I disagree.

MK:SM Kitana (the render) and MKDA Kitana (the in-game model) are her absolute best designs ever.

My favorite hair style being MKDA and favorite costume ever her MKSM design (again, the render picture).

Those 2 are a billion times more original, creative, and inspired than this "new" costume. They are very deadly, very assasin-like, and a sort of royal aura around it: Perfect.

The only thing that captures my attention about 2011 Kitana is the cool drawings/designs in her outfit (the flowery marks) and maybe that tiara.

On a plus side, I do think this model is much better than the MKvsDC design.

PS: The steel-fans deserved a much better design. I still can not understand what in the world made them do them this way. They look so bad...(they are still my favorite MK weapon ever, though).

The only thing I didn't like about shoalin monks was her granny bun, it looked a lot better in-game when she had bangs. I personally find 2011's design to be a lot better. For what it was, SM's costume was original, but I think this one blows it away.

Now Mileena's SM costume was amazing! Loved everything about it! Kitana's was kinda plain to me. But I think we're going to have to agree to disagree lol, I respect your opinion.

I think Kitana's 2011 costume is awesome and long overdue. I do really like her MKSM costume, like you said the render, not in game, but her MKDA costumes were just kinda boring also, the purple costume would be one of her best ones, if it was blue, why is it freakin purple? That really bothered me in that game, why just randomly change Kitana's color? Her other costume from MKDA, the blue masked one, however was pretty good, I liked how it was just an update from her UMK3 costume. Kitana's 2011 costume is very fitting of her character, and she should have gotten a costume like this much earlier.

I am kinda disappointed with her fans though, Kitana's MKDA and MKDC fans were very nicely designed and looked very cool in game. Her 2011 fans are just kind of bland. I think they should make them look like the did in the MK movies or they should have had thinner blades on them, it looks like they screwed in knives to her fans or something.

I think Mileena's SM costume is good for what it was but a complete and total fat 0 when compared to the original she used in MKD. I mean, she is almost naked in MKSM! Almost no design, at all.

As for Kitana, yeah, we agree to disagree. smile

PS: I'd take the granny bun over the new hairstyle any day (they can keep the pretty bangs).

On that, I can agree with you.

The fans are really bland and simple.

I much rather have the deadly metallic look of her MK2 and MKU fans. Those rocked!!! They looked so fierce and cool in the VS pics and in-game.

The new ones are so bad. sad

MKDA fans were lovely and very cool, but, since she's had those for a while, I hoped they make the MK2-MKU metallic fans return.

I'm still the only one that likes these fans? The fans from the last group of MK games were too pretty and decorative, I mean people think she looks like a belly dancer now I can only imagine how bad it'd be with those flimsy things.
These fans look sturdier and seem like they're made for killing/shredding.

Not a fan of the MKSM outfit. My least favorite Kitana outfit tbh.

If not the MKDA-MKvsDC fans, they should had at least remade the classic MK2-MKU fans. Those are superb!

I just love the MKDA fans with those little designs and the shape of the blades ("knifes"). They look beautiful and deadly. Good job with that pic, Razos! The one thing I would change is their size. I'd totally make them bigger. I just realize they are actually a bit too small, no?

And I quote this response 'cause MK2 Kitana's fans would had been amazing for this game. Those are just freaking awesome and perfect. I think maybe my favorites.

Regarding the "new" ones, well, at least they look better than they did in MK Gold.

I would of liked them to do something MK2 'esque, but with blades. Something in between MKDA and MK2.
I always thought the ones from MKA were pretty fantastic, myself.

They should have made them look like this^ Like from the movie, they look badass there, I do like the MKDA ones though too, Also look how much better Kitana's MKDA costume looks blue instead of purple.

I like this model also

Steel fans, tips are all bladed

I do like her MK Gold fans too, I thin an update to these would look the best.

Agreed. That's another reason I don't like them, they're way too tiny. I guess they'd be better for throwing if they worked more like darts and she threw them closed though.

Flimsy? Both of them have the exact same metal frame with blue paper between the blades. The difference is the blades on the MK9 fans look cartoonish and the paper is boring to look at.

"Cartoonish looking" is how I'd describe the movie fans too. They're even worse than the MK9 ones. Man, I hated those things. They look too big for her to wield too. Maybe that's just Talisa Soto not knowing how to use them, but I bet they were just too large and heavy, making it harder to grip and balance them. I suppose that's why she only had them unfolded for all of two seconds on-screen. They were just plain awkward. More reasonably sized ones like the kind of Tessen people actually fight with would've been a lot more sane than such over-extravagant props.

I'm okay with Kitana's fans.

Personally, I'd prefer something more like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's Courtesan's fan, though, where every end of it was covered in small razor blades.

If there was a logical story reason for Kitana to have used more than one set of fans during the course of the series, like if for some reason she had different fans in MK2 and 3 than she did in DA thru Armageddon, then I'd really like a design like that for the MK2/3 fans.

But if it were up to me, every game and every remake would use ONE fans design for consistency's sake, and the design I'd use would be the MKDA one because I fucking love the knife blades, they just look so wicked.

I prefer the updated fans. The prior design looked a little too thrown together. Almost like she went into the kitchen, stole some steak knives, and taped them to a fan. What I appreciate about the new design is the fact that it looks more streamlined -- it looks like the blades are a part of the fan instead thrown onto it. IMO.

I wasn't too happy with the new fans when I first saw them, but now I think they're OK. I think they look good in the game. I actually think the new blades look deadlier than the ones from MKDA-MKA era and I agree with oracle that the new ones look more serious as a weapon.

I'm also lovin' how much she uses them in the combos and the sound they make. Perfect!

The only ones I really hated were her MKG in-game fans. Those were horrible!

For her classic costume skin I wouldn't mind a remake of her MK2 fans, but I doubt they'll bother to design another ones.

What bothers me the most, and I said it billion times already, is that the fans still magically pop up out of nowhere, instead of her actually carrying them attached around her waist, or at her back or even hidden in her boots.

Cool! So many Steel-fan pictures.

I think that, after seeing all the pics, I've finally come to the conclusion of which one I like the best.

unleash_your_tounge Wrote:

Yeah, I also love those. They do look too big and heavy though. But the design is really amazing. I was like: WOW! when I first saw them (yes, I was very little, still, I love them).

Make them smaller and slimmer and you probably have a winner.

wdm6789 Wrote:

After seeing this picture and some videos of her fan throw in MKA, I've come to realize that as beautiful as these steel fans design looks, it is not "bladed enough", but, at the same time, I'm not a fan of the huge bladed tips coming out like that. It is not as "awesome looking" as the classics.

If I could cut off the huge knife-blades that are sticking out and make them a lot smaller (like Garladors picture), making the main thing about the fan the blue metallic foil, they would be so much better.

I think a combination of that design with the regular MK2 steel fans would work the best.

That combination would definitely be my favorite of all. If I had to pick one of the existing ones, I'd still go for the MK2/MKU fans.

wdm6789 Wrote:

Wow....you know what? I take it back! I take back what I said about her MK Gold steel fans being her worst design.

I just watched a few videos of MK Gold Kitana gameplay and those fans look decent sized and very cool.

For some reason I remembered them A LOT smaller. Like, super tiny. But, I think the main reason I thought "I disliked them the worst" was because they really are the worst in execution, not in design.

They look cool and "big enough". They just look horrible when executed in-game.

Another thing that kind of puts me off about them is the color combination (it's not ugly, but, it doesn't match Kitana). With the right (metal/silver/blue) tweaks it can work.

They are actually a lot closer to the kind of fans I wish she had:

Imagine the MK2 fans (with all the steel flory and foils) + a little small arch right in the middle (that doesn't cover entirely the silver parts) with the paper designs/drawings of the MKDA steel fan.

Glorious.

I can't believe I though those were her worst.

wdm6789 Wrote:

They are Ok. Not my favorites though, but yes, much much better than the new ones.

Wow!!

I love them. I kind of wish this was the current design to be honest. I really really like this style of steel fans.

I agree.

I'd love a remake of the MK2 fans (not happening sad).

As for the weapons being attached in her body, well, it never bothered me before and it still doesn't. I do admit, though, that if they can do it with Scorpion's swords they should be able to do it with Kitana's and Mileena's weapons as well. It would probably look cooler. Oh well, not a big deal for me.

That would be awesome, I'm still hoping there's a classic pack for all the MK2 characters.

Though I can understand why they they don't have her fans on her at all times. it would probably take more frames for her to grab the fans, recoil, and throw them, which would make the move slow and easy to see coming. It works for Scorpion because the sword's on his back and right next to his hand. I saw in Mileena's fatality that purple light flashes before her sai appear, maybe Kitana will be the same, but I'm okay with what they have now.

Kitana's fans should definitely be on her costume, I think if they were attached to her belt on the back of her costume like crossed in an X over her butt would look awesome. I don't mind if they appear out of nowhere during gameplay, but they should be on her costume somewhere, like if when she's using them they disappear off her belt and when she's not using them or when she's done using them they appear back on her belt.

The blue parts bend and fold. Steel doesn't do that. So between the blades is either paper or some kind of fabric. Common sense.

This is kinda random, but I've been wondering this for a while *and this is a Kitana thread*. Razor had this awesome explanation for Sonya's Kiss of Death fatality in a previous thread, and I was wondering if you had one for Kitana's? The concept is awesome, but doesn't really make too much sense combined with her other moves.

The thing about Sonya is I was explaining how a character who never trained with kung fu masters and learned ancient secrets like what chi is and how to use it, would start gaining chi moves. I saw a parallel between her summoning a very tiny fireball in her hands and blowing it at people 'cause she can't throw it yet, and her learning moves from Liu Kang, a guy who has mastered chucking fireballs.

But Kitana comes from a realm where magic is commonplace. I'm fully prepared to accept that she simply learned as part of her assassin training how to seduce someone to lower their guard, then transfer a poisonous or explosive dose of chi with a kiss.

Mileena looks so awkward imo. Really forced outfit design and the hairstyle just doesn't sit well at all. She doesn't look comfortable in her own skin.

Kitana looks good though.
