Yeah. But there was the 'thought to be' omission from the GB version of the game. Turns out that there are a two codes that enable you to either play against him, or as him. They are Gameshark codes BTW. He's got Sonya's sprites and his only move as Shang Tsung's fireball.

A lot of people tend to take the game too seriously. My guess is people hate Cage because his personality is a bit more goofy and less serious than some characters and they overreact to it and say he's useless and the only reason he's in it is because he's a classic character. The truth is he's one of the most important characters in the franchise. There's a reason that the people in the first game keep coming back. It's because they're the most important. Cage is the classic comic relief character. Everything has a comic relief. Without Cage Mk would be really depressing.

And the only reason I think he even died in the first place is because the actor who played him sued midway and then got kicked off the team so they had nobody to play him in MK3. I don't know what people are saying about him constantly dieing and coming back either, he only died twice as far as I know, once in MK3 and once between Deadly alliance and Deception, but everyone died and came back in that one, but possessed this time. Then spirit Liu comes in and saves him and everyone else. So that's two deaths in what, eight games? Kung Lao died twice, too, just read Liu Kang's MK3 ending, or should I say he "Faded" into a new life. People don't complain about that. Thay don't say "OMG KUNG LAO DIED HE SHOULDN'T COME BACK NYUNNNNGHHHHH!!!!!!!!"

Then there's the people who say people only like Cage because of the movie. Like one other guy... they made him Austrailian... he has a metal face or something... I forget. But Even the game developers like that guy better in the movie. The changed him from Asian-American to Austrailian in the game itsself. Now Linden Ashby was a pretty authentic Johnny Cage, so I don't see what the big deal is here. I think people are just making up exuses to hate them here.

Yeah so I guess anyone who's that way is just a hater. Guess there's a lot of them. There's my rant about Cage haters, if this helped anyone realize that Johnny Cage is awesome, you're welcome. If anyone disagrees, I don't care.

Not everybody hates Johnny Cage, I think he has been mishandled as a character since Trilogy/4. He finally got some props in MKA, but now we are going back in time to start all over, and knowing the MK team, he'll be mishandled again.

I don't hate him, nor do I like him either. He's somewhat classic -- appearing in first 2 games and all, but his design is really weak. But I don't mind seeing him in new games anyway. And as about killing him off... Seriously, he's a perfect guy for that. He's nice, but he's nothing special, as I already said. So it's kinda a bit sad that he dies but we don't lose pretty much anything. Just get a good lil' drama in the story to spice it up.

For some reason I also have always liked johnny cage. I rember being real young playing the first MK and doing the low blow for the first time I laughed so hard. Hes always been something different hes a cocky wise cracking douchebag whats not to like.Dont get me wrong ive always loved the MK story line but sometimes character ideas can grow alittle overdone and stale first it was the pallet swapped ninjas, then it was the cybernetic units. But cage has always been a humorous change of pace for me. Also hes always been a fairly easy character for people first getting started because of his usually easy combos.

I love Johnny Cage! He's just as deep as Sub-Zero or Scorpion story wise. Nothing's changed for any of them. I guess people don't like him because he's not a ninja? I hope he doesn't get killed off like some people are calling. Different strokes. I like individual and unique characters like him, not the ninjas...

I think the real reason why people dislike Johnny is that he is too normal and reminds people of themselves or someone they know. Kinda sad if you think about it.

BTW I know a 'Johnny Cage' in real life...he's a real clown almost all the time and whats worse he's the only morning person at work. Nothing worse than a happy morning person who is a clown when you have to drag yourself into a building that you wish would just blow up. But he is the type of person you can depend on if something really goes bad..and he's knows bad since he is a recently retired (or whatever you call leaving the military after almost a lifetime of service) US Army medic who patched up the boys in the field.

He's just too awesome. He's like Captain Awesome. In fact he's so awesome that some people can't even perceive how incredibly awesome he is, and some people are just jealous that they can't learn the way of Awesome that Johnny Cage posesses and so they live to destroy his awesome image.

Johnny Cage is comic relief, and I love him for that. He's an egotistical, womanizing, smug, crotch-punching douchebag, but he's got skill and he's a good guy at heart. I've grown to love and accept his eccentricities.

Johnny Cage was one of my top 7 fighters in MK1.

And he even made my top 12 in MKII.

Seriously though, Johnny Cage is awesome. Cheesy, full of himself, ridiculous and awesome.

And I hate the tattoo too, but I always hate tattoos.

People hate Cage because he is the only character in the game who is not 100% serious the entire time. Serioulsy every other character in the series has a stick up their ass (no disrespect). God forbid there should be one character who is different. I honestly don't get most of the hate. Especially when we look at him compared to characters from other franchises.

Han Solo-Star Wars-self centered smart-ass-people love him

Ash-Army of Darkness- self centered smart ass- people love him

Johnny Cage- MK- self centered smart ass- people hate him

Can someone explain this logic to me?

Even I am curious as to why Cage is killed by the MK storymakers.

MK1 movie really showed Johnny's potential as he did away with someone rather something like GORO - then in annihilation he was killed, how stupid.
Instead of killing him , he could have been enslaved by Quanchi in Netherrealms - so that in a third movie there is a rescue mission surmounted by his friends - Sonya ,Raiden and Liu Kang with a team of Jax,Jade,Kitana,Sub-Zero,Night-Wolf,Stryker and Kabal.

As far as the movies go and even in the first part of the MK9 Komplete game storyline,Sonya seems to have a soft corner for Johnny always - since she is the only one to be emotionally ruptured by his demises.

As far as my playing goes, Cage is the only character I am so comfortable while gaming.
The character has some raw powers and is in fact an American Kickboxer.
Force balls, ball buster, dash kick and nut punch X-ray move along with the absolutely beautiful flip kicks simply adds to visual vigor while playing.

The movies omitted Cage because he doesn't seem to have any super human power - like fire-balls of Liu Kang,Cybernetic hands like Jax or icewrecking abilities like Sub-Zero.
But given Cage's show of strength in MK9 game.....I guess the energy balls he use and the massive powers all in green that he comes up with in combos can be attributed to his body gaining nuclear energy and manifesting itself after a serious exposure.

This can be showed in a movie where he acquired this exposure in the nether realms.

Also some storylines and origins dictates him to be the last one of his warrior kind- some sort of Atlantic descendant - wherein due to this his genetic make up can absorb radiation and make them go ballistic in his combats.

This makes him Hypercool just like Riddick - also in the movies he needs to be portrayed by an actor of serious screen presence like Scott Adkins, since Jean Van Damme is already too aged- but would have been the best.

Actually I liked how they tried to give him depth in Trilogy/4, The fact that death changed him an bit was an nice development, too bad it went out the window. sad

I've always loved Johnny Cage; he was my favorite back in the 90s. Without his presence the games would be too damn serious. But I agree that he's more often than not been mishandled story-wise. I mean, how many times can you kill a guy off and bring him back already? It got ridiculous. His MK9 bio is pretty silly as well but his role in the story mode makes up for it. Oh, and his portrayal in the first movie was damn flawless, of course.

And as to whoever was complaining about his tattoo...please, it makes perfect sense, given his egomaniacal personality. One NBA player who's now retired has a tattoo of himself on his shoulder.

I admit I didn't like him much in the earlier games, overshadowed by more 'serious' presences Scorp, Sub-Z, Reptile, Raiden etc., but in the 3D era i just 'got' him more and appreciated his shallow background & comedic persona mixed with his noble new purpose.

I'm not really a fan of the big "Johnny" across his chest, and much preferred the MKDA-MKA era dragon on his back.
