The same happened for MKvsDCU, you could find hate comments everywhere about that game but it sold over 1.9 million copies.

Of course, you may have to wonder how many people bought that game BECAUSE of the DC characters like Superman and Batman, and how many people bought it in SPITE of the DC characters like Lex Luthor and Captain Marvel.

I mean, I'll still get the new MK game... but I'd be more eager to throw down my cash for it if it had more MK content and less gimmicky guest character filler. Just like I bought Soul Calibur IV in spite of backward-talking Yoda's tiny green muppet face smack-dab on the cover of the game itself.
krac_poe Wrote:<
Also, if any of you have millions of dollars to throw down up front, I'm sure NRS would be happy to make a game for you exactly how you want it. But you don't have the wads of cash it takes to make these games. WB does. It's their game. Period.

Except they're making a product. For consumers. And consumer demand ultimately should logically be what the makers of said product create and deliver. If I went to a pie factory and ordered an apple pie, but they said they had to put pretzels in the pie, that wouldn't make sense to me. Why? I ordered a bloody apple pie, not a pretzel. I like pretzels. I like pie. But if I wanted a pretzel, I'd just go to the pretzel factory next door. I shouldn't have to eat a pie and a pretzel together at once in the same package.

Games aren't solid constructs. They're formed from feedback and fan reactions. Honestly, NRS has been pretty good on that, and the game up until now has been very much a fan's wet dream. Should've had known it was too good to last. But, still, nobody should make a product, throw it to the wild, and just say "deal with it".

If that were the case, Final Fantasy XIV would be in a lot of trouble, since the overwhelming response to it was "this sucks", and they've taken the criticism to heart and have been working around the clock to valiantly/futilely save the game from not meeting fans' expectations.

Because, in the end, the people buying the game are the ones they should be listening to.

I'm not trying to offend anyone here, or start a flame war, or get skuller or anything but I feel as if this whoe thing is getting out of hand.

I've come to this site for years now, don't believe me? I still type in mk5.org to get here,

Anyway I just wanted to say that I feel like this whole thing has gotten ridiculous. I mean what is so horrible about Kratos being in Mortal Kombat 2011? Let's look at the arguements.

1. He's going to be overpowered and become constant online. This arguement doesn't even make sense, beyond the fact that we may see Kratos used frequently online on the PS3 version of the game, we have yet to see any gameplay ability from him to think he'll be over rater or over powered, furthermore, if Kratos wasn't in MK we would still see 100 Scorpions and Sub-Zeros online. The fact that he's an exclusive and we all want this game to be a tournement game, let's be real. One have you played any of the last Mortal Kombat games? I love MK, but Trilogy, Deadly Alliance, Deception ALL had infinites and broken characters, so are we really going to bitch about one guy who we think will tip the scales, and 2. In tournament versions of the game he probably will be banned.

2. He takes away the spotlight from Mortal Kombat. While I can understand this arguement, he really isn't taking away any spotlight at all. He's actually bring spotlight into Mortal Kombat. Let's be real here, MK hasn't been the juggernaught title it used to be in over 10 years, this is the rebirth of Kombat, and with Kratos as a guest character in VS. mode only he's bringing the game into a higher spotlight. God of War is a huge title right now and adding Kratos means more people will play the game, yea ok, some of them are going to be GOW fanboys so how do you beat that? Simple, you go online and you embarrass them by beating Kratos with a character such as Johnny Cage or Stryker. Kratos is such a bad ass? Can you imagine how good you'll feel when you beat him and you perform Kung Lao's fatality slicing Kratos in half nuts first? Do you know how embarrassing that'll be for GOW fans?

3. All the complaints that NRS doesn't listen to it's fanbase. The complaints are so irritating and I feel like I come from a group of ungratefull fans. For weeks I've read the complaints about Shao Kahns costume, nobody has like it, everyone has liked his first costume from the debut trailer, so what did NRS do? They released a new render of Shao Kahn in this costume (even though he was dead last one the website) to please the fans. The game has gone back to it's 2D roots, it's gory fatalities, and it's picking the most popular characters to please the fans. And those that don't make it in due to time restraints or storyline purposes will end up being the first DLC (We all know that Fujin, Kenshi, Tanya etc are going to appear eventually because that's what the fans want, and they'll probably be DLC because like Krato's they have no place in the storyline). NRS has done alot to try to please the fans, they've given us alot and Kratos is the first selfish "lets appeal to the casuals" thing they've done, although after mishaps like Armegeddon and Vs. DC it can be hard to have faith in NRS, this Mortal Kombat is creating a buzz I haven't seen from MK in years, and with Kratos that buzz just increased.

Finally let's look at some of the positives, while yea it might be annoying to have one guest character in the long run it can pay off. I played the first God of War because I wanted to play a hack and slash while waiting for the first Shaolin Monks, love it or hate it God of War was the rebirth of the hack-n-slash so if the NRS gets on good terms with the GOW team imagine the day when we could possibly have the Shaolin Monks we deserve, I loved the first one, but imagine the day when we can have an epic, beautiful, and gory action adventure game that we deserve that the GOW team can collaborate on if this goes well. Also don't be suprised if some how in the next GOW game one of Kratos' (or whom ever the main character is at that time) has a Scorpion alt. attire, things have a funny way of working out like that.

The MK community might not accept Kratos in the new game because we want it to be all about us, and while im disappointed that we didn't actually get a REAL character reveal tonight, we have to accept what we did got, and the PS3 owners who don't like the idea are just going to have to step up there game with this game is released and destroy Kratos online with the lowest tier character possible, that is an insult beyond words, and yet it does so much more then sit here and complain about it.

Realy? You really think the MK diehard fans that frequent this site and others like it are what make up the majority of people that buy these games? No. Maybe if it only sold around 10,000 at max...but add up all the individual MK site members, and you won't get more than a few thousand at max. It's selling a few MILLION.

NoobSmoke, that has never been the case in media. Movies, Television, Music, etc. The people making the media and the people funding the making of the media call the shots. Maybe it's not the way it SHOULD be, but it's the way it is.

NRS is never going to make the exact MK of your dreams. If they did, they would make 1 sale. You. Maybe. lol

Adding Kratos in my opinion makes MK look like its desperate to sell. Street Fighter proved it was number one by surviving on its own with SF4 and SSF4 why couldn't MK do the same? I hate to say I'm pissed but I am. I do think that in the end it will help sells by adding Kratos but I think it ruins the whole nostalgia vibe of the game.

Sure, some cat who's last MK experience was UMK3 may think Kratos is a good addition; so what? If he wasn't going to buy the game before, Kratos isn't going to change that. It didn't work for Soul Calibur, at least. It makes sense, really: there are three prominent GoW games out there, and if someone wants to see Kratos, there are already plenty of outlets to make his inclusion to MK superfluous.

Ice Baby brought up some interesting points, but she also said her opinion was influenced by indifference towards other character candidates. But what if you ARE a Rain fan? What if you ARE a Sheeva fan? Are those fans just fucked?

blackcyborg, I think u r right on that one. As someone mentioned before, this is "the only selfish move" they have done so far to get more audience.Everything we want in this game is there, and everything we dont want is fixed (for example, last Shao Kahn render,no?)
Personally me,I don't care about Kratos being in the game,as long as he doesn't mess with storyline and don't get anybody's place and spotlight.I m actually God of War fan,but I m Mortal Kombat fan from the beginning,so I want it to be the best of the best...As everybody else here...If adding Kratos means maximize the succes of the game,so be it.
You know what's funny?

A lot of Bitching Moaning and Crying in CAPS LOCK in these Kratos Topics.

Oddly enough the majority is not the people who don't want him in.

Well if you're a fan of Rain or Sheeva than you have poor taste to begin with, but that's besides the point. Plus, as long as there are no hiccups like MKvsDC, then you can expect new characters and such to appear as DLC anyway, so I don't see the problem with that. Let's say your favorite character is Kenshi, should you feel fucked because he's not in this game? Or Nitara? Because they certainly aren't going to be part of the main roster either. I still say that people need to use common sense and wait until the full roster is revealed before saying "Well this character could've been in it if Kratos wasn't". Personally, I think most of the characters in the post MK3 era were junk anyway and nobody would miss them if they never showed up again.

I still say Kratos has no bearing on this. First of all he's a guest character. By definition he is a "guest". When you have a guest over for dinner, do you make one of the people who lives in your house leave the table? Of course not, you pull up another chair. Anyone who thinks Kratos being in this game affects the chances of relatively unpopulars like Rain and Sheeva is kidding themselves.

Rain and Sheeva always were on the brink of not making this game. They are not very well liked and in Rain's case considered a bit of the joke by the development team themselves. If that recent leak is to be taken to heart, Quan Chi is "taking" a spot as well. We've known all along crucial storyline and popular characters like Quan Chi just may make their way into this game despite its pre MK4 origins. They aren't going to be left out because of Kratos, they are going to be left out because they are the runts of the litter in MK Trilogy.

Honestly, I'm a bit sick of nostalgia. I still think this looks like the best MK game since MK:DA, as in, I haven't been excited for once as much since then. Gameplay wise it looks leagues above any other game in the series, but the whole "let's live in 1993 forever" thing is tired. We have Shaolin Monks, we had MK vs. DC Universe, both games featured nothing but "old classics". My favorite part of MK:DA and MK:D's lead ins were the new characters, and wondering what older favorites might return from a layover. This is a roster we 95% know for sure, the exception being whether or not certain unloved characters make the cut or not. Kratos brings in a splash of life; I am looking forward to seeing how he plays, because we have no real way of knowing. I am looking forward to his special moves, because we have no clear way of guessing. With a character like Kabal, who we all know is in the game, we know exactly what to expect already. He will fight with his hookswords, he will do a fatality involving them, he will fire a ball of energy out of his face, he will have his forward dash/spin, etc. With Kratos, nothing is for sure yet, and that is what has me the most interested. I finally have something to look forward to that isn't totally predictable.

I've stated my piece elsewhere. I disapprove of his inclusion and hope he's just a gamestop preorder exclusive so I can ignore him if I so choose.

That said, this isn't going to ruin MK2011 for me, and it shouldn't for anyone else.

Also sure as hell isn't going to get me interested in the GOW series anytime soon.

Being that I have a Xbox 360, I simply don't have to worry about facing Kratos. But the whole idea of having him in the game is kinda disappoints me. As a fan of GOW and Kratos, I think this sounds awesome if you make a picture of it, but putting him in the game that's trying to redeem itself doesn't really make it look great. Kratos can fit in the MK due to the fact that he's an angry bastard trying to tear everyone limp from limp but I personally don't want at this moment, same applies to the Xbox 360 if they plan on having a Xbox exclusive character. Boy this whole thing is making me wanna create a fighting game, if only I knew how. I'm still buying it, even though Kratos's on there on PS3 and not for xbox 360.

That's what most of us are.

I mean like MK's gameplay is not 3D anymore and it looks awesome, this time we have REAL fatalities (after MKA's Kreate A Fatality and MKvsDCU's ''Fatalities''), the roster consists of every single iconic character (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, etc. And those who think Liu Kang will not appear are just idiots.), the graphics are superb and the blood looks like blood for once, they are putting classic stages for the nostalgia whores, the new super bar and X-Rays attacks are a great addition, but none of that matter because Kratos is going to appear, Kratos is only a freaking extra!

Crow said it very nicely.

I can't understand the complaints about this game -- any complaints, whatsoever, unless it's very constructive criticism on the gameplay aspects. This is the BEST game of MK I've seen since the 90's games.

MK:DA, MK:D, and MK:A all looked really ridiculous to me. The graphics were terrible and the fighting looked clumpy with zero gravity. They were so slow and the combos didn't connect all that well like the 90's games did. It just looked way too animated for me and cartoon-ish. The blood looked horrifically bad. I don't see how anyone could look back at those games and say, "Wow, this looked good and badass." I just could never, ever get into the 3D games.

The new technology they're using to make this game looks so much more realistic, especially the blood and attention to detail to their body damages and clothes.

I couldn't care if Rain or Sheeva make the game or not. This is already shaping up to be the best game in MK history. I've never been this excited for MK since MK Trilogy.

Yeah, we ARE the most important and we should be focused on when making the game. That's not to say that they should make the WHOLE game around out wants and desires. Even though we know the most about MK and have given the most time into the product, we collectively don't bring them the most money. They still need to add in stuff that casual fans and gamers can get into. That's how ALL games work. If they are wanting millions of sales, they need to have some stuff to appeal to millions of gamers. Kratos appeals to A LOT of people, some MK fans, and a lot of gamers in general.

It's not all about sales either. the MK team are gamers themselves. It's THEIR game, so if they like Kratos as a character, and they want him in the game, they have every right to put him in there. They love playing the game too, so it's completely understandable why they'd want his inclusion. They don't take the game as seriously as some of you diehard fans that are super picky and strict in what you want from the game. They focus on making it as fun as possible. Kratos being included IS fun and interesting to a lot of people. Maybe you don't see it as much on here obviously, but this announcement has gotten a lot of favorable comments and excitement on gaming sites and anyone I have told it to.
