Looks like there will be 16 - 24 playable characters as well.

You can see 12, and easily see there is a row beneath that, and possibly another row below that.

We can also confirm thus far the following characters

1. Scorpion
2. Sub Zero
3. Kung Lao
4. Johny Cage
5. Reptile
6. Mileena
7. Sektor
8. Nightwolf

And if you go by the casting call and other reports

9. Kitanna
10. Sonya
11. Shang Tsung
12. Jade
13. Jax ( Though I believe JRF said something about Red Robots are cool but special forces with bionic arms are not , confirming Sektor but not Jax so thats tentative )

So If we assume this game really is a retelling of the original trilogy , I guess the remaining characters would be

14. Raiden
15. Kano
16. Baraka
17. Cyrax
18. Smoke
19. Liu Kang
20. Sheeva
21. Sindel
22. Stryker
23. Kabal
24. Noob Saibot

The only remaining characters would be Rain, Ermac and the bosses, though anyone of these characters could be interchanged into the roster, not to mention their could be more than 24 playable characters.

And what about new characters? I NEED NEW CHARACTERS! (And some from MK4-MKAr era)

Judging from the size of the character select boxes I'd guess there were about 24/28 characters.
I'd think the character select screen is just temporary tho cos its pretty barebones.

Are we only going to be able to enjoy the 3D if we only have a TV that is 3D enabled? I ask cause it just seems like a waste when like 98% of gamers and ppl don't have those 3D tv's.

I have experienced a 3D tv. not really that great, but that little bit changes alot and my fanboy is coming out.
EDIT: 26 character slots on select screen, one for Random and one for DLC. 4 x 7 grid.

26 slots means every single character from Trilogy can fit except C/Khameleon, with Goro, Kintaro, Motaro, and Shao Kahn being non-playable or made unlockable/DLC later.
