I would like to make another rant.

Okay, so I spoke about how Tanya should have different moves. She creates fireballs; leave fire for Scorpion. She can become invisible; leave that to Reptile. She has a front-flip kick; leave flip kicks to Sonya Blade. Her special moves all originate from really well-known and popular MK characters.

Kira is someone I would like to rant about. Like Tanya, Kira deserves totally new special moves. She has Sonya's Kiss of Death and Kano's cannonball technique. Her only original move is her Night Shade, and the smoke created by the Night Shade looks similar to the smoke created from the Kiss of Death.

I would like to rant about Frost, as well. Frost is pretty much a female version of Sub-Zero; she has one original move: her Ground Freeze. She has Sub-Zero's Slide technique, his Ice Puddle Technique, and a technique similar to Scorpion's Teleport Punch. Frost should have more original moves if she is to ever gain any popularity, to be honest, since she is practically a female version of one of the most well-known (if not the most well known) and popular characters in all of Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat does not have very many playable female characters; there are twelve playable female characters (thirteen if you count Khameleon). Sonya Blade, Kitana, Mileena, Sindel, Jade, Sheeva, Sareena, Ashrah, Kira, Tanya, Li Mei, Nitara, and Frost. I personally think that if the producers are going to make Mortal Kombat so male-dominated, then at least make each female as unique and original as possible.

Wow, some of you guys are complaining about shit that has nothing to do with THIS game and about characters that are not even confirmed yet and have no chance in hell making it in. If you wanna create fantasy character bio,personality,movelist suggestions, don't do it in here,

Why do all the females look like they are built off of the same model? Why are they skinny at their knee?

This whole game seems like a waste of time in terms of story. Seriously, we go back to MK1-MKT again for the 3rd time in a row? All Raiden has to do is send a mental message back to myself to “fix” things. Hell, he could have done that years ago. So this pretty much means, when ever things go wrong again, we will just end up at Mortal Kombat 1 again, right? Again this is just another cheap way in not moving foward with the series. Ever since MK: Deception Mortal Kombat has done was stay in the past over user of returning characters and stages.


The game play may be good, but the game reeks of unoriginal that comes with reboot. Why couldn't the MK team relaunch the series like they did with Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, the last MK game that took a bold new direction with the series?

Putting guest characters in the MK series is another aspect, that upsets me. Why can't Mortal Kombat just be Mortal Kombat? I hope Xbox version is guest character free.

Overall I'm upset this the first MK game since Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance that has a focus on gameplay, and the other half of the game is based off old storylines that ended YEARS ago.

Its a fighting game, who gives a FK what the story is. Character A beats up character B. come on now.

Stop complaining about the characters. If you liked any MK passed the 3rd one, you got problems... Go play marvel or samurai showdown or something. for reals. This game has been all about MK 1 and 2. That's it. PERIOD. the only reason anyone likes the MK series is because what it brought to fighting games. Gamers got tired of bullsh-t street fighter and wanted to see GORE and FATALITIES. bottom line. I remember waiting in lines just to play the first two games at the arcade and didnt mind watching other guys who were better than me and knew all the fatalities.

Everything I have seen from this new version is more than I could have ever hoped to bring life back into this series. And obviously I wasn't the only one thinking that way. bring it back to 2d format with 3 d graphics. make some real FATALITIES again. Bring the bridge back with the spikes, make sure it has all the characters from the first 2. I love the fact that they took the Mortal Kombat most of us remember, and re-made it.

I just dont see there being anything to RANT about this game yet... I have not played it.... I dont know how many of you have... I dont even know when the game comes out... But when I do, Im definitely shelling out to buy this version.

Look man, MK is Enter the Dragon. I'm sorry if i missed any lore passed the first 2 because as far as game play characters and story and what not. I just became disinterested in it. in all honesty it was too much BS for ME. that is a rant.

I stumbled across this board because I was looking for wallpapers of the new game I could stroke one out too. this new game looks bad ass and has brought me back into this beloved series.

I got heated when i saw people with stupid rants. but that's not nice to say because it is only there opinion, and to each his own. i couldn't believe any one would diss this version or have beef with it. but nothing is without its flaws.

I hate to break it to you, but Mortal Kombat has grown since Mortal Kombat 2, which is one of the most over rated games of all time. Mortal Kombat 2 is a good game, but again the series has grown. Even not counting the 3-D games, it still grew with the MK3 series.

Only mainstream/ casual gamers only cared about Mortal Kombat’s fatalities or played the game just do them. Mortal Kombat has always had its fair share of hardcore players that play the game, to see what they can do. Seriously who plays Mortal Kombat just to perform fatalities? Myself I’ve always been of those gamers/MK fans who can take my chosen fighter to the limit of what he or she can do.

Mortal Kombat 3 (the series) out classed MK2 the second it arcades, more so when it came to gameplay. It may not be a better game from your point of view, but you could do far more in the MK3 series than you could in MK1 or MK2. Also the "fast pace" gameplay of the series came from MK3.

Hell isn’t it an irony that the mainstream , including Mortal Kombat Online after all these years now say that consider Mortal Kombat 3 apart of MK 'glory' days, before this game announcement it was hated by most mainstream MK fans aka fans who only like Mortal Kombat 1 and 2.

Also, speak for yourself. I love Mortal Kombat because of the combination of the storylines, game play, and characters. I couldn't care less about fatalities. I want to see Mortal Kombat evolve into uncharted terrorty. Like the mainstream media in film I am tired of all these reboots. It’s like saying “ Ok we’ve ran out of ideas. Lets take someone else’s work from 12 years ago and put our spin on it, instead of doing creative that would expand the series , for both new and old fans of the series”.

This so called reboot, is just another example of how the MK team has been playing it safe for the last 6 years. Rehashing old ideas, and stages with modern tech. The gameplay looks amazing, but why after 2 Mortal Kombat games in row ( MK: Deception, Mortal Kombat Armageddon), already with a heavy emphasis of Mortal Kombat 1 ,2 and 3 are we going back again?

Why not relaunch the series new half new characters and a new threat?

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance was the last REAL ORGINAL Mortal game. The last MK game that stood on its own with expanding the series. All other MK games since then have played it safe, which all other MK games since after Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance have been so unoriginal and boring, save for Mortal Kombat Armageddon’s air combat which was a pretty good idea.

In the new interview with Ed Boon, he admitted the they had no clue on what to do next with the storyline. They just took the easy way out again, and returned to the old stuff from MK past again for a 4 time in a row.


One last thing before I go, more so toward any people saying this game is pretty much Mortal Kombat 1 ,2 , and 3. You are wrong. The only good thing to me at least about this game is that it will be Mortal Kombat full circle in terms of game play. In case you haven’t noticed This game’s game play is going to be a combination of every MAIN Mortal Kombat game ever created(minus MK vs DC). Sure the game play may be 2-D, but the fighting seems to be more kin the faster pace of the 2-D games most the MK3 series, but adds the specific move attacks introduced in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. The concept of combo breakers( the only thing that Deception did are far as game play that was new) Also the air combat in this game is a improved version from what we saw in MK Armageddon. Lastly of the power meter from MK vs DCU is back , but of course improved.
MK 2011 - Presentation = MK1-MK3 Gameplay - = Every MK created and new stuff.

So all those saying this is a pure MK1-MK3, based on those games, better understand that MK 2011 is a result of every Mortal Kombat created both 2-D and 3-D, with a emphasis of game play. Everything that we’ve seen is what MK team has done, but a better and refined version of what we saw from previous games.

I don't like that this game is going to have console exclusive characters as it could effect it's credibility as a competative fighting game. Also this mortal kombat is suposed to be a return to it's roots so having characters from other franchises in there seems tacky.

But having kratos in the next mk has helped this game get alot more publicity. I remember seeing it in newspaper because of kratos and all the GOW fans will most likely get this. They need good publicity alot due to the franchise loosing popularity over the years and the new generation of gamers who have never heard of mortal kombat. if this turns out to be an amazing popular fighting game then we can hope to see more amazing mk games in the future

They lied to us. Ed boon said they where going back to the roots, i dont remember kratos been in MK1,2, or 3. in a slightly related topic fuck kratos!!

I'd like to rant on the community real quick.

There are a lot of you who need to chill the fuck out about new information. NRS is going to release what they want to reveal to us before the game comes out, and that's about it. Don't see your favorite confirmed character in any of these videos? Don't like it? Tough shit. You'll find out when the game releases. You all should know by now that we're going to be getting Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, and eventually Raiden and Shao Kahn, because those are the characters on the official site. To be asking for anyone else to get the same treatment is downright foolish. I mean, seriously people, you don't see me asking where the hell Ermac is at every damn turn, do you?

Relax.

Now the game looks amazing and I can't wait. And I'm not necessarily "looking" for things that bug me, but to pass time, I shall post about the one thing that has urked a nerve. That being said...
This is probably the only thing I can be at ease ranting about at this point...

Does anyone else not like Kitana's and Mileena's stance?
I definitely think they should of kept their debut stances (MK2) or even just a slight variation of that. Mileena looks like she's holding a fake dancing partner (go figure), and Kitana looks as if she has IBS.
These are the ONLY stances I have issues with (although Sub-Zero's needs some tweaking, but I'm not that picky.)

Excited as fuck for the game. But I agree with most, seems kinda clunky, like Deadly Alliance on. Don't care to much for Reptile. Pretty happy that I pre-ordered mine so I get the classic Scorpion. As far as fatalities go I think they are really good, Sektor's is kind of lame. The biggest problem I have is Shao Kahn's voice. I loved it in Deception and Armageddon but if this is a going retro it needs to be like MK II and 3 not this cross between DC Universe and Shalion Monks shit. I really don't like the fact that the Pit II has the Pit's fatality. Johnny with the "Johnny" across his chest is not nessasary but I like it cause he is a Johnny Cage. I am think the X-Ray mode is a cool new feature, I hope they bring back Test Your Might. Like the Orginal, it was kool in Deadly Alliance and I think it would be even better in this. I have a few problems with this game but I'd just rant about one:

The Character Design Sucks!!!

Sure, MK always had problems with character design. Back in the day, ninja sprites were just color swaps and Jax wore silly purple thighs. Times were simple, one can forgive the silly stuff. But for me, the game never got over that... Take aside the fact women still look like cheap sluts, you look at a character and you can't see what he's supposed to be. Clothing's got more intricate, it has more details and better textures, it has little things hanging here and there, but in the end of the day, they don't get the characters. It's nothing new, but the year is 2011 and we have all kinds of other games that moved on.

Let's take Scorpion for example. The name is silly, but Scorpion is a lot more famous than "Sasori", so they should keep it or fans would go insane. So who is Scorpion? He's a demon/ninja of Japanese origin, who has harpoon and can burn people. .Now look at the guy's model. What can you tell from his design? Can you tell he's a ninja? I guess, though with that shiny rubber hood he looks more like a scuba diver or some lame superhero. Can you tell he's some kind of undead demon-like spectre who can throw fire? I sure can't. Can you tell he's Japanese? Is there anything from his clothes that even hints that? How about the harpoon? Anything to suggest he has one? No, not really. All his clothes give you is the fact he's a ninja and he's into bugs. You might say that's a bad example... but they do that with every character. They take 1 single thing (ninja, indian, ninja, hooker, reptile, ninja) and build the entire character design based on that ignoring almost everything else about the character - the backstory, personality, place of origin, allies and powers. Shouldn't people from Outworld or Edenia have different fashion styles? I've seen better designs on this forum and that makes me sad. But enough about that...

Another thing is really bugging me. Remember Armageddon? Well, some might say the game wasn't too great, but it had a pretty cool feature - the Kreate-A-Fighter Mode. You unlocked various clothing and made your own character. The feature had its flaws, everyone knows that - you could only save 1 character per Memory Card and the females looked like weird mutant Bratz dolls. But it was a cool feature, no one can deny that. Now why didn't they take that concept and improve it for this title? Maybe KAF is too much to ask for. Instead, why not at least let the players unlock different items for the playable characters... For example, doing some kind of combo or fatality unlocks a an army jacket for Jax, bionic arms, a berret, sunglasses or whatever else that you can combine as you wish to give Jax a new look. Customizable characters. It's nothing new. We've seen it in Tekken 5. So why not here? And we get DLC characters and costumes we must pay extra for? Bullcrap.

I won't even talk about X-Rays and Fatalities because this rant's already a huge wall of text no one's going to read.

If there are MK fans who would "love to see" him, they're also a part of that fanboy subset. Real MK fans do not want to see him or anyone else who doesn't belong.

As I've said before, in various places, for all the people who think it's okay for a game franchise to sell out and include these retarded guest characters (Though granted, Kratos is at least [i]somewhat[/i] fitting with MK's theme, making him slightly better than say, Darth Vader), so that NRS and Ed Boon can increase their profit margins, would you be okay with them including the Sex and the City women in order to appeal to the large female demographic? A long run-on sentence there, but I hope you get my point. Guest characters are there for no reason other than to increase a game's appeal to a different group of fanboys/girls. Soul Calibur did it with their retarded Star Wars cross over, and in a previous game, they did it with Link from Legend of Zelda and Spawn. "Unfortunately" games are all about profits and stuffy old geezers in suits and frigid women discussing the first quarter fiscal budget in the board room, more than they're about creating something really great and artistic and memorable, so "unfortunately" we have to put up with this crap, but we don't have to like it.

So unless you really would be okay with NRS throwing in whatever BS characters will help them make a quick buck, (MK vs. Sex and the City / Harry Potter / Super Mario / DC Universe (oh wait...)) then there's really no other way to take these guest characters than a big nasty spit in the face to the game's real fans.
