Thanks for the gameplay video, but it's unclear if he has a scar or not... I hope he does, because if he doesn't, then all this "unmasked" SZ thing is worthless IMO.

I don't know why anyone ever expected him to be an alt for Cyber-Sub-Zero... I saw that suggested before his actual reveal too, and never got it...

I mean like... I don't remember Unmasked MK3 Sub-Zero ever pulling ice bombs out of his chest...

And I damn sure don't remember him having a self-destruct mechanism, ala his fatality.

Yeah, but Cyrax and Sektor's human forms were blank slates. They could easily adhere their human moves to their robot moves, because no one had ever seen their human moves. We HAVE seen human Sub-Zero, and he's never once had the ability to blow himself up at will.

Furthermore, Cyrax and Sektor had the luxury of "Special treatment" to MAKE their alts work. I don't think anyone will deny that they have twice as much work put into their alts as any other character... and that extra work takes extra time and effort...

Time and effort that I doubt very highly NRS is willing to put in on a pallette swapped alt... that plays no role in the story or any cutscenes... which they're giving away for free.

....a few things:

1) I love the sexy MK3 Unmasked Sub-Zero look. Unmasked Subby is probably my favorite look for him....so, I guess an unmasked Subby is better than no unmasked Subby at all.

2) However, I really do hate the pallet-swap MKU ninja outfit they gave him. His look has been raped. I know why they did it, I honestly do, but, fuck, I would have rather payed for the original and faithful MK3 costume design (no stupid loin-cloth, no black shirt covering his body, no ninja gloves, no design in pants, etc) instead of getting this for free.

3) After the revelation of MK2 Kitana and Jade I've pretty much lost all interest in this free retro looks. I expect we are getting even more annoying and dull ninjas next to this (insulting) "MK3" Sub-Zero. We are getting an MKU ninja now (probably Scorpion...yawn) and then we are probably getting the rest of the MK2 and MKU ninjas that have not been released yet.

Ugh.

4) Hopefully they are still planning to do more retro looks for the rest of the cast or even DLC Fatalities (KISS OF DEATH!!!!), even if they are not for free. I'm far more interested in those looks than the ninjas. Enough is enough.

4) Despite the huge flaws, I guess I'm sort of happy we'll be having an unmasked Sub-Zero. I was disappointed he didn't get that look for a costume in the game. Makes him stand out, be more unique, and feel more real and palpable than looking just like another ninja. So, unmasked Subby is cool...even though I don't agree that the design is not faithful to the original look.

5) And I applaud what IceBaby said (even if it was a joke): He easily gets a shirt but Sonya doesn't get to have one under her badass vest?....Bullshit.

This would be a 100% MK3 Sub-Zero.



However, I think what they did looks good enough. I'm just glad they gave him his MK3 head at least. If the head looks like John Turk then maybe there's hope for a 'Kerri Hoskins' Sonya.

Regarding Sonya: she's probably among the top 2 most requested retros by the community, but, there are still oh, so many poor ninjas without their MK2 and MKU looks, so, maybe we'll have to wait a bit more...

It would be a snap for Unmashed Subby to preform CSZ special's. The fatalities would look awkward tho. So in conclusion, the skin goes to...Human Subby!

It makes perfect sense to release a batch of Unmasked Sub-Zero, Cyborg Smoke and Freddy Krueger considering that all of them would be non-canon. An exceptional opportunity to release popular and demanded (minus Freddy) characters for NRS. Although I would've preferred an MK character over Freddy, I can't blame NRS for caring about their finance for one (see: Midway's end) thus I will ultimately download Freddy Krueger too.

Why do people keep talking about a human alt for Cyber Sub? WE ALREADY HAVE A FREAKIN HUMAN COSTUME FOR HIM!!!!!!!!!! The unmasked UMK3 Sub costume will obviously be for regular Sub-Zero.

Unmasked Sub-Zero look is my favorite in MK3. I would like that in the story mode he could appear, but they prefer to transform him in a cyborg.

By the way, I still want Mileena MK2 costume and all UMK3 Ninjas suits.

Cyber Smoke would be a palette-swap. They already have the klassic cyber ninja model. If we don't get him with Freddy, we'll likely get him later on with other Klassic costumes.

I've got to say, personally loved the addition of Kitana MK2 costume, but this really floored me. So, so many good memories. I know every game under the sun pimps on nostalgia these days but truly, nice work NRS. My favourite klassic costume by a mile.
