Sub zero (yes he looks like one, but hes a warrior, he not stealthy he uses ice power and brute strength, that dosent sound like a ninja

Smoke - the only ninja in the game IMO he uses actaul stealth powers he is your NINJA (yes hes part of the lin kuei but hes the closest thing to a ninja in the game).

U want samuri, Kahn. (sure he may not satisy your saumuri urge) but there are pottential dlc characters who could fill that role. Kenshi, and me lei.

As far as a hand to hand combat game goes "ninjas" make more sense then samuris, soul calibur is a good game for that stuff

I hate the whole "if the person wears a mask it is a ninja!" stereotype which people seem to have gotte into their minds. As said, Scorpion is the only ninja! A sucky one, but still...

The long answer is that they're not all ninjas:

Scorpion=A ninja

Sub-Zero= A masked Chinese assassin

Reptile= A reptile in a mask

Ermac= A warrior of souls, wearing face wraps

Rain= A prince who wears a mask

Smoke= Another Chinese assasin in a mask

Noob= An undead Chinese assassin.

Tremor= I don't know, I don't care.

It's not important what is what in the series, but that calling others than Scorpion for a ninjas is simply the wrong term to use. An assassin is an alot wider term than ninja. A ninja is something specific.

I usually only consider the original MK1 and 2 ninjas as ninjas: Scorpion, Sub, Reptile, Smoke, Jade, Kitana, Mileena.

I know some of them are assassins and warriors or whatnot, but to me those are the only ones it seems appropriate to call ninjas.

Quit proving to us how they're something other than ninjas. We know by now that Scorpion is technically the only REAL ninja. We just generalize them as "ninjas" because they all started off as palette-swap ninjas. Because back then, that's all they were, and to many people, that's all they are now.

So you can be technical all you want, but stop acting like it's such an abominable sin to call them all "ninjas".

It's no sin, but one thing is to be ignorant of the facts and another to outright ignore the facts. Saying that other characters than Scorpion is a ninja is like saying Jade ethnicity is something other than Edenian. It's simply incorrect.

Simply incorrect, yes, but it doesn't give anyone the right to be so uppity whenever someone makes a mere generalization. You can't expect someone to refer to the "ninjas" as, "a ninja, a lizard with a mask, a warrior with a lot of souls who is also masked, a wraith with a mask, a prince with a mask, a Chinese assassin with a mask...etc...". No, they'll just refer to them collectively as "ninjas".

Even Scorpion's not really a ninja per se anymore.... he's an undead netherrealm assassiny skeleton man thingymabob. Don't think he really needs ninja-esque subtlety anymore ;)

Well, that's just pure laziness then. And I am not being "uppity" (is that even a word?) about it, it just frustrates me that people are delibrately stating something wrong, even when they know better. It rather displays those people's stupidity which I am sure that's not the intention.

Is it really "stupidity" to generalize a set of characters with a shared history from the MK1-3 era as "ninjas" for ease of conversation? Everyone knows what you're talking about when you say "mk ninjas" so over specification when talking about sub, scorp, ermac etc as a group just takes time.

Much like saying "jade looks asian" or "jade looks brazilian". Obviously she's not either of those things in the narrative but it's a real world comparison to make things clearer and simpler.

"ninjas" are just what the fan base called them because they all looked the same due to technical limitations in the old games but now they all have their own unique look so they all really arent "ninjas" anymore. At least thats what I think

Frost is more of a ninja than Reptile or Sub-Zero. That's for sure.

Yeah, seriously, I understand a lot of characters are not technically "ninjas" by the legal definition. But I'm sure 90% of the people who call them ninjas (me being one of them) is calling them that, based on their appearance...not their actions.

If you show a kid MK1 Reptile and ask him what he is they will tell you "a ninja". Popular culture has burned the stereotypical ninja outfit into our heads. And from what I know, most Ninjas didnt even wear those outfits. But if you show that outfit to someone, they will say "ninja".

Its the same deal with how people call Dr. Frankenstein's monster just "Frankenstein". If someone says "he looks like Frankenstein" nobody will think of the Doctor. Even though its incorrect, popular culture has made is acceptable for the monster to be recognized as "Frankenstein".

So if a character looks like a ninja...they are allowed to be referred to as ninjas. Sure its not historically correct, but it doesnt have to be.

And note I'm not trying to talk trash to any of you who have been defining ninjas by accurate terms. I'm just trying to make a point.

With all that being said. I don't agree with who wrote this topic because not only are these characters not actual ninjas...but only Sub Zero and Scorpion even look like the stereotypical ninja still. Therefore, the game is NOT filled with ninjas.
