lmao!

As far as Rain goes, it's kinda bullshit how they're leaving him out.
"We have included every character from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3!.... except Ran"

I understand he was put in as a joke character, but hey, it's too late now, he was in the game during the 2D era. If Noob Saibot makes it in, I don't see why Rain can't make it in. Noob Saibot seems just as underdeveloped as Rain, and he was in MK Deception.

Rain needs to can the whole ninja bit. He have ENOUGH NINJAS (they don't even fight like the traditional ninjas I've seen) so I don't see why they have to add ANOTHER ninja. We learned that he's the descendent of a God... so.... DRESS HIM LIKE ONE. And give him powers like one.

I say storm-based powers instead of Rain and lightning.
-The Lightning Strike: To differentiate his between that of Nightwolf and Raiden's make his lightning stun you instead of just knock you down. It can be his personal stun move.
-The Mind Control Orb: It's a classic, so I don't see why it can't come back. It can be used in the middle of a juggle to elongate his combos and add make them more unique.
-A few wind and hurricane-based specials: This will make little use of Fujin and therefore they won't have to worry about bringing him back.
-Hail: Some move that can involve hail coming from the sky. I don't know the what the outcome of it can be, but yeah... it would be kewl.
-The Super Round house: They should just give him a move that's a reminiscent of this one. It was always kind of goofy. Just give him the most powerful (but unsafe) roundhouse kick in the game. A chuck norris style.

The end. He can be a good character, they just need to give him a chance.
^
I'm cool with a bit of both. Like full on HARD one against 2-4 man endurance matches, or tag team matches.. but maybe even a quick test your might against another warrior in town.

3D is a gimmick on ps3, don't let that be something that makes you decide, it lowers the resolition of the game by half at least and makes it much darker, games look like crap in 3D, engadget said KZ3 looked very degraded when played in 3D.

You can install games onto the PS3. Someone said you can't. Just throwing that out there.

Both systems are basically the same price (360 is not cheaper, you have to buy a bunch of accessories to make your way up to the standard package). PS3 comes with more built into the standard package and requires less maintenance/accessories, and has the superior D-Pad. 360 has far better online, that's about it.

I have both, but I'll be getting the game for PS3.

You can't install games on the ps3 completely, the PS3 does partial installs because the seek time is too slow on the blu ray drive but those are mandatory installs and they don't do the whole game. On the 360 you can put the ENTIRE game on the harddrive so the disc drive no longer needs to be moving while you are playing. Obviously games you download from PSN are put on your harddrive but retail game discs can't be downloaded onto the ps3 harddrive the way games can be on the 360. The 360 comes with everything the ps3 does except a blu ray drive, as far as trickle charge kits you do realize when your DS3 battery stops holding a charge you have to go buy a whole new controller or just use it as wired because you can't change the battery right? I'd rather spend 15.00 on a play and charge kit than have to spend 50.00 on a new controller. With that said they are basically the same value now other than blu ray which again just depends if someone wants to wear their system out as a blu ray player or if they want to use it just for games. I have both systems and I like them both a lot and they both have strengths and weaknesses. One thing is for sure though, the D pad on the DS3 is superior to the dpad on the 360 controller, it sucks because I think the 360 controller is superior in every way to the DS other than the Dpad, I wish MS would fix that, they know it's an issue but they are being too cheap to do anything about it.

Buying new PS3 controllers at many stores such as walmart, and bestbuy, offer you a free full-price game like Killzone 2 or Littlebig Planet for free.

3 full Dualshock 3 controllers for basically free for buying these games which are amazing should be enough to get you very much through the PS3's lifetime.

Xbox360's HDD instal is just to keep the system from overkilling itself. Red ring and other problems still happen frequently in the Xbox community even with this feature. I literally dont know one person with a PS3 that has had any sort of problem Ever.

Interesting about the new arcade ladder, hopefully there are multiple ladders to select from. If you want just pure old school fighting there's a ladder for that and so forth. I wouldn't want there to be combo challenges and that kind of stuff in arcade mode.

The PS3 has the two most important things you need for the game, FREE online service, and better D-pad.

And the LIVE > PSN argument could have been used a few years back, but they are nearly identical now with the exception of cross game chat, which to me is useless, because when I playing a video game the last thing I want to do is also talk with 6 of my friends at one time while their playing Call of Duty.

Also worth noting...one alt costume per character and tower of power is seperate. The sub zero is the older one as well. All confirmed in the article.

Although I am all for Ps3. I have to be fair to Xbox. Cross game party chat is amazing. I would pay simply to have it implimented into ps3's system.

I feel that this will be irrelivant come MK9 anyways though. With the online modes being the 8 people in the KOTH mode, The main focus of your mind would be on the ladder of which you are competing. You arent going to be talking to your friends who are palying Gears of war, Prototype and Halo Reach. You are going to be in General Chat conversing with the other 7 players in the KOTH ladder.

Story mode is something that requires your undevided attention, so having communication or conversations with 7 others during storymode would take away from an experience that they Clearly want you to pay attention to. A serious MK fan would be right into the story anyways. I could only see this being used when you are randomly playing arcade mode. Even palying TOP mode will require dedication and attention.

so again, it doesnt really apply to MK9. PS3 is the way to go for me. Sure I will buy the 360 versiona nd get all the achievments AFTER im done on PS3 getting my platinum trophy, but I wont be touching it much after that unless my friends want me to play online, which I will then NOT be using party chat.

Small correction on my part. The new mode is actually called "Challenge Tower". In my haste, I misread the caption title "Tower of Power" as the name of the new mode. The MK team refer to it as "Challenge Tower". Boon says it's similar to an arcade ladder, not the actual new arcade ladder. Sorry about that.

Hopefully the challenges will be more along the lines of "defeat x number of opponents under certain conditions". And not the "perform impossible combo number 68" type.

And if we could pretty please get a survival mode too that would be truly amazing.

casselman the loading onto the drive was done because gamers requested it, not beacuse it was killing the 360 to run the disc. People wanted to load games because the older version of the xbox was kinda noisy with the disc spinning so fast, also it does cut down on load times for some games. It is a nice feature to have because it does cut down on hardware wear and tear.

As far as the controller issue, I have a 360 and have had since day 1, I never did buy a play and charge kit because I like being wireless all the time but that's just my thing, a lot of people don't care if the thing is corded to charge and that's cool.

The 360 controller is better in every way other than the Dpad imo, the sticks give better resistance, the buttons are layed out better and the triggers are very nice unlike the ones on the dual shock 3 where you have to buy the trigger add ons just to make them decent and most shooters don't even give you the option to use them anyway. IF MS would get off their cheap asses and rebuild the dpad on the 360 contoller they'd have the best controller out there.

Now back to MK, I hope the alternate costumes that are included in the game aren't just color changes but actual seperate outfits. One thing about fighting games, they do not cost anywhere near as much to make as other top level games yet they cost the same amount to buy, I'm all for adding things through DLC but I hope WB and netherrealm are better to their fans than capcom was when SF4 came out with barely anything in the game but charged full price for the original version only to turn around and charge 5.00 for cosume packs.

I wouldn't mind if costume packs downloadable. Rumor has it entire arenas may be downloadable. I believe I read that on here somewhere. I also would not be surprised if Rain becomes unlockable sometime in the future. They may play it where he is visible but not playable at first (UMK) and then maybe playable as DLC (later released in MKT). They may follow the same trend for nostalgia sake...?

On the system note, that was a ton of information overload, but very helpful. I think I will go with the PS3 just so Sindel can scream the circuits off of Casselman's Sektor wink

Hahaha, well after we settle that Skaven, We can go 2v2 some people. Id love to have you on PS3 personally.

And about the XBox, whether or not the people requested it, it still has nothing to contribute with the fact that Xbox is poorly built and can defect anytime. Every person I know, or at least 90% have had the box red-ring.

Theres no winning this in my eyes, its a lost cause. I waited 6 months after PS3's release and literally ripped thos systems apart in every detail. Down to the way The processors work. Ps3 is just the better system clearly in my opinion.
I can sit calmly in my room knowing my PS3 will still be pumping out MK while if it were xbox, id be scared come release for a redring. Not everybody has the 2 weeks necessary to ship their system to microsoft to get it fixed. We are waiting long en ough for this game. I will go with the better and safe bet.

I guess you haven't heard how the older ps3's have been "yellow ringing" at a high level after they reach about 2 years old or so, not everyone but it was enough to make it a story on a lot of websites not that long ago. I'll tell you my first 360 lasted 1 month short of 3 years and I got 2 red lights, I sent it in to MS saying it had 3 and got it replaced for free and have not had any issues with the replacement 360. The 360 is much more reliable now than it was the first 2 years it came out, MS should be ashamed for putting out a product with such a high defect rate that is for sure but at least they made good on it and it cost them over a billion dollars to do it.

One other thing, 3rd party games almost always look better and run better on 360 because it's an easier platform to work on but both consoles have some great looking games.

As far as the DLC again, I like the idea of adding things to games but being that fighting games are so shallow I think you have to include a lot in the box before you start asking people to spend a ton of money for add ons. SF4 is a clear example of greed, they had what like 6 backgrounds when you count the fact that many of them were just day/night changes of the same one and they put a monkey in place of an aligator lol and the fact that they only had color changes instead of actual alternative outfits. At least with the 2nd version it had more included and a lower price but still the original SF4 was not worth $60.00. I hope that WB and netherrealm will treat us much better and pack the original game full of backgrounds and fighters, they already are putting a good amount of characters in so as long as they don't cheap out on the backgrounds and outifts I'll be all for more things as DLC, I just don't want to feel nickle and dimed.

That is obveously of poor use. Yes clearly there will be SOME percentage of systems that have a defect or whatever because of things that innevitably will happen from time to time in the factory. I know of nobody that this has happened to and I live and surround myself by gamers. Not one has had this.

I have a first gen 60GB PS3 and I beat the crap out of it every day in a confined space with lousy ventalation and constant power disruption because of a crappy power bar and guess what.

Never had a single problem.

I am truly sry I know you love you Xbox and it is a Great system in many ways, but its not for me and I dont believe any player who prefers D-Pad or a great setup and system for online fighting should get MK9 for xbox. To be fair, SSF4 and SF4 were awsome and I actually have it for xbox, but the only reason was friends. They have it for xbox as they like the joystick.

If we really want to get into this, I can start ripping up the launch specs. Id prefer not to.

I hope by that they don't mean that we have to select from a list of feelins and choose that and it comes up somewhere on the screen.
Why can't we just talk through our headset in the room? I hated the whole chat system of MKvsDC. This is the next gen of games, we shouldn't have to go painfully type using our controller, who the hell has the messenger thing for the X360 controller anyway, it's pointless if you have a computer for facebook etc. And we shouldn't have to make our feelings known by selecting them from a list.

Launch specs? what do you mean? like how sony lied and said the ps3 could handle displaying games at 1080p on two seperate monitors (which it can't lol)? or are you talking defect rates? lol I already said xbox 360 had a huge amount of defects and MS should be ashamed for putting out hardware like that. I do know 2 people who's launch ps3's yellow "lighted" and it's been a story on the net, it's not as bad as the 360 to be sure but it's a higher level than it needs to be. As I said I own both systems and I play them both equally so I have no bias I just don't buy sony marketing BS.

I've been a gamer for a long time and I can tell you from my own experience sony systems aren't as reliable as you say, my launch ps1 died 2 days after I got it and I had to wait 2 weeks for a new one because I got it launch day and they were sold out and my first ps2 died 3 months after I got it and barely used it, I treat my consoles like they are made of glass so they are always clean and vented properly and rarely moved around.

I have little confidence in the quality of Sony's electronics. The 360 has a much higher defect rate as I said no doubt about that, especially older models but sony is no angel when it comes to this either. It's not about who's worse it's about both of them having higher defect rates than should be considered acceptable.

I've read reports early last year so this is based on older hardware that the 360 defect rate since launch was 35%-40% (which is insane) and the ps3 rate was between 10-15% which is still too high, nintendo was the most reliable at an acceptable 3% defect rate but they also are the one using the oldest technology.

If you find fault in what I said that's fine, I just wanted to get that part out. I know this is a mortal kombat forum so we probably shouldn't take up much more time talking about the xbox 360 and the ps3, no matter which system someone buys MK on they'll enjoy the game no doubt about it.
