According to Game Informer, Raiden's X-Ray is a little different:
Raiden's X-ray launches opponents into the sky above the cloud level. He flies up to their body, grabs their spine, and lights them up with arcs of blue electricity before throwing them back down.
Interesting. I'm still wondering whether Beran correctly confirmed there would be multiple X-rays (in his interview with Angry Joe.)

I'd do it for the same reason you'd lick a penis. xD
On a serious note, I'm really hoping we get the Cage family.
Forcing the freaking characters to have 4 fights in a row messes up a cool, deep story that follows multiple characters around.
If you can't see that, you're freaking blind.
For example: Sonya Bland has the 4 first battles in the storymode, after these battles she will be degraded into either a punching bag or a Hi-I'm-Sonya-I-like-to-stand-in-the-crowd-and-do-nothing-interesting-after-my-four-forced-fights-type-of-girl. Oh and I fought with my husband too, because they couldn't fit a more interesting 4th battle in my forced-freaking-time battle system because many characters weren't introduced yet.
Much like with Jax, who got his freaking iron arms for freaking nothing.
Got it? Clever girls.

Yes, it is padding but if only the important fights were the only ones featured then the story mode would be much shorter.
Secondly, the story mode in MKX will be non-linear meaning multiple storylines will be happenning together. We have not seen anything from the MKX story mode so I would reserve judgement until tangible information is released.

Well, i'm rather disappointed now and releaved later, than the other way around.
I'll cheer when i'm wrong, but I'm down now after reading that comment from Boon, which shocked the hell out of me because now I probably not going to like what they did with the story.
One boring good guy vs good guy fight that really doesn't make sense and i'm out of the story. And I had such a good hopes for this storymode as I thought they would have learned from that horrid MK9 mistake.
Too bad most humans are so easily pleased.

I hate that they chose to do story mode with character chapters yet again. I don't want stupid fights like Raiden vs Sonya in MK9. Every character doesn't need to have 4 fights.

Well there is no need to be so emotional just because of one remark. Like I said, wait for concrete news about the story mode then make judgements. We have not seen anything from the story mode. We do not know the plot, how it works or how it ties itself together. There is no information known about it other then the fact that it is non-linear unlike Mortal Kombat 9 and that it is chapter based like Mortal Kombat 9. The game has only been announced for two months so I would wait until they show something from the story mode then make proper judgements.
I'll make a judgement on the 4-battles system because I know it's gonna fail.
You don't have to be a psychic for that.
I have a problem with that system, I don't care how they do it, I just don't like it. They should shuffle the characters instead of forcing 4 fights out of their thick hard thumbs.
I already know that I don't like the fact that early characters won't have big roles anymore in later chapters. That is how that system works, it shifts attention to one character, the others become its baggage.

Pointless banter aside...
I'm a bit disappointed in how they plan to make Story Mode in chapters again. It just seems a bit forced, but hopefully they will do a better job this time around.
I had initially hoped Story Mode would be character based - you choose a character from the roster, then plays his/her point of view of the story from start to end. But oh well, we'll see how it plays out. ^^

What I'd like to know is if the story for MKX was really good would the format still ruin the narrative?
I don't mind the chapter format at all. Yeah we might get a pointless fight or two, but people have to remember that casuals play the game too. And the chapter system is really good for new players. It gives them enough fights to have some comfort in a fighter and gives them variety in who they play.
I'll admit the chapter format isn't the best when it comes to the storytelling. But it certainly doesn't make the story mode bad at all.

casuals should spar and fight online for all I care, they don't care for the story anyway. The only thing they would say afterward is: He! Wait! Why wasn't Freddy Kruger (enter any other guest character here) in the story! BAD!

That is the case in Mortal Kombat 9 but since the story mode is NON-LINEAR then it means that multiple arcs can happen at the same time. Essentially each chapter for any character can begin anywhere on the timeline unlike Mortal Kombat 9 where it was all linear one after another. Maybe it will tell the story of how some chracters became how they are. It will definately tell the story of how Sub-Zero came to be for example. Maybe some characters will not even reach the 25 years later. There are so many possibilities now that the slate has been wiped clean and NRS can go back and forth through the time period at will.
If it are flashbacks they could be fun, but if it are future-view battles I would hate it and it would make the game chaotic time-travel shit.
So for example.
First Chapter:
Sonya Blade = Spars with Johnny Cage in the gym
Sonya Blade - fights Kano in a dream/flashback
Sonya Blade = Fights A new Black dragon character in the future.
Sonya Blade = Fights D'vorah in the present.
This would still be bad.

If casuals don't care for the story, why'd they play the story mode? In Injustice's story mode, they had to dumb down the AI if the player kept losing? Why? Because they were complaining about that in MK9 citing that they couldn't finish the story.
They might not know or care about it as much as we do, but its important to remember we're not the only ones who play it.

Well the storymode would be better for fans, if they keep turning the storymode into a bloody mess they will lose the true fans of the game in the progress.
