He's no more stupid than the other characters.

No character in MK is in the running for "greatest character of all time".

I wanna see all the shitty fatalities from the old 2D games brought back, just to see if they look even stupider rendered in 3D.

I wish this site had a good search feature so we could dredge up some of those threads with people whining about how NRS is trolling rain fans cause they hate rain and what a travesty the game is being he hasn't been including and how many other characters he should've been included before and blah blah blah.

I openly admit I was one of those people, and I still believe Rain should have been part of the main roster and Quan Chi shouldn't even have been in the game... That said though, I am quite satisfied with what they have done with Rain as a DLC character. NRS did a good job and now I am just glad to finally have the opportunity to play as him in this game. ^^

And what would be that point of that? What would it prove?

Rain damn straight should've been in before certain characters. That's simply a fact.

Why exactly?

Seems rather petty to dredge up drama for the sake of doing so, we're getting a wonderful DLC character, trying to ressurect old drama is pointless.


I'm not going to debate the issue, but Rain should have been in the original game, over a few characters. Doesn't matter now though, the roster will be as it should be in a few more days.

Maybe your memory is selective, but there was a point when we had *no* guarantee that Rain would even be in MK9 at all.

I won't deny that's a crappy fatality, but at least it's not Smoke and Ermac's Decap Punch from the same game.

I was actually hoping for a tiny reference to this fatality in his x-ray,
but I'm not at all surprised it didn't happen.

Ahnka- I'm betting they could make several of them look cooler than you might think. Shit, they arguably brought back the lamest fatality *ever* (Jax' Giant Boot) and made it (kinda) work for Ermac.

I still very much want Mileena's Maneater-
it may not be the most realistic fatality ever, but I still love it.
I'm betting they could make it look good- *especially* the end where she barfs up their bones and innards.

why all the comparisons between rain and quan chi?
im not gonna stamp on rain fans' parades (and i think he looks pretty cool) but there has NEVER been a single point in the mk canon (pre retcon or after) where rain was a more important character than quan chi. never.
and no, rain is no more a silly character than any other, but thats doesnt change the fact that he WAS originally designed as a joke character.

saying that rain definitely should have been in the game ahead of quan chi is just ignorant. the roster was right as it was, and so far nrs are choosing the best of the rest (those not important to the story) as dlc.

This isn't about Rain being more important. I think what they're saying is that he's the only classic character who was AXED!

There's a ton of characters who are in the game that didn't do much of shit(Sheeva anyone?) and yet still made it. Why? Because they are classic characters.

Nobody is saying that "Rain is such a vital character to the series!", this isn't about that. This is about having all the classic characters present.

This game is for the classics. Period. And all Quan Chi did was show up and piss everyone off. So sit down.

But don't put words in my mouth, I'm not saying Quan Chi should've been axed. I'm just saying its MORE than understandable why people would want Rain in more than Quan Chi.

Are you saying we should still look at him as a joke? Are you saying we should still treat him like Mokap? If we go by your logic than Ermac and Skarlet should still be considered as glitches. Hey man, no one is less of a Rain fan than I am and even *I* know that he's not a joke character.

He's just always been superfluous. And that's largely because he never really got a fair shake.

I mean, of all the characters that have been in only 2 games (previous to this one), he's one of the best.

Though to be fair, most of the other people on that list are fuckin' terrible.

No offense, but if I want to get defensive over a fictional character, than that's my right.

Besides, a part of his post was in response to something I said.

And if someone wants to say that Rain is a useless piece of shit with no redeeming qualities who never should've been included in the Mortal Kombat universe and destroys the integrity of the colour purple just by wearing it, that's their right too.

I don't know why anyone would say that, mind you. Purple is my favourite colour. Besides black, but that's more of a shade.
