I'm scared the character select music will suck ass. There's some things I'm eternally pessimistic about thanks to MK vs DCU. :(

OK, I've given NRS quite a bit of flak for some of the decisions they've made about this game, but as far as the box art is concerned, they knocked it out of the park. It's really very well done. I'm sure I'm going to see some hate on the grounds that it's Scorpion and Sub-Zero yet again, but said haters need to deal with it. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the big tickets here, so it's only logical that they be featured on the box art.

Yeah big tickets, not the only tickets. Did you see the cover art for SSFIV or MvC3? Both had the "Star" characters on it, but also featured lesser known characters. I don't see why Mortal Kombat ALWAYS focuses around the same two characters when other fighting games, with worse plot lines, seem to manage to spread the lime light around some.
I wouldn't be such a stick in the mud about this if we hadn't already been bombarded with Sub-zero and Scorpion info, renders, gameplay, Story trailers, fatality trailers, and knowning we get Sub-zero and Scorpion figures with the Kollector's edition.
The view of the characters is so slanted towards those two that when we get more new Sub-zero and Scorpion info, I find myself not caring. I would rather see a blurry magazine scan of Sindel or Jade, then see some more drawn out Scorpion/Sub-zero content.
Not saying this to start a debate, just wanted to get it off my chest. /rant

Finally, a release date. The box art looks great too.
And people really need to stop complaining about the box art. For one, they're using Sub-Zero and Scorpion because they're the two most recognizable and well-known characters (this is great for their marketing of the game to hardcore fans and those who haven't had any interest in the series in years). Two, they probably didn't use the classic, basic dragon because they need to distinguish this game somewhat from the original MK (Yes, I know it's obvious this game isn't MK1, but they needed to enhance the box art just a bit to capture the interest of potential buyers).

A few things... Good things though...
1.) Sub-Zero and Scorpion were the right choice of characters to put on the cover. The fact that they're in fighting poses makes it even better than just having what they did for Armageddon.
2.) Someone mocked about how Kratos is featured on the cover of the PS3 version... can anyone ever get over his appearance in the game for the PS3?
3.) April 19th isn't a bad date to release the game, I just have no idea when my spring break is.
Other than that, I really liked what they did here. They did a very swell job on it.

Don't see all the hate surrounding the Sub-Zero and Scorpion on the cover. Somebody care to explain that to me?

This and much more.
It didn't really "matter" this bad before considering that they always did a good job promoting/marketing other characters even if the spotlight was always given to Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
Like, they have the "main ones" and also a decent amount of stuff featuring the "other ones".
MK1: For this game: Raiden, Kano, Johnny, Sonya, and Goro were the main marekting tools. Not even the 2 ninjas.
MK2: Scorpion, Johnny, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Kitana, Mileena, Jax, Baraka were the main ones.
MK3:The main ones were Sonya, Kano, Sub-Zero, and Tsung. Other ones that were given a nice amount of spotlight were Kahn, Sindel and even Sheeva.
MK4: The main ones were Scorpion, Subby, Sonya, and Raiden. Liu Kang, Quan Chi, Goro and Johnny and Reptile had also some time.
MKDA: Quan Chi, Tsung, Scorpion, Subby, Sonya, and Kenshi had the most crazy attention. Everyone else shared a bit of time and spotlight.
MKD: Mileena, Baraka, Scorpion, and Subby had the most. But we also got decent amount of stuff featuring Sindel, Bo', and quite a few others.
MKA: The "returners" such as Sektor and Rain got their light, but, for overall promotion we had main things featuring Scorpion, Subby, Sonya, Kahn, Johnny, Kano, Goro, and even Sindel. Nice balance and nice stuff imo.
MKvsDC: Even though the main ones were Scorpion, Sonya, and Sub-Zero (from MK side), so much stuff featuring all the cast was shown and shared. Raiden got his big amount towards the end.
MK2011: Scorpion and Sub-Zero for a billion months since the release.....that's it.
Mileena stuff just recently.
Sonya got tons of attention in magazines "all over the world" as quoted in the official twitter. So many new pics of her render and screenshots everywhere, but, only in mags. Nothing online yet (HQ).
A few content featuring Raiden and Shao Kahn.
Everyone else the same story. Jade, Sindel, Ermac, Cyrax, Kitana, had little to nothing in mags. Kitana just recently got her renders up with Mileena, so, thats finally awesome.
Over 10 Mk characters to promote since the "first trailer", and Kratos still got a better and more impressive reveal than all of them combined.
Ugh.
They should had stuck with the awesome formula they had during MKvsDC and even MKDA and MK3. There were always the "main ones" (Scorpion, Subby, Sonya, Raiden, etc) for promotion, but there was also the rest of the cast (seriously).

What's so bad about it? Aside from people bitching that it's Scorpion and Sub-Zero on the cover instead of just the dragon, nobody has actually said anything worth a damn in terms of criticism.

Midway isn't doing the marketing anymore, remember? It's Warner Bros. now.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero have become the poster characters for MK. Let's just admit that right now. They are the two characters that you could ask anybody with a passing interest in games who those two are and chances are they'd be able to tell you.
I've still yet to see a valid argument against these two aside from "they aren't giving enough attention to MY favorite character so I'm angry". That is about as far as any argument has gone on these forums. Just rampant fanboyism really.
I personally prefer them not focusing on a lot of the characters. What's the point of being flooded with info for so many characters? Kind of takes away the fun.
Plus, you could sell a game without a character like Mileena, or Sonya, or Sektor, or Smoke. Try selling an MK game without Sub-Zero or Scorpion. They are the Ken and Ryu of MK, they have, for one reason or another, stuck with a bigger audience, and they get the most attention.

The game will be in your hands in less than 3 months time. Any and all characters that didn't receive all the attention and hype, will be that more exciting when you finally get to play as them. Who cares if Sub and Scorp are done to death? Would you rather your favorite character get crammed down your throat, or every character shown in detail with tons of gameplay footage and marketing, only to have them seem boring and old by the time you actually play the game? Just be happy that the focus has mainly been on 2-3 characters so far, it leaves the other characters to have much more excitement and anticipation built around them. The game feels boring if every character has been featured and promoted leading up to the game.
There's a reason why I am wanting to play as Cyrax, Kano, Raiden, Sektor, Johnny etc. more than Sub and Scorp, and I happen to like playing as Sub and Scorp. It's because they are taking the brunt of the marketing, as they should, and it lets us diehard fans enjoy our characters that much more when it really matters. If I had to choose between being happy and satisfied now, and happy and satisfied later when the game is in my console and on my screen...I'd choose the latter. Give the complaining a rest for once...we've gotten enough content that shows off the game quite well and assures us it's much better than what we have been getting.
There's still 2 and a half months of marketing ahead of us, just let it pan out and enjoy it for what it is. The less revealed and showed before hand, the more you'll appreciate it when it comes to experiencing it for yourself. I hated in previous years when they would show off every character months before the game came out. They would show everything about the character, even 1 or 2 of their fatalities. Nothing was kept secret. It felt old, boring, and it didn't feel as fresh since we were overexposed. Spoiled. This time they are holding back and I guaruntee the results will be phenomenal. It's just like when you are deprived from anything: Food, Sex, Sleep etc. When you finally get what you're craving for, it's so much better after the wait.
As far as the cover goes, it looks fine to me. It's just a cover art, and the art on it looks pretty badass. Not sure if I would have liked the dragon better, but either way it's fine by me.

Yeah, the dragon symbol squashed between two other games that could much more eye catching covers.

I've seen you mention this a few times, but I don't see it. What awesome formula? What Promotion? I've followed all MK releases since MKDA. We are getting ALOT more for this game;
They are all over the major social networks facebook, twitter, Youtube.
They have been showing the game at all the major game expos.
Cover stories in all major mags.
We are getting actual character specific combo vids (fist time ever!)
Character wallpapers and Artworks that look better than all the ones from previous games combined!
A new MK album with actual good artists composing tracks.
Collectors edition that includes GOOD stuff (all the previous ones were pathetic) 100+ page artbook, amazing figurines and a freaking Arcade stick!
You cannot say they havent done a good job. There has not been hype about an MK game for a LONG ASS time, like this one is getting! I mean, I know you want to see Sonya and all, but give it some time...game is only 3 moths away. ;)

Sure, but is that going to stand out on a shelf with other games by itself? Nobody here is going to pass the game by on a shelf at Gamestop or Best Buy, or Amazon. But the marketing for this game really isn't trying to target us, is it?
