Truthfully I've always been of the opinion that only stupid people trade used games into gamestop in the first place...

Gee, I can can get $40 for this game on ebay... but no... better to trade it to Gamestop for $15... so they can sell it for $45...

Car companies dont typically give extended service to used buyers.

Builders are only on the hook for faulty work.

Yes not typically but some do, in fact my girl friend just got a used car and the extended service is still good.

That what you call a perk, its unreasonable to expect that from every product. And like i said, maintaining servers costs money. If its a second hand copy then WB is paying for you to play online. If they dont see any profit from a certain buyer then they dont owe that buyer anything.

Yes you have a good point and that's why I use eBay more then anything.
That's capitalism at it's finest.

I think it needs to be mentioned that WB isn't obligated to distribute their games to Gamestop's around the world. But because Gamestop is such a big retailer, WB decides to keep selling their products to them. If WB and other game companies don't like their business practices about Gamestop selling used games, then simple; don't sell to them. But that's not gonna happen, because WB of course want's a piece of the pie just like everybody else.

@TREX

I don't know how expensive a game is in your country, but here in America $60 is a good price for a game that will give you at least 40 or 50 hours. For me probably 120 or so. Paying full price for a game doesn't make me a rich prick as you say. However, saving 5 bucks at fucking gamestop and screwing over the company that is actually making the game series we love seems like bull shit to me. If 5 extra bucks means a lot to me then I think I need to get my priorities straight. Such as getting a job and buying the game once I have sufficient funds. This poor man argument since completely void to me.

Now this interests me. I've been wondering why Video Game devs haven't cracked down on this. Can't they form a trust like the MPAA or something?

You could say that Gamestop's business practice is somewhat similar to a pawn shop except it's for a specific product. What Gamestop is doing isn't illegal, but because used games are so much cheaper (usually) and Gamestop makes 100% profit from selling them, the publishers and devs don't get a dime since their revenue stream comes from new products. However, Gamestop has been known to charge opened games as new, and it's things like that where much of Gamestop's criticism comes from.

If the law cracked down on used game sales, then that could start a disastrous trend where all other product ventures such as video sales or even furniture will want the same sort of revenue protection. And that's a mess no one wants to deal with.

Even with online pass functionality, the used game plus the pass is still usually cheaper than a new game (say $30 used + $10 pass, as opposed to $60 sealed new).

I think a degree of responsibility is to be shouldered by VG devs Gamestop, though. In the same way you can't expect WB to forsake their profits, you can't expect a consumer to not look for the best deal. Though, this doesn't excuse acting so entitled to the content, since buying used pretty much negates any obligation that VG devs would have to uphold to you.

Edit: This is not directed at you Wanderer, we just happened to post at the same time. But thanks for the perspective.

I think if your system fries it will stick with your PSN or XboX account, not the actual system itself; I could be wrong, though.

Isn't it getting increasingly harder to get a job in the U.S. due to the economy?

Also, priorities come in different forms, on a case by case basis. Bills, gas, food, other hobbies are some things I can think of that would hinder me from buying a game that I really want at a given time.

It's not particularly hard to get a job in itself, but many people have certain standards they adhere to. Most people aren't willing to take a different kind of job for less pay if they've gotten more elsewhere, for instance.

There's never a shortage of independent labor work, but most people aren't willing (or are even able) to do that sort of job.

Its called doing research, I suggest you do that before buying a game.

Ultimately what it comes down to is that if you buy MK used to save 5 dollars, because you are that poor then maybe there isn't a problem with the company maybe there is a problem with you. I would rather spend the extra money to help WB and NRS rather than give all of it to Gamestop.

Well the thing is they get no money off of used games. This way they can get some sort of profit.

That feature requires servers, brah, servers cost money to maintain. I seem to remember someone saying that already.

Then buy the game new and avoid it. That's how companies are getting around used game sales and are starting to make money off of their games.
