalgia isn't taking root in their general perception of Mortal Kombat now.

But again, I'm in favor of bringing them back. Because I'm a fan. And I like the 3D era.

But the other 4 out of 5 people in my primary gaming circle could give a shit. I'm sure the same is true of many casual fan samplings. Which is why NRS leans on old favorites. Because they're looking to sell the game to five people, not one. I'm aware continued exposure might build a bigger fanbase for them. I'm aware these aren't groundbreaking concepts. But the post I was responding to posited the idea that most players would be happy to see these characters. Most players wouldn't. Most players couldn't care less if these characters return, but you'd better believe they'd notice if Scorpion was missing. Most players are content with the MK1-MK3 roster. And yes, that sucks for fans who want these characters. But that's business.

I am confounded why the NPCs in story mode were given detail worthy of a playable character on the main roster, yet Cassie and Jacqui were designed with a minimalist Fortnite aesthetic. Maybe that was the master plan -- throw in some generic Fortnite characters to lure some teens to try Mortal Kombat 11. Or, maybe they just ran out of ideas for the 2nd and 3rd female Special Forces soldier... Zzzz... I almost fell asleep typing that. We could have a Netherrealm demon (Ashrah), we could have a vampire (Nitara), we could have the Queen of Edenia (Sindel), and so on, but we got 2 more Special Forces soldiers. Yawn. I am eager to see The Kollector in action, a new character with actual design effort. I suppose I've griped enough about Sassy Cage and Jeneric Briggs. Every MK has its disposable roster filler, so I will focus on the characters I do like. Only hope remaining for the filler characters is they have better unlockable attire. For now, let us appreciate the design of these NPCs, which is exceptional for background characters.

He truly does. I am rooting for him to win MK11. They have tried other boss characters, but none come close to the real threat, and intimidating presence, of Shao Kahn. He is iconic and his current design is a home run. Hope his gameplay is equally impressive.

I think Onaga came close to the real threat and intimidating presence of Shao Kahn.

Kahn used to work for him. Hell, Kahn FEARED him, which is why he had to off Onaga with backstabbing and poison, rather than direct confrontation.

I think Shujinko being tied heavily to his character drags down Onaga. I think Onaga in and of himself is a decent character. Which is why I'd be fine with him returning as a boss someday, in the modern MK landscape (but I think NRS is mostly trying to avoid ties to the PS2 games this day in age, so who knows if that will ever happen.)

Shinnok & Blaze I'm lukewarm about. Jury is still out on Kronika. Shang Tsung & Quan Chi just feel like regular characters at this point, while they've both been final bosses, they don't have an ounce of boss mystique anymore.

Because she killed their precious Mileena.

D'Vorah was hands down the best new character MK has seen in a long time, Erron Black included.

Most fans refuse to truly accept anyone post 1995, sadly.

I for one love D'Vorah, I've said numerous times in the past month on this very site she was easily the most intriguing and unique new character introduced in MKX. I could honestly give a shit that she killed Mileena. Death isn't really a problem that most people familiar with this franchise tend to sweat.

I like her. She was not one of my mains in MKX, but she has design, and I enjoyed 2 of her 3 play styles. Only thing that "bugged" me was her voice, which was too "bratty teen" for my tastes. I would have gone with a more creepy, insect inspired voice. She looks like something out of a sci-fi horror movie (which is good), but she sounds like a cartoon character for tween girls. *shrug* I dunno. Otherwise, no hate from me for D'Vorah.

Alright, lets not kid ourselves here, they're nice NPCs as nice NPCs go, but if they stuck 4 to 6 of those people in a kombat pack, they'd catch all kinds of hell for it, and people would bitch up a storm that all 4 to 6 new characters were essentially rehashes of the same gimmick (IE. Native Outworlder) (Note: Except for the the 1 or 2 tarkatans who would just get called Baraka rehashes)

Lets not kid ourselves here, as a nameless mob, they're interesting. Our imaginations run wild. If they sold us a kombat pack of Loincloth guy 1, Loincloth guy 2, Skullface lady, and bone through the nose guy, they'd catch as much hell for it as they do for selling us 5-6 special forces characters.

Still beats guest characters though, so I guess it's all relative.

Well no Gill, four (of those) out of six DLC characters would be pushing it, lol. But there's a lot of potential in those characters. A female Osh-Tekk witch/warrior, who looked like THAT? I'd love that. I don't know if you guys ever saw Apocalypto, but these Osh-Tekk designs are very reminiscent of that movie.. just google it if you've never seen the film. Perhaps some of those designs could work as additional costumes for certain characters.

ProfesserAhnka
We could have a Netherrealm demon (Ashrah), we could have a vampire (Nitara), we could have the Queen of Edenia (Sindel)

Yep, I agree. A wider variety in archetypes would be preferable. It's kinda weird to have three Special Forces females. Meanwhile, they excluded Takeda, who probably was the most interesting 'kombat kids' character.

ProfesserAhnka
Because she killed their precious Mileena.

Mileena's my personal favorite MK female, and I think D'Vorah was a great addition.
