posted07/01/2010 08:08 PM (UTC)byHattoris...you have to pay for it. Apparently it's the one single "premium" part of that issue. But luckily, I apparently still had a credit for premium "stuff". I watched it, and while it didn't have a great deal of new info, here's what I heard:
-Says Twitter messages have been the best feedback for ideas for the new game (request Hara-kiris! He liked my suggestion for stage-based hara-kiris )
-The part that grabbed my attention most: In regards to secrets, he says that the "vast majority" of characters will be playable from the outset (between 24 and 26, he says), but he's hoping to go back to the old days of MK where players don't know secrets until they've discovered them themselves, such as fatality commands and hidden characters. He refers to "undocumented features" that "won't be talked about".
-Talks briefly about the story, saying that Raiden is "screwing things up" trying to prevent Armageddon and calls it a "tragic Back to the Future" (Predict Liu Kang's earlier death even more now...).
-He says there are talks for an arcade stick, but he doesn't know if he wants it to be MK exclusive or more "universal" for multiple fighters.
-Admits that Deception and Armageddon basically were just "derivatives" of Deadly Alliance
-Still talks about Mortal Kombat VS Street Fighter, but says it's a matter of figuring out who would develop it.
Anyway, that was pretty much it. A bit more "reading between the lines" as usual, but it still grabbed my attention

It may not be allowed to be posted out here int he open as its pay-only content. Would it be too much trouble to have you write/type a word for word transcript and send via PM? or if its allowed, int his thread? Im doubting its allowed but its worth a shot for documentation purposes.

HA HA, I knew it!
I totally predicted that Raiden's changes would all turn out making things worse!

I personally would like to see Netherealm develop MK vs. Street Fighter only cause they can nail down the darkness and grittyness the game would need. Also I wonder how Capcom would feel about their characters killing and being killed. I hope it wouldnt be another situation where the game would be rated Teen

If he's telling us through word of mouth it can hardly be against any rules, can it?

Why wouldn't Raiden send a warning back to Liu Kang about his ambush by the Deadly Alliance or to Scorpion about Quan-Chi swiping theamulet to awaken Onaga or to even Shujinko for that matter? Any of those three events could probably fix things..lol Ah well..if it went that way there' probably wouldn't be much for a game or comedy at that point..this reminds me so much of that episode of Simpsons Treehouse of Terror where Homer had the time travelling toaster and kept going back to change things and he kept crushing one tiny little thing and it caused a butterfly effect..LOL
For shits and giggles, though, I hope to thunder god that Raiden's hat falls off revealin' his hair to be kind of all over the place from his lightening and right before his death he says "Great Scott..."

lol, i'v just seen the video! man i am glad i brought the mag now. now i get to see the video.
its cool that hes expanding the thought of hidden stuff, I wonder if any of that can get unlocked though online?
anyway, he did talked about mk vs street fighter. He wants to do it badly, and wants just sf, and mk to take the big slots of fighting games again just like in the past.

One of the things I liked about the older MK games was the crazy secret and playful meddling with the fans heads. I'm thrilled to see Boon is looking to go back to that.
Regarding the plot however I can't see how Raiden could possibly make things worse, being the original time line appears to have ended with the announcer saying "Shao Kahn Wins".
I'd love to see a Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter, but I have one worry: Rated T for Teen.

Rated T for Terrible
also Outworld wins.
Seriously though I remember someone here saying that the Dead Pool looked like it was combined with Goro's lair. and the pit 2 does have the pit 1 bottom. perhaps Shang wins MK1, kills Liu and MK2 and 3 just merge into one game with a plot similar to 3!

Anyone get the feeling that the cinematic in the first trailer is a mid game cutscene in which the good guys lose (but probably not all killed) to Shao Kahn and Raiden has to take matters in his own hands? It's just a guess on my part, but it COULD explain why Raiden does the whole "BLAAAAAGH!!!!" thing. You know, being pissed that everything isnt going according to plan?...Then again, he could just be pissed at Kahn because...well...Kahn is Kahn.

Well I don't know about the rest, but I always knew the Kahn/Raiden scene in the trailer was from mid-game. It has to be set during the MK2 part of story mode because they're at Kahn's Arena.
The game starts at Armageddon, so if that clip were from the opening cutscene at the beginning of the game, it'd be happening at Argus' Pyramid, and Raiden would be dark.

Yeah, once I heard this was actually after Armageddon I figured this would be mid-game. Then that sparked the other ideas I got.

not sure why it didn't dawn on me about the mid game cut scene. I totally forgot about that.
Thanks for the new info. Very interesting.
I had a hunch Raidens time medling would make things worse, that one will be very interesting to see play out.
I Still don't think they'll kill off any playable characters during story mode though.
So I say if Liu Kang is playable in the game he'll survive.

I thought about this as well. We knew that Raiden and Shao Kahn were to fight around the time of Armageddon, causing Raiden's "telepathic time travel"... so it didn't make sense for that FMV to take place during that time due to, as mentioned above, taking place in Kahn's Arena and Raiden being "regular" Raiden, not "Dark Raiden".
So I wonder if we are indeed getting legit FMV sequences during story mode as Boon eluded to. Shaolin Monks had a similar set up, with various FMVs sprawled throughout the game.
