Netherrealm Studios Announces Pre-Order Klassic Skin DLC Pack!

In the early stages of development, Netherrealm Studios announced plans for an active post-release DLC for their latest game, Mortal Kombat. After the confirmation of the first two DLC characters, Kenshi and Skarlet, due for release in the near future, today we can confirm the very first DLC package available for the game: Klassic Skin/Fatality pre-order pack!

Leading up to release a whirlwind of information regarding pre-order bonuses from the likes of Gamestop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and even the Mortal Kombat movies on Blu-ray disc formed leading to tough decisions for Mortal Kombat fans everywhere. The classic costumes were old school "retro ninja" costumes recalling the original glory days of Mortal Kombat back in the mid 90's. Characters given this treatment included Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Ermac, Jade, Mileena and Kitana. The classic three male ninja listed first were also given a retro fatality, what amounts to their signature finishers from the 2D era. A video promo was included to hype the release:

According to some sources, the DLC package will cost 400 MS points or $4.99 on PSN. As hinted by the official Mortal Kombat twitter account, this DLC package should go on sell on June 7th. Featured in the pack is the following content: 7 alternate retro themed attires (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Ermac, Jade, Mileena, Kitana) and 3 classic fatalities (Scorpion's Toasty, Sub-Zero's Spine Rip, Reptile's Head Eat).

Still a hotly debated issue, downloadable content has created somewhat of a rift in the gaming community. Is the pricing fitting for the content? Was the timing of this release sensible? Be sure to share your thoughts about DLC with us here or over on MK Online's twitter!

Now that Kitana costume looks acceptable.

This pack feels like its worth it just to get the MKU retro for Kitana and ignore her other two costumes.

I'm very disappointed they are not giving us classic Fatalities for Kitana, Jade, and Mileena though (even Ermac). Why is it just for the 3 male ninjas? Will they develop DL Fatalities soon for the rest of the cast?

I certainly hope so because I want to have hopes that Sonya's classic Kiss of Death (purple orb or MKDA mist) will somehow make it as DLC in the near future. Many are also hoping for Kitana's Kiss, Sindel's hair, Shang's Soul Steal, etc....

4.99 is not too bad for the people who don't have any of these costumes/fatalities. I already have boring Scorpion (+Toasty) and Ermac, so, I'm not sure if I'll be getting this pack.

Not anytime soon, anyways.

Bring on retro/classic Cyborgs (+Fatalities), MK3/MK4 Sonya, and extra Fatalities!

Don't know why the retro cyrax and sektor are not on as well as there Also on the disc

Oh wait I know why more money for dlc packs...

I am really intrigued to see what are the supposed free dlc if we have to pay for these classic costumes hmmmm

That's pretty much the only reason I'm considering buying this. Lmfao. I love Kitana in this game, she's so much fun to fight as but GOD DAMN do I hate how she looks. So I've been wanting her retro more than anyone's.

am i the only one who thinks the retro costumes look really, really bad?
they just DO NOT WORK in today's graphics. and reptile's growling sounds retarded in his human form, and i simply cannot accept that his entire reptilian form is underneath his skin.

anyway, i've already got the classic fatalities (as soon as the goddamn PS store come back on), so at £4.99 this is a DEFINITE pass for me. makes you wonder what the fuck a character is gonna cost.

Jesus tapdancing christ! This is getting annoying. Of course those things were on the disc, they were preorder bonuses! Not to mention that "throwback" mission in the tower. These costumes were obviously done before the game went gold, so do you expect them to not put it on the disc? For what reason?

I understand C(r)apcom tried to pull this shit with those two DLC characters that were 98% done on the disc, but that doesn't mean every time they charge for a bonus item, everybody has to call bullshit on the developer. Edit: And the reason the retro Cyrax and Sektor costumes weren't on the disc is because... **drumroll** They weren't done yet!

I was tempted to get Jade, Ermac, Mileena and Scorpion's but I'm not too sure. I never really use any of them anyway, and considering I've seen Jade's classic suit and Scorpion's already within my own copy of the game via the ladder/challenge tower, it puts me off buying it.

Will I purchase Skarlet or Rain? Yes, in a heart beat. But the idea of spending money to be merely "unlocking" costumes doesn't bode well with me at all. It's only 400 points mind, but that's not the point. As it is the Smoke, Noob, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Jade, Scorpion and Sub-Zero outfits are already on that game right now, with Ermac, Mileena and Kitana just being the same outfits but recoloured. It's just not the same as purchasing outfits that are not already on the disc.

I'd have no problem purchasing this if I knew none of that content was already there in the first place, but I'm voting with my wallet in this case and not paying for those outfits. I think they should be free considering they are technically already there.

No, I agree with you on this. Though I think it's cool that we get the opportunity, I just hate the fact that they made on male model and one female model, then palette swapped them. I would rather have that they used Kitana's model and put on the classic outfit on her, then took Mileena's model and put on her classic outfit etc. instead. This is just lazy.

... I'm going to get it anyways though. XD

I hate the price but I'll buy them anyway, I hate both of scorps costumes and I always perferred human reptile.

I hope that the smoke glitch is actually a hint for classic smoke being in the pack too. EDIT: it would be worth the $5 if it had the cyborgs plus their classic fatalities as well

I'll probably end up caving but I do think it should be free. And are Noob/Smoke included? Cyrax/Sector for that matter? Smh, I guess not.

I really want Kitana's costume as well as Jade's. So I might get it...I gotta see.

Content is clearly already on the disc. I'm voting with my wallet and not buying it.

The price isn't the problem, it's the principal of the matter, it's like buying a new car, but oh wait the trunk is locked and you can't access the spare tire even though it's already in the trunk until you fork over additional money and then we'll give you the key lol.

I have no problem with fresh and new DLC, like Kenshi, I'll buy something like that in a heartbeat.

The costumes look way out of place. Not a fan at all.

And they really should have at least given Classic Scorpion the rope spear and original sound effect. The chain sucks.
