Damn, she's beautiful! Now I know why Johnny Cage mocked the fact that she picked Liu Kang over him at the end of MK: Shaolin Monks."

Hehe, funny because it's true!!

All this ruckus over a small black and white image. Imagine what's going to happen when the full colour hi-res version is released!!

Why you ask? It has nothing to do with realism, unless suddenly Kitana would be a "realistic" character if she wore more clothing. Attire has nothing to do with realism; several characters have realistic attires and are still fantasy characters. Characters can still be in the realm of the fantastic no matter if they're completely naked or completely covered. This is merely about what Ihappen to like the best in terms of character design.

I'm not going to state my opinions on this again after this. I've tried again and again to do it and my words are distorted and people imply I believe things that I do not.

For the record I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth as much as I was pulling info from a previous thread talking about Kitana and character evolution. I see where you're coming from now as it was more a personal preference of a character design. So yeah, my bad if I was looking at your response in the wrong context. At the risk of sounding like a kiss-ass, I definitely don't want you to feel like you're unwelcome on the very site you put effort into maintaining. Just wanted to clear that up.

It'd probably be a whole lot easier for people to take the high road if they weren't throwing overwhelming support behind a mediocre Princess Slave Girl outfit.

To anybody who's actually enthusiastic about this costume, I'm going to ask a simple question. What do you actually like about it? I'm not asking what do you like about Kitana's body. What do you like about the aesthetic design of the costume itself? What about it is particularly interesting?

Because while I'm not incredibly annoyed by it, I am incredibly indifferent. It's just boring to me. There's none of Kitana's personality in it. There's none of her status in it. There's none of her profession in it. There's nothing particularly detailed about it. It's so far the most soulless costume shown thus far.

So what really makes it so special?

I think the whole thing looks good. It seems like the designers used motifs from various already existing edenian designs and put it into one. The fabric they are trying to replicate as well as the embroidered designs I think help make it look more high class, as does the royal blue (though after seeing the re-coloring, I wouldn't complain if the accents were gold). I love how she has long hair, and they used the band/tiara for aesthetics and also so her hair won't get in her way while she's fighting. I'm sure Kitana spends most her time out of the ring, at the side of Shao Kahn (she is his personal assassin/daughter), and I could see her wearing this to one of the big fighting events (like gladiators). Since her weapon of choice is so flashy, I don't see why her costume shouldn't be too. This is just my drawn out opinion though lol. If I didn't answer correctly, lemme know!

I'm NOT one of the ones who likes it...but I can't necessarily agree with that either.

The hairband has the shape of a tiara and the gloves and boots are covered in some sort of fancy design, that definitely says regal and princess-like to me, so in that sense, it does show off some of Kitana's identity and personality.

The PROBLEM is, it's the WRONG Kitana. This isn't the point in the story where she's the princess of Edenia, this is the point where she's an assassin, working for evil and darkness while hiding her true motives. The regalness is completely inappropriate for MK9.

It might have been a good Kitana outfit if it were for a game set AFTER MK3, if she didn't look like a belly dancing harem girl.

I think we should be hoping for a good design, before we hope for an appropriate design. Baby steps for MK.

This has progressed beyond ridiculous. I think Kitana looks very elegant and very classy. She wears more clothing than over half the MK cast. I mean, the only clothing Goro wears is a tiny banana-hammock that just barely contained his formidable and intimidating half-dragon dong.

You can't not look at his groin. I dare you.

But I'll tell you why I DO like her outfit.

For starters, I looked at several images of classic Arabian princesses and harem girls, both real and imagined, as well as fantasy images of arabic female djinn (genies), as well as fictional female assassins. This look for Kitana is a very interesting and, I believe, appropriate combination of her roles as assassin, regal authority figure, ageless creature, and beautiful object of desire, streamlined in a way that is consistent with her past outfits and appearances. Whether not it is "appropriate" for the time period is open to debate, but my own interpretation is that Kitana was accepted as royalty and as Kahn's favored daughter and personal protector, and this look suits those roles quite nicely.

There are other, little details I enjoy, such as a return to her long, untied hair look from MK2, her fierce and confident (instead of bland and placid) demeanor, expressions, and body language, her elegance and trimmings, which are evident without being cumbersome in battle, the patterns in her clothing, the return to her masked visage, and just a general flow of the cloth and clothing around her body.

It actually reminds me quite a bit of fellow hot assassin Elektra.

Say what you will about her boobs being too big, her outfit being too scandalous, her colors being dull... whatever, but I ultimately think she is superbly designed and falls in line with the overall look of the game as well as her prior representations and incarnations. And I can safely say that she exudes sexuality and beauty yet maintains a fierce and powerful presence, akin to a graceful lioness, a creature of majestic beauty that can still tear a victim into bloody chunks with ruthless efficiency.

I really think that Kitana has never looked better, and I feel my age-old attraction to her, as a beautiful woman and efficient fighter, returning from my arcade-hopping days when a certain cute girl I knew kicked the living hell out of me with Kitana and finished me off with a Kiss of Death fatality. She looks confident and strong, with fire in her eyes, and that's rekindling the lost feelings of admiration and respect for her I had during her MK2 and MK3 days. I can't properly describe how great that feeling is and how much I'm embracing this design.

If we're talking strictly aesthetics (minus sex appeal and minus backstory significance) I like the pattern work of her mask, boots, gloves, and crotch cloth. It seems like the went heavy towards some sort of sultry fan dancer vs assassin or royalty though. Admittedly she looks more at home dancing for some Sheike than slicing up fools.

No. I think it's much more to do with being absolute, lowest common denominator, tasteless morons, thrilled by the prospect of any steaming crap with spikes and a ninja mask... but I could be wrong...

I'm not, though.

Come on Garlador. Goro is not designed to be a sexually arousing character. It has more to do with intent than total inches of fabric on the characters in question.

I'm just wondering something. A lot of you talk about the females being beautiful. Someone even went so far as saying, basically, "She's supposed to be a beautiful woman, so big breasts make sense". Then someone else said that if I didn't like this Kitana, that would I like females that look like fat guys from Street Fighter. Do you all feel that to be an attractive character these females have to have better than average figures and be half naked? Someone with a more ordinary figure and more clothing can't still be attractive?

Tasteless Morons? That's a rather offensive comment to make don't you think Mick? You can't lump everyone together like that. Sure, there are people (mostly guys) who aren't even paying attention to the costume itself and just her bust and curves, but I however am female, so Kitana's tits are the last thing on my mind. I don't feel like having to go into into some deep drawn out mumble about design and aesthetics, because it isn't needed. Just because someone likes the costume doesn't mean they don't have taste or class, and likewise just because someone doesn't like the costume doesn't mean that they are prude, conservative puritans. At this point, we can all agree to disagree, but all this pointless bashing and belittling needs to stop.

This isnt my favorite look for her, personally i prefer when she looks more badass and less goody girl. but i think this is the closest we've got Kitana looking regal and princess like while retaining elements of her past designs.

I also dont think this black and white render does justice to how she looks while fighting.

Did everyone complain this much in 2005 when MK Deception came out and Mileena, Jade, and Tanya all got costumes like this? The only thing that really bothers me about Kitana's costume is her loin cloth is too short, They need to make it much longer. Also, they should get rid of the criss cross on her bust, save that for her alternate costume. This is Kitana's best look so far, it balances out fighter with princess and to the people who say it doesnt fit in the time period because she was an assassin for Shao Khan, Kitana was also Khan's daughter and therefore princess of outworld so Her looking more regal makes perfect sense, She wasnt always fighting, this is probably how she would dress anyway. Her alternate costume will be much more a ninja type costume.
