I once wrote a game concept of an Armageddon "sequal" where Rain turned the Edenians against the royal throne, because they have all this trouble with defending the realm from invaders - first Shao Kahn, then Shinnok, and then Onaga - which ends up in a civil war, splitting up the Edenian people. ^^

Right, now that that shit stain of a concept is out of the way.

Story:
Rain grew up to a privileged family in Edenia. His mother served on the advisement council under Queen Sindel and King Jerrod. His father was captain of the King's vast army. As a child, Rain wasn't very strong. In fact he was kind of sickly and frail. However, he was a brilliant mind and speaker, traits he inherited from his mother and father. When Rain grew into young adulthood, he served in the court of Queen Sindel as an advisor along with his mother. His military career however, was non existant because of his frail body. When Queen Sindel and King Jerrod had a daughter, Kitana, the two of them became fast friends despite their relatively small age difference. Their parents secretly hoped that the two would eventually marry once Kitana reached adulthood and bring prosperity to both of their houses.

However when Kahn invaded, the relative peace that Edenia was shattered. The Edenian army was overwhelmed and the it's ruling council was destroyed. Rain watched both of his parents die in front of him, and saw his closest childhood friend taken away by the invading forces.

Though young Rain was distraught, he couldn't help but feel compelled by the presence this new emperor exhibited. As somebody who was always so physically frail he never witnessed so much raw strength and power. It would be something that stood with him for the rest of his days as he escaped capture.

Rain's brilliant mind and tongue would serve to stir the spirits of his people, helping to build up a resistance that would serve as a thorn in Kahn's side for years. However, that first day had stuck with Rain and the powerful visage of Shao Kahn kept eating away at him. He wanted to know how he could become that powerful. It became a parasite that had finally consumed him.

During what was supposed to be a pivotal battle for the resistance, Rain led his own people into a trap. He sold them out to Shao Kahn's extermination squads in hopes that the new emperor would grant him the strength and power that he so desired.

Kahn was no fool. He had spies like Reptile in all corners of Edenia. He knew of Rain and his gifted tongue. Initially he had wanted to execute Rain for being the cause of this prolonged invasion, but after the Edenian was brought before him, Kahn recognized the hunger for strength and power in the young man's eyes. It reminded him of himself when he served as Advisor to the great Dragon King of Outworld. Seeing how easily Rain sold his own people out for the chance to gain power, Kahn knew he had to tred carefully. One wrong move and he might end up like his own former master.

Rain begged Kahn for mercy and pleaded the emperor to show him the secret to limitless power. In exchange Rain would reveal other pockets of resistance in Edenia.

Kahn granted him that gift, using his immense knowledge of sorcery to transform Rain's body into that of a strong, proud warrior while unlocking his latent abilities. Kahn also had his newest servant, the enigmatic Ermac to put a mental leash on the warrior, making him completely susceptible to Kahn's will. Rain did as he had promised, after receiving the power he so desperately wanted he gave up the location of other resistance pockets and effectively delivered all of Edenia to Kahn in the process.

Now Rain serves as the Emperor's voice and as a general in his army. Stirring the hearts of his supporters and bringing dispair to his opposition while Kahn continues his conquest of the realms.

Look:
Rain wears his hair back in a long braid that reaches down to the back of his knees.

Rain's eyes are a deep, shimmering purple color.

He wears an intricate long, sleeveless coat. Deep purple in color with black clasps on the chest. The coat is actually cut down the sides, letting the legs have full movement. Though Rain tends to whip the front flap over his right leg to keep it out of the way when he decides to fight.

Under his trenchcoat he wears a black silk shirt.

His pants are also black with golden embroidery down the side, matching a fuschia belt around his waist.

His boots have metal plates on the shins and knees, with golden straps on the sides, wrapping around his black pants.

He wears silver gauntlets with amythest gemstones on the forearms.

Powers:
Rain would still have his water powers, but now that Nightwolf has the lightning bolt, it's one move Rain could do without.

Hydro Electric Shot:
Rain is able to create a sphere of lightning which incased in a larger sphere of water. The two act in perfect harmony until the outer shell is ruptured, causing the lighting sphere to react violently and electrocute the opponent, who has been soaked by the outer water shell.

(Enh)Floating Hydro-Electric Shot:
Rain can throw his projectile at 3 different altitudes: High, Medium, Low. The projectile actually floats in mid air for 5 seconds or until the opponent lands on it, causing the shot to explode and pop them up for extended juggles.

Spin Cyclone Kick:
Rain delivers to consecutive, Chun-Li style corckscrew kicks, popping the opponent up into the air with the second kick.

(Enh)Spin Cyclone Driver
After the pop of the second kick, Rain comes down with an overhead axe kick, smashing the opponent down onto the ground and bouncing them up again.

Mystic Vapor: His teleport from MKA. Keep that. It was a pretty cool move. Reminded me of Glacius from KI.

Wave Smash:
Rain summons a wave of water to smash against his opponent, knocking them backwards.

X-Ray:Pain Vortex
Rain delivers a palm strike to the opponent's knee, shattering it, as well as the femur and tibia. He turns around and smashes his elbow into the opponent's jaw, shattering their teeth, before turning towards them completely and smashing his palm into their chest, destroying the sternum and blowing the opponent away with a powerful gust of wind.

Fatalities:

Hydrosis:
Rain throws a ball of water at the opponent, soaking them completely. The ball actually breaks up the molecular bonds of the opponent's body causing their flesh to melt almost instantaneously leaving only the skeleton left.

Drink from the Nile
Rain grabs the opponent by their jaw and wrenches it open. He starts to pump water into their system. They try to scream and squirm as water rushes into their system at first filling their lungs and drowning them. The water keeps pouring into their body until their midsection actually rips open, separating the lower half from the torso, which he is still holding by the jaw.

Hara-Kiri:
Flash Boil
Rain turns his body into a liquid before calling down a lightning strike which hyper-boils his body, causing him to evaporate instantly.

Rain is def my fav Ninja.. Let me jump in on this shit rite quick.

Story:
I think it would be awesome if they made a whole story based around jade and rain in this game. Rain and Jade get close to each other while working under khan. They eventually become romantically involved with each other. After khan sends Reptile and Jade to capture Kitana, khan summons rain into his throne room. Knowing that Jade and Kitana have been best friends since childhood he sends rain to keep an eye on Jade and make sure she follows through in her job.

After witnessing Jade indeed taking Kitana's side he confronts them both. Would be a cool part for Jade cuz it could be like does she help her best friend or her lover. Jade of course knows right from wrong stays by kitana's side but trys to convince rain to join them. Rain only really caring about himself feels that he will get a huge promotion for bringing not just 1 but 2 traitors to the mercy of shao khan. At this part you do a tag battle, jade and kitana vs rain and reptile.

If they reboot deception in the future it will give Jade more story as well instead of the just helping Sindel with Kitana thing. When shinjinko comes to her about Rain their can be a lot more behind it instead of just the fact that he's a traitor why she goes after him. (sorry i love both Jade and Rain. Just really want them both to get a great story).

Moves:
Water orb: shoots a ball of water at the enemy. If landed a ring of water forms around the enemy and u can control them for 2 secs.
Ex water orb: controls them 4 secs

Lightening strike: Giant Lightening bolt strikes the ground where the enemy is standing. Shocks the enemy in place if landed for 1 sec. Can't be blocked, have to jump or time a dash out of the way.
Ex Lightening strike: Sends 2 Lightening bolts down.. 1st one shocks enemy and 2nd one bounces enemy in the air.

Windy feet: Rain shoots himself toward the enemy with his water powers and preforms a dropkick.
Ex Windy feet: Rain shoots himself across the whole screen.

New move
Enchanting waters: Rain forms a water bubble around himself for half a sec(requires really good timing). If timed right with an enemies projectile Rain will then absorb it. If rain absorbs 3 projectiles, he'll get rewarded with a bonus effect with his special moves. After preforming one of the special moves you have to absorb 3 projectiles again to have access to the bonus effect.
Ex Enchanting water: Bubbles stays out for 1 second and can absorb ex projectiles.

Water orb bonus effect: Enemy takes damage while they are being controlled
Lightening strike bonus effect: Enemy suffers after shock and can't jump for 3 seconds.
Windy feet: now can be preformed in the air. good jungle finisher

X-ray:
Rain starts this by doing his tempest round house. When the enemy reappears from the other side of the screen over his head he then punches str8 up into their back breaking their spine(think of makoto's ultra 2 from ssf4). The enemy shoots up in the air and then a lightening bolt strikes them back into the ground head 1st breaking their skull.

Fatalities:
NEED THE LIGHTENING STORM BACK! Def my fav fatality from mk3

Had the same idea as someone earlier posted, but i say when Rain forms the water bubble around the enemy he drains all the blood from their body. U see the enemy slowly just deteriorate into just bone.

According to the cartoon mk defenders of the realm, Rain and Kitana had some history together. They almost got married...

Outside of establishing Raiden as a likable character with a dry sense of humor that show and everything it brought to the table is better left forgotten.

Before this game we only knew Scorpion's name. It was pretty awesome to learn the rest after almost 20 years.

Since his half-brother, Daegon, created the Red Dragon, I always thought it would be a cool idea to make Rain the benefactor of the Black Dragon, who plans to use the organization to kill both Taven and Daegon. This would give Rain a sense of authority that his character currently lacks; basically, they could've made any character as convincingly a son or daughter of Argus. If they intend to run with him being a half-God, he shouldn't be a latchkey.

Strictly speaking, Rain made his playable debut in MKT PSX. The console versions of UMK3 and the N64 version of MKT came out a few months later.

in terms of some slight twists in his appearance: i've developed such a watery arms "concept" for Rain (not to be taken too seriously of course) since sub-zero doesn't need his frozen arms in the new MK game anymore - Rain can take advantage of a similar visual solution:

-those black wavy creatures inside his arms are leeches - i can easily imagine them attacking the opponent from inside those watery arms when Rain grabs him..but that is stepping too far aside from Rain's character already..
all in all they should better restore his original UMK appearance with the same Reptile's plastic and choreographic inclination it used to be given - i mean it like 100 % seriously!

That's not necessarily true. Just because he contains that one soul in his body, that does not nullify the other several million also in the body. So, he's not

Edit: Seriously, how could there be any less than a million, or several hundred thousand, people in Ermac? He is the compilation of the souls of people who died by Shao Kahn, either in wars, being assassinated or whatnot, over however many years of Shao Kahn's rule. I'm going to assume Kahn has been ruling for well over several-hundred years. There are definitely more than 3 people in him...and with a madman like Kahn ruling, I'm sure he killed as many threats to him as possible.

There's never been any number given to how many souls inhabbit Ermac...it could be anywhere from 3 to whatever high number. But several million is pushing it.


The fact is, Ermac's ending is dependent on Kahn being defeated...and since we know that will PROBABLY happen, then Ermac's ending will probably come true.

STORY: I'm fine with everything as long as he stays evil and keeps the half-god story in play, I want him to have much to do with his old lovers Jade and Kitana.


ALLIES AND ENEMIES: I don't like the thought of him being in love with Tanya, I would love to see Tanya and him as team but they are both FULL of themselves not on eachother, they probably end up cheating eachother for total rulership, Rain wants to rule alone, with NOBODY else.
Rains enemies are: Liu Kang, Kitana and Jade.
Rain also dislikes Mileena and Baraka and the shokans as he dispites ugly beings.

MOVESET: I hope they give him something entirely new, I never liked ANY of his moves except for the lightning, but Nightwolf already has that too bad... so Rain needs water-moves only, maybe some wind moves if Fujin will never be DLC. I hate the roundhouse bullshit, maybe add a whirlwind effect to that kick to make it more realistic. Otherwise something like Shang Tsungs eruption with water from above instead.

His ranged attack could be a water bubble that engulfs his target and makes you controll him like his old ranged attack from MKT, but this time its a huge water bubble to make it suit him more than some kind of telekinesis-ball that isn't explaned.

Also I agree, Rain is this characters secret name, in this game he also has a real name just like Sub-Zero, Jade or Kitana probably calls him that in the story.

I thought his real name was Bojax Gildersleeve. Could be wrong though.
