Is it just me or have the tracks for MKX/MK11 been really boring and not memorable?
After watching the trailer that used the track from the movie I was hoping it would make an appearance in the game. Perhaps when you fought kronika.

The tournament stage has a variation of it. Not the full fledged track.
I realy enjoy the music in MK11
Its way better and more present than MKX.

I wonder how involved Dan Forden still is.
The music is awful in this game. Just straight up bad and boring. I miss the days of good arena, character select and ladder music. MKD had the best character select music and I’ve been wishing to get something similar ever since then.

Shao Kahn did nothing wrong
For what it's worth I do love the main menu theme in this game. I catch myself humming it to myself at work. Other than that though nothing really stands out. It's all boring.

Nothing has stuck out to me. I miss the classic music. MK needs more dark music

Deadly Alliance would like to have a word with you (regarding character select themes).
I liked the PS2 era music because it had the most experimentation. DA character select was basically techno or some shit. The bass and vocal choices were interesting with screams and reversed chants and shit.
I mean it, if anyone is willing to help, I'd make a custom MK11 soundtrack and pitch it to the studio.

Dedicated, hopeless...Li Mei fan.
The problem isn’t that the music in this game is bad, but rather it’s very generic. The tracks are obviously well produced, but they feel like they were spliced in from an unrelated summer blockbuster from WB. MKX had that same problem. The tracks don’t pop or standout, but rather they get completely lost in the fight due to all the action that’s happening.
Arguably the most memorable track is the one that plays in the main menu, but even that track sounds like it wouldn’t have been out of place in Injustice.

Deadly Aliance had good theme music as well.

Strongly disagree. I think it's the best soundtrack since the 3D era, after 3 games of middling and disappointing music. A lot of it reminds me of the best stuff they were doing in that trilogy. It's distinctly Mortal Kombat, and I'm really impressed by how much better the music is this time around.

I agree with some of these comments. The main menu theme is cool, some elements here and there of what we were presented are still good. But these recent soundtracks are too "Hollywood" for me and pale in comparison to MK 1/2/3. I know it's not that I am older now and those tracks grabbed me as an adolescent, because Killer Instinct 2013 NAILED the soundtrack and gave me chills, hell I even purchased the music to have for myself. I just don't think recent MK's are injected enough with the music style of classic MK. It is way too "background" these days.

I really like it. I actually hear a lot of classic MK elements in it, things that remind me of MK3, MK4, and even some elements that remind me of some of the tracks from the movies. These elements are juxtaposed with modern, orchestral elements, but it's done really well, IMO.
The real problem, for me, is that by default, the music is way too low in the mix, so I feel like I barely even heard it playing for the first few days. I finally just muted the sound effects and other audio stuff almost completely, so that I could hear the music properly, and I really like the compositions and orchestrations! They really need to be louder by default.
I would say that there may be certain elements of the orchestrations that weren't mixed in the best way, like drums sounding too thin and tinny, or electric guitars being way too quiet on some tracks. It certainly feels like in terms of the mix, they wanted to make the soundtrack more understated to give way to the meaty sound effects. I'd be very happy if they released this OST officially, properly mixed for listening purposes.
So maybe what the OP is complaining about is that aspect of it. I haven't played Killer Instinct myself, but when I think of a good fighting game soundtrack, I imagine something with music very prominent as a part of the overall soundscape of the game, that gets the blood pumping. Whereas in this game, like I said, it's way too quiet, and even when played by itself, it sounds a little thin. But in terms of the actual compositions, the music that was written for the game is absolutely excellent.

I gotta disagree here, I think the music is leaps and bounds better than MK9 and MKX. The Kolosseum, Goro's Lair Remix, and Wu Shi Dragon Grotto are really memorable. The ominous, quiet theme when you progress through the ladders is also great.
Now, if only we could get Dan Forden and Mick Gordon to collaborate on a future MK title, that would be dope as fuck.

I like the music. I especially like the violin theme that plays at the end of every match

I was going to post about this.
The issues vary from track to track I there are any.
Shang Tsung Island Ruins is one of the best tracks for the following reasons: the drums have slap, instruments that aren't fugal horns are actually more audible than said horns, non-obtrusive guitar.
I never noticed but there is always my too much guitar (vary the instruments), when there's more than guitar, it's being drowned out by the horns and the drums arenta usually strong (in volume/mix).
Like you said, there's some dope shit in these compositions, they just don't bring out yhe unique elements enough to make each one really stick out.
Also, too quiet.
Also, why the fuck can't you unlock the Tournament track for listening pleasure? Its always one tiny little stupid thing that could make my day and it gets fucked.
... here's your Subzero, now plain zero.
Black Dragon music has never sounded better. Main theme is very memorable but the other sound tracks do vary in terms of quality.

I will prob remix sum of em for ShuTube and spice em up anyways
Maybe make a diss track or two

I would shat myself if Mick Gordon was on the music team. That dude knows how to old-school-update things.

In Mick Gordon we trust.
