Hmmm, On the original topic: Why cant the MK Team make female faces attractive? I kinda disagree with this.

However I think the "eye candy" characters certainly haven't been as attractive as you would think they would be, I mean Kitana looked like she didn't sleep in her renders in MK:DA.

They all had this sort of plastic porn star face. Plump lips, razor sharp cheek bones.

And I thought Sheeva had the best looking face in MKA.

MK Vs DCU came along and it was like Alex Ross pulled them aside and showed them how female faces should look like. And to be honest they do look good in MK Vs DCU.

We've only seen Mileena who they seem to have gone into a new design with face-wise. So we really can't tell at the moment.

I think the majority of the females have very attractive faces. Sonya looked amazing in MK vs DCU and Kitana has always looked pretty along with Jade for example. Some of the character renders have left alot to be desired and haven't been up to scratch in terms of facial features for the females but they look great in the games.

Welcome to the world of fighting games.
If anything, MK has some of the least ditsy girls.

You mean this? While I think Li Mei is one of the classier (alt costume aside, sigh) females, there's very little chance that top is going to stay secured in a fight. Is there much need for the split in her top all the way to the midriff? I mean come on, seriously.

On topic with faces, good lord that's more horrible than I remember it being.

As an artist, I feel that most of them look pretty wierd and goofy looking. I'm not talking about just females but also males. Sub-Zero's MKDA bothered the hell out of me and I hardly played as him ever since! I think MK women stands out a lot because most of them don't wear masks like the males. The only female face that looks decent in MKD is Ashrah's and Nitara's (and I'm not talking about attractive...just what looks anatomically correct) MKvsDC is way better but they could have made WonderWomen look better...

you wanted a true female warrior and Lei Mei is your girl
but if you want to talk about wardrobe malfunctions lets not forget Mileena in MKDA her top cut on the bottom making it look like her boobs are going to fall out the bottom of her shirt at any moment.winkwink

Their faces aren't what bugged me, it's their slutty costumes and lack of bras etc. I mean seriously...why put your females in string bakinis, with no bras, give them giant breasts, and have them wear high heels into battle? Even if there's supposed to be a character that's personality is whorish, why taint the rest of the females in the same fashion? Sonya for instance, should have a bra on. This over exaggerated DOA boob bouncing physics is just just stupid and unrealistic. I don't know about you, but I highly doubt a female fighter would dress in Mileena's outfit, or many other outfits in MK. My favorite outfits for the females are the ones that are artistic, badass, and fit the personality of the character...such as Li Mei(beyond the stupid low middrift), Ashrah, and Sonya's(beyond the lack of bra). Why they try and appeal to all the youngans who get off to chicks in video games is beyond me.

Agreed. Too bad we don't see more females like that; I know what you mean blackcyborg. Imo we should atleast get more distinctive alternate costumes for the females, that way there won't be no slutty similarities.

Female athletes, even runners try to secure their breasts from moving as much as possible. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why, but I suppose the complaints of an extreme minority are going to go unheard. This is the video game industry after all, and God forbid the females wear any clothing in our games!

Rant over, maybe.

Broken record, I know, but sex appeal is part of the MK aesthetic. Sonya doesn't have a bra because they're being consistent.

I think Mileena looks surprisingly hot in the new game. As hot as a girl with with teeth like that can be anyway. In the PS2 era games faces looked a bit messed up and weren't to my taste. Kitana looked pretty hot in the loading screens though.

I think the character models in the new game look a lot better so far. In fact I think they look really really good, better than in most other fighting games. When I say "good", i'm not really talking about technical details, polygon counts, texture resolutions and shader models. I'm talking just about aesthetics. It remains to be seen how good the other individual characters will be, but it bodes well.

Imagine MK vs DC Sonya, wearing her alternate outfit - the dress "whites" uniform with thigh high boots. That would be totally awesome. I was going to get this game anyway, but if they get that right, maybe i'll buy like 10 copies.

No, and I am assuming by your reaction that you are part of the demographic that this crap is aimed at. These outfits are impractical and stupid. They appeal to the little tweenies who will take whatever hints of sexuality, whether real or fake, to bring out the lotion and feel naughty. Like I said before, if it fits a certain character I could understand, but there's absolutely no reason why a character like Sonya should be fighting with no bra on or a thong sticking out. It doesn't tickle my pickle or wet my whistle, and it just comes off as childish and immature.

I am not saying everything in the game needs to be serious either, but to go against everything logical and contradict a character's personality traits is idiotic. The MK team's sense of humor at times comes down to nothing more than bouncing boobs and fart jokes...literally. This is a game directed towards the 17+ demographic, and if they want some humor in their games, they should fire whatever 5th grader they have for writing, and hire someone who is actually clever and subtle. If their aim isn't humor and is strictly sex appeal, I have no idea what 17+ year old would rather watch some boobs bounce on a video game, than to just go look at porn or get...dare I say...an actual girlfriend?

So please tell me it's actually you that is joking, because if you honestly think a bunch of chicks dressed as sluts in a video game. who seem to have a couple jello molds strapped to their chest is either funny, attractive, or cool, THAT is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.

Yeah. And what's with all the guys showing off their pecs and abs? Even if there's supposed to be a character that's personality is a poser, why taint the rest of the males in the same fashion? Johnny Cage for instance, should have a vest on. This over exaggerated Men's Fitness muscularity is just just stupid and unrealistic. I don't know about you, but I highly doubt a male fighter would dress in Jax's outfit, or many other outfits in MK. My favorite outfits for the males are the ones that are artistic, badass, and fit the personality of the character...such as Scorpion(beyond the stupid exposed guns), Shujinko, and Bo Rai Cho's(beyond the lack of bra). Why they try and appeal to all the youngans who get off to guys in video games is beyond me.

Well, yes. There is. Reason being because it looks good. At the end of the day, that's all that matters. That's why I love MK: because when it comes to choosing "colorful" and "realistic," they choose colorful.

If physics are your problem, there's no costume you couldn't rationalize with story elements. They could say Mileena's suit fabric is "enchanted," or that Sonya's top "utilizes certain technologies" and you could render any costume practical. If one responds, "that's stupid," well, what about Batman's cape? Or Morpheus' trench coat? These things are terribly unpractical, but they're cool, and that's what's important.

If you're arguing that the costumes are bad because they're sexist, that's a different issue, and I don't really have an opinion on the matter. But if you say they look bad, then I have to disagree.

There's a difference in what you are implying and what I am implying. Any male fighters who choose to wear no shirt, or tights, or no sleeves etc. That does not go against their personality traits, and most importantly, it's not impractical for martial arts fighting. For a female to be wearing high heels, no bra, and a thin bakini...that is not comfortable or practical in battle. Her tits would be sore and would surely pop out within the first minute of the fight, and the high heels would be extremely uncomfortable in fast paced movement and terrible for balancing purposes etc.

I realize it's just a game, and obviously you can't make EVERYTHING realistic instead of cool and colorful as stated by Temp, but there's certain things that just go beyond being colorful and interesting. Ashrah's, Li Mei's, and Sonya's costumes are all colorful and unique to their character, yet the MK team feels the nees to always throw in parts or whole costumes that just scream impractical or unnecessary. You can have femaqles look unique and interesting, yet give them a realistic or practical approach at the same time. If they want to have some of them be sexy, that's fine, do it with their mannerisms and maybe have part of their wardrobe be suggestive. You can do that while still having it remain logical. Li Mei's costume would be perfect if the middrift weren't so low, and if she had a bra on. If she wants to show cleavage, that's fine and makes sense if she wants a possible seductive destraction in combat, but you can obtain that in a much more logical sense by having a bra etc. on as well. Sonya however, her being all business she shouldn't have that kind of stuff.

You say at the end of the day all that matters is how it looks etc., but shouldn't character personality trait consistency and individuality come first? If I had to choose between a fighter with a bunch of colorful females, or one where each female looked and acted different according to the way their personality is, I would definitely take the latter as I would assume most would. You contradict all character establishment when you place them all under a blanket where they don't dress according to their character traits beyond the basic "Sonya is wearing military garb" etc.

Sure you could say all of this has magical elements to hole their clothing together etc., but that just seems like a cheap copout way to give a reason to have no bras etc. Even if that were true, and they could hold their clothing to their skin using some sort of power, their breasts are flopping around like crazy, and I doubt that is ideal comfortableness.

With all this said, this isn't something I REALLY care about. Is it annoying? Sure. Would I rather it not be this way? Of course. But do I sit there and play the game and complain to myself or give it any thought? No. I usually don't even play as the female fighters, but from a fan of the series and the character's stories etc. It is annoying that they throw all that out the window in order to have unrealistic boob bouncing physics and slutty looking women to appeal to DOA and SC fans, and further being seen as "edgy".

It's hard enough to make a damn airplane!!!

Besides... the MK team have more things to work on than trying to make hot chicks for u boys to stroke your salamis to lol.

I mean come on, lol... who seriously sits there and "checks out" a video game character model when they're playing? if u do, consider washing ur mouth out with buckshot!!!
