Didn't really hope I'd have to greet Rain's introduction with these words, but I am, well, tad disappointed. With looks only, of course; I believe the moveset will be a totally different story.

I mean, even if we do accept the ninjaesque depiction of Scorpion (because he's a ninja), Lin Kuei kombatants (because they are a Chinese caste of quasi-ninjas), Reptile (because in that way he hides his reptilian looks), Ermac (because, how I seem to get it, it would be much harder to depict an amalgam of myriads of souls and entities with a unique, clear-cut face), and Mileena - Kitana - Jade trio (because they are assassins with the need not to reveal their identity) ... still, Rain looking like a stereotypical ninja just never made any logical sense to me. I don't think it's a regal attire, and I don't remember Rain being a member of any clan of assassins. That said, I'd say his best (most reasonable, anyway) looks were in his primary outfit from MKA, and would have been perfect without the face veil.

If you ask me, a factor that's contributing to Rain's progressive lack of true popularity, are his uninspired copy-paste clothes. That, and, of course, the "last minute addition" propaganda with which the creators keep demeaning him, and which now got repeated once again.

Man, I gotta agree, about the roundhouse at least. There's no way they can make that shit not look stupid. People are talking about portals to make it work, but since when can Rain open portals? MAYBE if the kick whips up some kind of tornado that deposits them on the other side. OR if he kicks them so hard they liquify, then he summons a raincloud on the other side, and they fall from it and reform...

He's an assassin in Shao Kahn's army. I know that's not a clan, but it's close, Kahn and Outworld being a bit like an old-fashioned warlord and Feudal Japan.
I mean, that's always been the excuse for Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Reptile, Ermac, and now Skarlet.

Ermac is not an assassin.

Baraka, Motaro, and Shokans also do dirt jobs for Kahn, yet are without mask.


Anyway, concerning your quote, it would be more logical if they looked like they did back in MKT; that is, if you mean all Kahn's assassins must wear uniforms. It would, on the other hand, make sense if they had the freedom to mask as they see fit, as long as they are just masked.

Finally. Rain's looin amazing can't wait to see more of him.

He actually has more of a Tenchu/Shinobi vibe about him but with a hint of regality. I love it, I can't see how anybody can fault that outfit or compare him to the other ninjas. In comparisson to the rest of them he actually does look like a fucking ninja whilst still being unique and distinct. Unlike Scorpion who looks like he's a regular at a Bondage club, or Ermac who's more of a Mummy than a Ninja, Rain's actually a plausible ninja. Loving it!

Yeah, I was worried that they'd flub on Rain like they did with Smoke's primary. I actually think, in terms of ninja constumes, this ranks up there with Ermac's alt and Smoke's alt. A bit on the safe side for Rain, but fucking awesome looking all the same.

Rain, on the other hand, has no reason what so ever to be making OTHER PEOPLE teleport. Tell me, what the fuck does that have to do with storm powers or hydrokinesis? Nothing, that's what. Doesn't make sense.

He doesn't turn into smoke or open a portal- he just pops out the other side like Pac-Mac (and Ermac, and Scorpion). You might notice NONE of them use portals in their teleport moves.
