Okay, hear me out on this one. I've been browsing the capcom-unity.com forums, specifically the "Complaint Thread" and oh boy, is it a big one. You can check it out here. (At page 20 people who have actually bought and played the game start in.)

-People feel like they're playing a beta.
-There seems to be tons of problems with online.
-Some characters seem way too powerful. (I see a lot of people mention Sentinel.)
-Matchmaking doesn't work well
-Not a lot of game modes
-Terrible story (or lack thereof)
-DLC that someone has gone and proved was already on the disc, as a finshed product or about 98% finished.
-$5 for one character of aforementioned DLC
-A DLC costume pack announced the day after the release date.
-It goes on and on...

Well, does anyone else think that this is the time for the new MK to steal some of the spotlight? I mean, from what we've seen so far in the videos NRS has released, it already seems that:

-It looks like it will be more complete on release.
-There will be some great game modes.
-The story is already better.

Obviously I can't comment on DLC or online/matchmaking/balancing issues right now, but as I see it this new MK is going to be everything MvC3 isn't right now.

Please no flamming, Capcom fans.

MK2011 will destroy this game, I've been playing MvsC3 since it's release on Tuesday and honestly it's not very good, I've almost got 1000/1000 GS on it already, anyway that's besides the point. This game was rushed, it's incomplete, very lacking in every category, there's what? 7 or 8 stages? It's pretty imbalanced as well.

Also I noticed Capcom copying things from MK, there's a stage that has retarded looking moaning trees from the likes of The Living Forest, set in a Graveyard. Way to go Capcom.

MK2011 > MvsC3 ten fold.

It's possible I suppose. I think MvC3 and MK have been and are subject to being over-hyped. Honestly, in my opnion anyways, MvC3 failed to live up to the hype that was built around it. Not saying it's a bad game, it's a decent game, it's just not what a lot of people hoped it would be.

MK can suffer the same fate. I guess we have to wait and see where they land. The game will either live up to the hype or fall short at this point. I can't see them surpassing it too much(Possible but not by much).

Also keep in mind this is an MK forum and we're all a little biased towards MK. They hype needs to be met by casual gamers and fighting gamers alike. Most MK fans are already satisfied knowing characters have fatalities again, and that there's going to be lots of blood, but for people on the fence about MK it's not a done deal and NRS has to prove that they can stand with the best by making a fighting game made for the best.

Take what the fighting genre standard is atm and push further, give more, and fans will respond. Come up with less and we end up with games like MKA and MKvDC.

Really, the hair is all that matters to me, too.

As an MK purist, I cannot stand how crappy the hair physics are.

MvC3 for me, all day, every day. I'm done with MK, and NRS!

Played it and it is hectic as all hell. Dante has too much priority, Sentinel has stupid damage, the Hulks are tough, Morrigan is cheapish, Zero is hard to rush down, constant spamming online. Other than that it's fun, not as fun as MVC2 was, but I'm enjoying the matchups. Just hate that it's missing spectator mode and a actual story. MK is going to easily overtake it. Even now that Ed Boon took interest into buying MvC3 just to get a hands on feel of what they are up against. MK2011 looks solid already.

Can't speak for most, but it DEFINITELY will in my home... I got MVC3 on it's release and postponed playing it to see the Noob Saibot trailer like 10 times.

A possibility, although unlikely. It's more likely MvC3 will just die without a major shift in playerbase. Mortal Kombat doesn't have the best reputation amongst fighting game circles as it currently stands, but some of the less stubborn Capcom fans might change their tune if the game turns out to be a success in the comp scene.

I rented MvC3, and let me tell you it's no where near the Intensity MvC2 was. Yea the Combos and stuff are really flashy and cool. But the Specials seem so limited for the characters and The Story mode is so SHORT. Like an Arcade ladder last 10 or 15 mins tops depending on your Hand-Eye Coordination. I'm not saying the game is bad, but no where near as Enjoyable as MK9 will be. My opinion of course.

I agree. I have a tight knit of fighting game fans who use to despise MK, but they're eager for this new game to come out, it looks too good to pass up!

I'm surprised to hear MvC3 even has a storyline. The last one didn't, I kinda figured that was the series' whole thing, "there's no explanation for the crossover, no canon to worry about, it's just a pile of mascots."

Capcom didnt copy anything,Ghouls n Ghosts already had a living forest back in 88,check your things before posting crap. And if we go for copying,MK is full of shit,Scorpion: Ghost Rider,Mk Story: Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" Movie and some things like Shan Tsung looking mysteriously like Lo Pan from "Big Trouble in Little China" and many more....fanboys.

Mortal Kombat typically outsells its competition. It's outsold Soul Calibur, Tekken, Blazblue, Virtua Fighter, King of Fighters, Dead or Alive, and even Street Fighter itself in many instances. It's quality may have been less, but it's popularity far exceeded many other cherished fighting games.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 I think will be a hit, but I think it'll be like Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy XIII, both of which sold many copies but ultimately left many fans disappointed, disillusioned, and ultimately craving something far more substantial.

We already know for a FACT that MK9's story mode will kick the crap out of MvC3's. It already has far more stages and extras. It looks like it's trying much harder to be balanced.

Also, the BIGGEST thing, is that MK9 looks like the perfect, nostalgic fan-service. MvC3's sheer existence was celebrated, but beyond the always popular Spider-man, Wolverine, and Ryu, and a remake of "Take You For A Ride", MvC3 actually is one of the LEAST fan-service friendly games ever made. The character roster is missing icons like Mega Man, previously playable and popular characters like Cyclops, Venom, and Strider, completely ignored the huge, unanimous demand for Phoenix Wright and Frank West's inclusions, and instead turned into a vehicle to shill out extremely recent characters with moderate to poor popularity. Who wanted X-23 in over Elektra or Pslocke? Who wanted THREE characters from Resident Evil 5? Why is Trish in the game? Of all the legendary Street Fighters, would anyone have picked Crimson Viper over the likes of Cammy, Guile, or even Alex? There wasn't a single person on the PLANET that wanted that damn "wife-arm" version of Nathan "Rad" Spencer.

MvC3 seems less like a game made for fans of the prior games and more as a marketing gimmick to push characters Marvel's got new comics coming out for, and Capcom just totally seemed to blank on the fact they have over two decades of amazing game history to drawn from (no characters from Strider? Dino Crisis? Monster Hunter? Breath of Fire? Power Stone? Lost Planet? Dead Rising? Phoenix Wright? God Hand? Killer 7? P.N.03? Onimusha?)

Ultimately, I see more people gravitating to MK9. Mortal Kombat is still popular amongst general consumers, it already has a very loyal fanbase that'll buy even some of the worst games (MK: Armageddon was quite successful), and more and more fighting game fans are taking an interest in this game, while being disappointed by MvC3. That's a great chance to pick up those disillusioned fighting game fans.

We'll see, though. It's a gonna be a good competition, but either way, I think we MK fans are in for a real treat.

I loved the old MvC games but this one is just lacking, when i play it I don't even enjoy it because I just think of how much more fun MK looks. I'll be taking it to trade it in on monday for credit towards my MK pre order. I know MvC hasn't really had a story in the past but this is a new time and more is expected IMO. That's one reason I love the MK series, it has a story!! lol even though they put some silly things in sometimes at least there is a mythology to it and I appreciate that they take the time to do that.

I'm more then positive MK9 will steal MvC3's spotlight. I haven't played the game yet, though I've been wanting too, but all I've been hearing is negative things about it. 7-8 stages? Is that a joke? lol. This isn't 1993, there's no excuse for them to have so little stages. So far MK has confirmed almost 20? That's a legit number.

I've seen the gameplay, and it really does look fun. But I find it too be wayyyyyyyyyyy and I cant express this enough, wayyyyyyy too flashy for my likings. Also, the characters I think have no personality. I seen a video, I can't recall who it was but it was some skull looking guy (not too good with superheroes), but you'd think at the end of the match you'd think he'll say some badass line, but he said 'Oh I Couldn't Even Show You All My Moves!'. 'The fuck?

Also, I hate the constant talking in that game. It's the same lines over and over again. It get's annoying, quick.

The lack of game modes is pretty dissapointing too. A game the features such powerhouses from Marvel and Capcom, could have such a great storymode. I guess not.

MK9 just looks more solid, more serious, more exciting, more mature, more fun I think, way better graphics, and the level of detail is way more on point in everything (characters, arenas).

Had we contiplated this argument months ago, I would have said...prob. not just based off of how well MvC seems to be received, and how MK is looked down upon in the "hardcore" department. However, it seems like MvC3 really didn't go above and beyond, and seemed to deliver the bare minimum. Not that the game is bad, but from everything I have seen in terms of people's impressions, the game just hasn't fulfilled their desires for the most part. I'm no expert on MvC, and have never really been a fan of the series, but months ago it seemed like MvC3 was all the rage. Now...not so much. MK definitely has a legitimate shot. It's been extremely well received at any showing it has done, and if they deliver everything that seemes like they are going to have, then I would say yes, it will overtake MvC3 when released.

It's just loaded with awesome content. It also helps that MK has had lower expectations from the past 10 years in most people's eyes who aren't diehard MK fans, whereas MvC2 was an extrmely popular game. So if MK knocks it out of the park, it'll make MvC3 look more like a ground roll double. Here's hoping...
