In light of the newest leaks, and the surprising support to see Frost in the game, I decided to create this thread to gauge what you guys think of Frost as a character and what you think she can bring to the table in MK11.
I've always thought Frost was a lackluster character. It's cliche'd, but I don't see the value in having two characters whose main shtick is cryomancy.
The two games I did play that had Frost in it did not convince me she belongs. There was certainly an attempt to separate her from Sub, but it wasn't good enough for me. Seems too much like a female clone to me.
I definitely also have a bias towards game play over story and design. With a custom variation system like we have in MK11 I cannot see how Frost could be a good character choice. I would be happy to be proven wrong though.
The only reason I could see them justifying Frost's inclusion is if they bring back all of the Kombat Kids, really ramp them up and the classic characters down, then get rid of the classic characters next iteration. This is very doubtful and just speculation though.
TL;DR I don't think Frost is a solid character choice inclusion. The main reason is the cliche'd "shes a Sub-Zero clone" and I can't see them making her unique enough in terms of game play. What's your take?
I'm just happy to see Netherrealm finally giving love to a 3D era character not named Kenshi and Quan Chi (though I like both)
I'm actually hyped for Frost, she could be the VAIN VEGA character I need so bad, a game without a vain character is not a game at all.

I am absolutely down with Frost. I always liked her, and I’m curious as to what she’s going to do in the new timeline. She’s probably going to be my main too.
*EDIT* I always thought she should have been the Lin Kuei addition to the kombat kids. Having her and Takeda in the same place would have been entertaining...not to mention her with Cassie from the events of the MKX comic. There’s a lot of ways they could go with her.
Waste of a roster spot. There are way more deserving female characters that it could have gone to.
I'm fairly confident "Waste of a roster spot" has been used for all 70+ characters at some point or another, I really do.

Remember that thread about "what characters do you not want?" I kept a running tally and the only characters not specifically dis-requested were Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung.
So yeah, I absolutely believe (pretty much) everyone is a wasted roster slot in someone's eyes

I purposefully strayed away from using language like wasted roster spot. I don't believe in writing a character off before we really see much of them. I understand why people would, and if there was anyone on that list that sticks out to me it is Frost, even over Jacqui.
To be honest, I would expect someone like Nitara over Frost.
Mostly what I am hearing is
A) Happy shes in because she is 3D era character that hasn't gotten much development like Quan and Kenshi have
B) It sounds like, and correct me if I am wrong, people are liking the potential of her story development. This is just potential right? There really isn't too much to go off of, is there?

Hey memba that movie where 4 chicks put on painters overalls and caught ghosts? Yeah we didn’t need a female version of ghostbusters and we don’t need a female cryomancer to make us feel good.
if Frost is in scrap subby. Two cryomancers is a waste of a spot... nothing to do about the character

^ Nope. If the two characters play nothing alike, then it’s not a wasted roster slot even if they share similar ice powers. That’s like complaining about Ryu and Ken both being in a Street Fighter.

Eh.

That’s all well and good but my preference is for variety in the aesthetic
Well since ice clone hasn't been konfirmed for subby, hopeful she'll have it. That's a plus.
If Frost is a goodguy, I will hate her. But I’m sure she is a vain, power-hungry bitch that works for Kronika, as you know, ice can freeze time, perfect minion for Kronika.
Ice clone fits her perfectly, she loves statues of herself.
FB: Trans4Materia Card Game I invented "Circling Vulture, Laughing Hyena"
True story, it happened to a friend of a friend of mine... EVERYBODY!
Nobody is komplaining that Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, Scorpion, Sektor, Blaze, Tanya, Kobra, Taven, and Daegon all use fire...
Or that Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Ermac, and Quan Chi use souls...
But God forbid we have only 2 ice users!

I would be pretty happy with Frost's inclusion as long as the deviate form Sub-Zero's design. I am pretty sure they will not play alike at all. The argument that Frost should not be in the game because she is too similar to Sub-Zero is ridiculous to me. To that end when would Frost return since Sub-Zero will highly likely retun in every Mortal Kombat game? Looking at Killer Frost and Sub-Zero in Injustice series and they could easily differentiate them both in design and moveset in my opinion.

Or ya'know, Captain Cold & Sub-Zero, who were even in the SAME Injustice.

In all seriousness, I'd rather have Hsu Hao than Frost.

I dunno....Ice Shower/Ice Shaker as the go-to Freeze move? Ice Aura and Ice Shield from MKX?
In a game like MK11 where Sub-zero is so jam-packed with freezing abilities, what do you give to Frost?

Not sure. Maybe incorporate snow abilities, in to projectiles, attacks and defences with the ice and cold powers she naturally has. Avalanche ground slides and blizzards used by force. These are just some things that could make her different.

I honestly didn't play Injustice (1 or 2) so asking myself this very same question I watched some Captain Cold video earlier today to get an idea of how an ice character who isn't Sub-Zero could play in a game that already has Sub-Zero...
I watched about 30 seconds of it and said, "Yep. There's enough here to work with."
Seriously, they could take half his moves, make them come out of Frost's hands instead of a gun and she'd already play nothing like Sub-Zero. (Not that I think they'll do something so uninspired as to make her a Captain Cold knockoff... but... my point is they clearly have MORE than a few crib notes for ice moves.)

Never shake hands with a man who wears his heart on his sleeve.
So what do we know about Frost as a character? She's reckless and impulsive, with less mastery of her powers than Sub-Zero. Eager to prove herself; arrogant yet also insecure. Sneaky and a backstabber.
If I were building Frost, I'd give her an untamed and undisciplined fighting style comparable to Mileena. Flashy, because she lives to impress. Yet her tactics should be rather indirect and subversive, leaning more toward hindering her opponent and making it less of a fair fight. As much as she frets over how she compares to her peers, using tactics that bring people down a notch seems appropriate.
Since her powers are less developed, I see her having snow and fog based abilities more than solid ice. She could use fog as a sort of invisibility cloak to hide her exact position and what she's doing, or to teleport (ala Jason), or to create a field that empowers her attacks or damages her opponent. Instead of a projectile freeze, she could have a freeze touch -- either as a parry or as an enhancement to a lunging dagger attack, command grab, or somesuch. A snow blast (reminiscent of Hsu Hao's clap) could push opponents away and complement her ranged capabilities, such as thrown daggers and/or icy needles diving from the sky. A snow blast could also cling to the opponent and slow their movement or prevent jumping, etc. Her classic ground freeze could function more like Quan Chi's runes, erupting from the ground at set distances and holding the opponent's feet for a short time.
While Sub-Zero is fairly direct in his fighting style, Frost can be more of a trickster who relies on subversive tactics to make up for her lack of substantive skill and discipline. It falls in line with her character and can significantly differentiate her from her mentor.
