WTH is up with all of this talk about Yankees this or Yankees that? This is the 21st century pal, such distinctions are intolerant and no longer warranted, especially when the game designers are also "Yankees" so go watch your 2001 Maniacs and dream the South will rise again.

P.S. I'm in the South.

This is how it is.

1. People are still offended by the gore in Mortal Kombat, it's just not all over the news anymore because MK has already been down that stretch of road.

2. Some people are obviously going to be offended by sex in anything, no matter what the context.

Although I think its ridiculous, I can see where some people think violence is okay and sex isn't.

You see, its easier to explain to a small child that fighting is wrong unless you have no other option, than it is to explain what kinds of sex are wrong and what kinds are right.

Sex is just a much more complex subject than most, some small children can't handle it at such a young age, they might be able to grasp the basics, but its harder for them to understand what might lead to sex, unwanted consequences, etc.

I don't have a problem with sex, I have a problem with ridiculous sex, the kinda stuff you'd see in a porno. That's just laughable and idiotic, and can potentially give younger ones a skewed view of sex, leading to confusion later in life.

Obviously if you're mature enough and you need to get your rocks off go ahead, but you know what I mean.

Anyway if they can fit sexual themes into a video game without being over-the-top then its no big deal really.

The point brought up about the military industrial complex is also valid, however many Americans seem to have an innate love of guns.

In this sense, MK and God of War are the 2 leading non-gun violent games.

Taboo? Probably. Completely unnecessary? Yes.

Whilst having sex in MK wouldn't stop me buying the game, it certainly wouldn't make me want to play the game more so than if it didn't.

Sex just doesn't belong in video games, there's no need for it. Mass Effect and Dragon Age did it kind of well, only because them games are heavy story and spend a lot of time building on the characters, but even then you don't see anything really.

For a fast paced fighter focused on gameplay, there's no need for sex. It'd be cheap, pointless and unnecessary controversial

I just don't want "sex" in MK because its so unnecessary and it would be ridiculous.

There is absolutely no need to show this. It would feel out of place and quite stupid to be honest.

"Sexiness" is fine, but, actual sex scenes (even if they don't really show that much) just makes me roll my eyes.

That being said, I am not a prude and its not like I consider sex taboo. I just feel like its really ridiculous in video games mainly because its super unnecessary.

Fact: Quoting game designers in an attempt to prove or disprove a theory about the future of the MK franchise is a fool's errand. Sometimes what they say on the subject proves to be accurate, other times it does not. Somehow life goes on.

About them doing it well? If so, I agree.

Dragon Age was especially funny. Dead-eyed uncanny valley elves and shit all dry humping in their undies to faux Enya music.

Honestly, that's giggle-worthy, not erotic. Then I found out that you unlock achievements for boning NPCs and that pretty much convinced me that developer Bioware was in on the joke. smile

As of right now, eroticism in video gaming just doesn't work.

I wasn't talking about how well the characters performed. I was saying that the way they added sex wasn't just for the sake of it, it was relevant to an extent, where as there is absolutely no point in MK having any form of sex (apart from the obvious trampification of the female characters)

What's the point of it in a game?

If I wanted to see pornography, I have the internet.....which I use.

apparently, some of you guys have never played the God Of War series. They don't show sex happening, but the sounds let us know and there is boobies everywhere and no one has an issue about that!

I think MK should be a little bit more sexed up, to be honest. It would make it just that much more realistic. there is no way that the way they are fighting would happen to leave clothes intact in only strategic areas. come on now. everyone's clothes would be torn and ripped all over the place. wangs and boobies hanging out everywhere.

CanadianMKMaster makes a good point with God of War.

Perhaps a good compromise is to follow the example of R-rated Horror movies. They almost always show boobies, and since MK is back to being M-rated, maybe it should have a boobie revealing damage option, too!

This option would only affect the individuals game appearance, and not what the opponent sees during online play.

But, just what is the point?

There is no need for any nudity to be in the game, it's unnecessary bad media attention.

North American society is pretty backwards forbeing very accepting of violence but not nudity.

No one is saying in agame like MK they want the fighters to engage in sexual acts while in the middle of a bloody fight , but a shot of boob in a cutscene shouldnt be taboo.

And games like leisure suit larry shouldnt be shunned. Those old school larry games were awesome.

People think nothing of showing a guy being brutally cut in half with a chainsaw but if you show a woman topless then people want to run the developrs out of town.

Its backwards if you ask me.

There is nothing wrong with nudity.

If the boobs and members would pop out during play, I'd probably laugh too hard to be able to put up a solid fight. Can you imagine Reptile's scaly stick dancing around as he jumps? Hilarious!

What the hell is the point? Just look up some porn if you're that lonely. You're on the internet.

It has nothing to do with it being "taboo" or offensive. It's just pathetic and embarrassing. Keep it out.

It's not about overt displays of gratuitous sex acts in MK2011 per se; it's about sex versus violence in video gaming and how ass-about a contruct this is today.

No one's calling for the combatants each to get a 'Sexuality'! All that's being suggested is that sex being shunned in video games, while heinous violence is embraced whole-heartedly, is incorrect for an advance society and unhealthy for gamers.

'Yan-kees' getting all hot under the collar for being called out as prudes, wowzers and gore whores for being 'scared' of human sexuality and stopping their ears with drivel like it's "too hard" to reconcile this natural human compulsion in a video game setting, only demonstrates that there is indeed some foundation to this argument.

Video games try to simulate reality on every level to create as an immersive experience as possible. Why should sex be treated any differently? Dancing around the issue sex in gaming like some vestal virgin, rips the gamers out of the experience and makes them realise how infantile a pursuit their pastime still is. It's to the detriment of the game and hamstrings the industry's progression.

It definitely would impair the male characters badassery if their dicks were hanging out. Maybe less so on some level for the female characters; double standard yes, but I think female nudity has an inherently less clumsy look (and I think this is independent of sexuality).

Even still, it would be pretty reductionary to characters like Sonya, who should have a serious military rep, not that it hasn't already been trashed by giving her a thong. Mileena fully nude though. Yeah, and not just for creepy reasons. It fits her uninhibited personality.

Outright sex scenes, HELL NO. It would weaken a lot of the characters' image in my eyes. It just makes them look clumsy and vulnerable. A bit like watching a character take a shit.
