I like Johnny, always have.

But it's hard to think of reasons for him to be in games because he's never really been part of the plot, he's always just a tag-along.

For some strange reason people started hating him when he died in MK3 and then was some how alive again in MK4. Even though this only happened once, everyone starting saying it was a constant thing. But will anyone say about the same thing about Scorpion, Sub-Zero or any other character that has died yet stills come back. No. Guess Johnny isn't 'dark' enough for the general MK fan.

To me I like Johnny. He's the comic relief that keeps from getting too dark. He even drives Raiden a little crazy (the look on the thundergod's face in a MKSM when Johnny says "Lay it on me" is proof of that) which is always good for a laugh.

Cage is one of the greatest MK characters and definately in my top five

He can't help it if he offends people because of it.

Because he's a shallow, token character who offers nothing really to the storyline besides "comic relief." It is possible to be comic relief AND useful to the plot at the same time.

Course, there are some fans, who feel there shoul be no comic relief characters in Mortal Kombat whatsoever. Can't say I agree with that completely, but there are some who feel that way.

His deaths and retcons were rather stupid, but at this point, that's a moot point since death itself has become a joke in Mortal Kombat and we've been subjected to worse retcons.

Overall, he'a rather pointless character who takes up space that only really gets the credit he does because of Linden Ashby's performance in the Mortal Kombat movie and because he happens to be one of the "original" sacred cows from MK1.
And personally, I think it's extremely annoying that people insist he should a 8th or 9th chance to get interesting, while newer characters with real potential won't even get a second just because "he came first."

I hate Johnny Cage because of Daniel Pesina, the actor who portrayed him in MK2. The guy went and did an ad for a game called Blood Storm, dressed as Johnny Cage. The game was a flop, and Daniel Pesina was fired before, or during, the production of MK3, which is why MK3 had no ninjas, as the guy also portrayed them in MK2 as well as Johnny Cage. (BTW, Sub-Zero is not a ninja, he's Lin Kuei. To give him a title outside his clan's name, assassin would be accurate).

Another reason I hate the character is because he has been resurrected too many times, and his storyline has never really changed, except for MKA, but that storyline was crap anyways.

I like Cage because he's awesome in, you know, the actual gameplay.

and Dun, I respect you alot, but you seem to care more about the storyline than the actual gameplay, which I don't get. I mean, if you're looking for a great storyline, a fighting game should be one of the last places to check, considering that gameplay is always the top priority.

If they didn't want us to value the game's story, they wouldn't have come up with such a deep one. Get lost if you're just going to troll people just because they're interested in things you're not.

Gameplay is not an excuse in this case: with some effort, any character can play good and Cage has been around long enough and has been an empty character long enough to be killed off without regret.

What's really funny....Johnny Cage was originally suppose to be the hero of the game and not Liu Kang. The original MK game was suppose to be based off one of Van Damn's movies, but the Midway couldn't get the rights. So the sprites for Van Damn-like character became Johnny Cage. And the game renamed Mortal Kombat. The reason why he is a clown is that they meant for him to poke fun at martial arts action actors that were too full of themselves.

but..look at that fantastic universe that marvel is now ...at first the deadpool character was hated,loathed and so on without a eal reason(don't telle me he is a copy from deathstroke,it's not true).
but look now...
the wolverine movie had so much success just because deadpool was in it,a deadpool movie is in works,and right now deadpool comics are the top sellin comics in north america.

except for origins,deadpool have no storyline,no purpose to fit in the marvel universe.he kills for money,but he have a good side that sometime pops up.

Johnny Cage is just annoying.Seriously he's a famous actor who somehow find himself with a shit load of trained warrior.How the hell?When was the last time you seen Chuck Norris(who is an 8th degree blackbelt last i heard) or Jackie Chan on the news for winning a Martial Arts Tournament?I don't know I have to admit I hate the guy because he's a little abercrombie model looking fagget but he is growing on me so I don't completely hate him.

I like him, though it may be a retarded reason, because he managed to get snuck into the GB version of the original MK.
