Bottom line... IT'S A BUSINESS. You have to make people pay for things to make money. Why not complain that the game was $60 instead of $40, or the Kollector's Edition was over $100 instead of $75 for an art book and book ends?

Seriously people, let it go. Everyone always wants s free hand out. Stop complaining so much, buy it if you want it, don't buy it if you don't think it's worth it. Who cares? Quit being babies.

Right back at ya, about being a baby. You apparently missed the reasons why people are not willing to support this specific dlc. The concept of dlc is fine as it adds more revenue for the company, and more content for the gamer, but when they release dlc that is nothing more than an unlock code, no, we will not support that. But as you wish, shall stop complaining and will indeed not pay for this, if there is a charge, as I only support dlc that is not already on disc.
haha you guys are so annoying

yea plenty of things are on the disk, but that doesn't mean we should be able to play as zombie, director, stuntman, etc

and if they want to release a pack with zombie, stuntman, etc what's the problem?

Piracy wouldn't be nearly as big of a problem if companies weren't deceptive pieces of shit.

Just sayin'.

I suggest you read the EULA. We don't own anything. We have paid for the right to use the game. Everything on the disc is still owned by WB.

EULAs don't work like that and do not hold up in court in regards to a tangible object.

Law precedent has established that the game disc is yours and you are free to do whatever you want with it as long as it does not infringe on the copyright of the publisher.

Everything on that disc is fair game to be hacked, cracked, and manipulated as its owner sees fit for personal use.

Just be happy that they arn't selling entire characters that are already on the disc.

This isn't as major as MVC3 with Jill Valentine and the hentai tentacle monster.

They are just kostumes.

People seriously need to get a grasp on reality and realize why there's nothing wrong with selling content "that is already on the disc".

What exactly is your problem? Clearly the content is not "already on the disk" or you'd be able to use all the classic costumes and fatalities without paying for anything. They're selling you a key that unlocks extras in your game, what's wrong with that?

Would you prefer if they didn't include all the stuff in the disk and then sold it, would that make you feel better? Because it doesn't make a difference at all to anyone but you.
Having the content already in the disk just makes the download and installation way faster, that's pretty much the only thing that sets it up apart from "regular" DLC.

I hope no serious video game producer listens to you people. The alternative you people are proposing is Nether Realm Studios doesn't put all the stuff in the disk and ends up selling it to you online for probably the same price or higher. What's the difference...?

are you talking about the fact that is already on the disk and Boon said there would be free DLC? Who cares? It's a business. Honestly, if you had the opportunity to charge people with more content, wouldn't you?

I don't think anyone's going to believe me, but truth be told, no. I wouldn't. And given that the game has already sold a million copies, I don't even think it's smart from a business perspective. If it were my call, I would have used this as an opportunity to one up Capcom and win over the favor the tournament community.

For months the users at Shoryuken.com were praising NRS for having no on-disc DLC. Now that's all been flushed.

Disco_Diva Wrote:

Well, if they tried to sell fans playable versions of the bosses, we'd raise the same points.

Zentile Wrote:

People were using the content. NRS had to patch in a lock so non-exclusive purchasers couldn't use all the character fatalities. Hackers are using pretty much everything under the sun in the game.

That's virtually the same thing. Withholding finished content that you intend to sell later is ethically equivalent on-disc DLC.

If the content was made under the same team and budget, there's no reason it shouldn't be available on the disc.

And on any grounds, they're lying to their consumers! You can pull this utilitarian nonsense all day about how we'll get more content because of this, but that doesn't change that they're advertising their products as costumes when in reality, its a key. A software key. They're selling you a damn software key! THAT is fucked up in any business scenario. You think all the soccer moms out there would buy their fourteen year old this crap if they knew it was a software key? The entire campaign for this stuff uses deception as a prerequisite.

Um, we paid $60 for the game, Sherlock. Now they want $5 more for stuff already on the disc, when we were told we WOULDN'T be charged for stuff already on the disc? That's not a lie at all, and Bill Clinton didn't inhale.

Exactly--that's why Rockstar got into trouble over the whole "Hot Coffee" thing. The ESRB changed the rating on the game even though that mini game wasn't meant to be played BECAUSE IT WAS ON THE DISC. Whether it was meant to be accessed or not was irrelevent. Used game stores wouldn't exist if we didn't own our own discs.

It's no where NEAR "audacious and insulting", you guys are really over-dramatic for no reason. The product they are selling you is the game. The standalone, gory fighting game it's always been. HOWEVER, they gave us all:
-A Story Mode
-The Challenge Tower
-Test Your Might
-Test Your Sight
-Test Your Luck
-Test Your Strike
ALL for free and you guys actually have the AUDACITY to complain and moan for 5$ costumes that don't really add to the enjoyment of the game?

If YOU want to think they only gave you 85%, that's fine. Keep your own pessimistic view of life. However, they technically gave us 100% in giving a great game with multiple mini-games and a story mode. The pre-order bonuses were items that seemed to add 10% to that already established 100% IMO.
I guess some people only buy a game for the bonuses...

Plus, if you think anything "for the fans" means "we're going to give everything for free, even the stuff we didn't really intend to implement as a main part of the game AND your game can totally function WITHOUT THEM", then you are sorely mistaken.

Also, if you're boasting that you can hack these and get these for free then why don't you just do that? Like honestly, that argument makes no sense. If you can hack it why complain that it's so unfair?

It's nice to see the Pessimist-Optimist Dichotomy has come in to play here. It's a product I bought with my own money man, if there is anything about this product that I dislike or diagree with I've the right to complain about it just as much as you have the right to get so easily offended by my complaints.

And yes, I am making a complaint about the DLC because as proven with the pre-patch classic fatalitys, all of that data is there on the disc right now as we speak with no need for additional tweaking or modification. I couldn't give a fuck about a business perspective and what works better for NRS's sales because I don't work there, but as a paying customer I don't like the idea of being ripped off for paying additional money for locked data.

Fair? Probably not, but considering you can encounter 4 of these purchasable outfits for free in the ladder mode/challenge tower I find it a bit distasteful that we're not actually paying for a brand new download but merely paying to unlock something that's technically already there.

Kintaro and Shao Khan are two examples I stated because you'd actually need to download their character icons and places for the main roster in the ladder and tag modes, plus you'd need the additional data for tweaking them for casual gameplay and presumably their alternate costumes too. There's nothing to download here though. Those Retro models are merely just cosmetic outfits that are already there, present, and the CPU can use them perfectly with no problem. They're not like Khan or Skarlet who'd be taking up a whole new icon on the select screen, it's just a cosmetic difference applied to a character who's data is already on the disc. In my mind it makes no sense to pay for something that is in no way shape or form a new addition to the game's content, since this was all developed and included when the game was being created.

Did I once say that I can personally hack my own game? No, I didn't, so chill the fuck out there buddy. I just said it's possible, and for the very reasons you stated. It was well known when this game was released in South America that the Classic Fatality's your now paying for were included on your standard copy of the game, until NRS found out about it, and decided to lock that information in a patch until you paid extra to have it back. I'm assuming you know that yeah? Do not lecture me on what I personally buy a video game for kid, you don't know me at all.

All I really want is Jade, Smoke and Noob classic costumes, but freakin A the latter two probably aren't part of this DLC pack which really sucks. I don't even want to pay to have extra costumes. In fact I don't wanna pay anything more than what I already paid for when I bought the game. Could you imagine the backlash back in the day if they we had to pay to have extra costumes in MK2 or MK3?

No classic Smoke?

I'd feel better if these weren't just 2 costumes with various colors. Even making Kitana's fans into full metal fans I'd feel better. Or heck making Kitana / Mileena / Jade have an additional MK2 costume would be a plus.

These reskins just feel lazy.

Lol @ the guy (Think it was Torturelegend) who was getting all pissed off a couple of days ago at people who predicted we would be paying for this, "because Boon told him personally that this stuff would be free".

Not saying he was lying, but we should all know not to trust a single word ANY game developer has to say.

I Can't Wait!!! I Just want Reptiles! His is the only one I don't have. Hope to see Rain in future DLC as well!!
I'm buying this DLC not just because of the costumes and outfits but so I can support this method and the many threads it gives birth to.

I now have a reason to support Pricing of on-disc DLC.

Thank you MKO smile
