Exactly Anyone who supports this is part of the problem. this is nothing but corporate greed. Who the hell buys a game used when its only like $55, $58 at gamestop? Hardly anyone.

This effects a huge group of people.

1. People who rent games like me. I rented UFC2010, Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 and Need For Speed and I couldnt even play the game online cause of this bullshit online pass crap. Im not going to pay $10 to try a MAJOR part of the game that im renting.

2. Yes it effects people who buy the game used. However what happens if im not that big of an MK fan and decide to buy the game used in 2 years when its like $30. Why the fuck should I have to pay an extra $10 to play a MAJOR part of a game that has been out for 2+ years.

I swear the argument that "if you buy it used they don't get anything" is getting old yet it seems the only one people use to defend this. How does a game become used? someone buys it new. When that happens...the company gets their money for that copy. Now, if that person decides to sell it they no longer have it. That copy has not multiplied and the company still has their cut from that copy. (piracy is a different matter)

Another question this raises is...what about rentals? A lot of people rent games to try them out. What if someone rents, for example, MK and is on the fence about buying it...well, if i were them I'd want to see how the multiplayer works since that's a big part of it...oh wait...NOPE can't do that.

and as someone else said, the story mode of games is getting shorter and shorter in favor of multiplayer...so the actual work going into these things is getting less and less. yet they demand more money to play the only worthwhile part of most new games.

Maybe if the economy wasn't a total goat fuck this would fly better, but as it is some of us have bills to pay and even an extra 10 bucks ain't gonna happen.

i dont think you read the whole thing it said you get a 2 day free trial first........this is for people that rent

Uhm...when you rent it, you CAN try out the multiplayer. You get a free two day trial. That should be perfectly fine for an "on-the-fence" rental.

How many 2 day free trials do they get? One per copy? so the first renter is in luck, but not the subsequent renters? I mean, i guess it could go by console tags or whatever...but still...this is more than just WB or MK...this is a trend. Not all seem to have the trial period. I mean, I'm all for companies making money...and i agree in principal to the "don't like it don't buy it argument" but its just irksome to me. Okay, I'm done ranting. There are other more pressing things to be pissed about.

With the way most tech works these days, the two day trial is probably on a system to system basis.

Wow 2 full days! I mean people totally dont have lives outside of gaming like school, work and friend. That could totally get me like 4-6 hours tops of online time once I actually activate the online pass

So, in the event that a developer suffered financial hardship as a result of rampant piracy and second-hand circumvention, would you be willing to pay twice, or three times the expected price? I can't help but imagine you'd keep doing the same thing. Because this isn't about right and wrong, it's about trying to get crap for cheap. Unfortunately, noone is obligated to incur losses because you can't wait to be able to afford it. Not that a ten dollar pass code is really going to set you back too long, if you're already making regular visits to the Gamespot.

More than likely that it's relevant to each user utilizing the disc, not the disc itself. So everyone playing it for the first time will have the two day trial.

It wont matter to me but i wanna know is where will you obtain this pass? will gamestop give it to you with the game? Will it be on the marketplace? Can you use the same code if you trade games with someone?.......I see alot of people gonna be selling passes on ebay for the low. or maybe gamestop will reduce the used game price and tack on the 10 bucks so it can even out the same amount anyway...(i doubt it tho lol)

The code should already be in the game case and it'll be on a sheet of paper with the code on the front or back. It's what THQ did with WWE SvR 2011.

And for everyone saying, "I was going to wait two to three years", it'll most likely be down to around $30.00 NEW at that point. And after reading most of this thread, I take back what I said about how developers shouldn't be targeting the consumers of aftermarket games. You all sound so fucking entitled that you deserve whatever they do to you.

You people are not discussing your OWN greed. You talk about big game companies being greedy for what they're doing, what about Gamestop and EB making all this money off used games?! What about you trying to get **** for the low? It's a freaking material possession, you'll live If you don't get it. Companies want to maximize profits, what's new?!

I wonder if the trial has to be 2 consecutive days...

Anyhow the demo was leaked to hell and back so I'm sure legit 'codes' will be found everywhere on the Internet after a few days.

I've already pre-ordered this puppy so I'm not arguing for me necessarily, and a lot of anger was knee jerk reaction...But the fact is they're acting like the used market is new and threatening. Used games, movies, coffee makers, pets...ALL been around since someone first sold a possession. Nobody's ever gone under because of that "new fangled used market" You see the numbers of copies the game sold...those were all NEW. nothing is made "used". So x number of copies is made, y number is sold...maybe z number of people have owned it at some point, but the number of people who have real copies of the game is always Y. nobody's circumventing anything or doing anything that is not within their rights. Should car companies charge a couple hundred for a code to start up the car once its sold 2nd hand? NO of course not! And EB and Gamestop are not the ONLY places that sell used games. A lot of mom and pop stores exist, as well as person to person sales in person, between friends or even on ebay. Should they be punished because of EB and Gamestop's greed?

Doesn't really work that way. They're one time use codes.

They're trying to close the disparity between "z" and "y". If z=y, rather than z>y, they wouldn't do this.

Fine, I get that, but a lot of people wouldn't buy a game they're not too sure of NEW for 60 bucks. Its not like this is the scourge of industries everywhere...Maybe they offer a buyback program and then offer "certified" used copies if they want to try to recoup some losses. Some people are acting like its a criminal act to buy a used game! If i'm bored and near a used game store, I'll pop in and see if there are any good used dvds, brays or games...maybe i'll spend 20 bucks on a game, play it for the night and forget about it. I sure as hell wouldn't make such an idle decision if it were 60 dollars!

4-6 hours is plenty of time to see how well the online portion functions.

I dont get the sense of entitlement here. You guys do realize it costs money to maintain Servers, right? It makes perfect sense to have to pay for online usage if you bought a second hand copy, considering that WB & NRS dont see any money from those purchases otherwise.

I don't mind it at all. People who buy the game new deserve to be rewarded, and they are actually helping the industry. If you buy it used, then you probably don't care enough about the game to even play online, IMO. I do think the used game market should be alive and well, but I don't like used games being sold as soon as the game is out and it is readily available. Used game sales should be for people who are looking to get their feet wet with an old ip, or are trying to get a hard to find game.

So yah I'm fine with this. However, if there is any dlc on the disc then I'm gonna be pissed. Other than that this game can do no wrong. Except for Smoke's hair.

Dude,I'm buying the KE and the TE new,and I'm still pissed off about this.

It's an underhanded business practice, and I hope it comes back to bite WB in the ass.

Oh well. Even if I do buy the PS3 eventually,I'll take comfort in the fact that it's not the version I'll be playing online anyway.

Yup exactly. I hope WB just realized that the number of new copies sold just TANKED and the number of torrented copies just went through the roof.
