What's black and white and read all over? Ed Boon's twitter feed (@noobde) since he updated his avatar and profile background! [Update: Who's Next? Is This The First Promo Poster For Mortal Kombat Sequel?]

In what is sure to go down as one of the most compelling moments of the hype train -- the NetherRealm Studios Project Lead has switched his old question mark avatar out for a white circle on black.

The cryptic meaning behind the geometric development is too vague for us to nail down any definitive theories, but the Mortal Kombat franchise is certainly no stranger to circles.

With less than a week to go in the Boon prompted countdown to June 2nd -- this could signal a place holder for the long awaited return of the classic MK dragon logo! There's also Shinnok's Amulet -- a suitably Euclidean artefact at the centre of the original Mortal Kombat 4 plot -- which we expect to see reprised in some fashion in a sequel. Twit: Shock as Ed Boon enters his stark minimalist phase.

This may seem like a lot of noise to make about a simple aesthetic choice on a Twitter feed, but it's not without its baring. With Warner Brothers forsaking many of the traditional channels utilized by Midway before them; Ed Boon and his Twitter livestream have become a primary source for reliable promotional information and teasers, as well as a direct conduit for fans.

Ed certainly isn't the only NetherRealm favourite tweeting up enticements! The original live-action Raiden and real life J. Mokap - Carlos Pesina - made it known he's been back in the motion capture studio! Granted, he seems to be in and out of the ball suit periodically, but we enjoyed the Kombat-centric tease:

Is this Lin Kuei laff-fest further confirmation that a Mortal Kombat sequel is imminent? We like to think so, and so do you! 80.9% of the voting MKOmmunity think that's what we'll see come this year's E3! Helping inspire this confidence is voice actress Karen Strassman (Kitana, Mileena), whose resumé included "Mortal Kombat 2" until recently [full story]. Of course, Kiefer Sutherland revealed similar involvement, but there have been a few doubts.

What ever is coming, we expect to know what it is very soon! The June 2nd countdown lands right around the pre-E3 timing of previous launch trailers for Mortal Kombat (2010) & Injustice: Gods Among Us (2012). For those playing at home, June 2nd is also a potential Mortal Monday -- as hinted by the official YouTube station!

So, how does the mystery white circle play into this?...
