While CAPCOM fucked the launch up with barebones fighter I still have to say... The gameplay is giving me a blast. Far more fun than Mortal Kombat X.

Online is working really well for me as well.

Still either CAPCOM will update some content soon or maybe this was the last SF for a long time

People seem to want to compare business plans of the two and it's really apples and oranges.

Street Fighter, though I know nothing about the games themselves, I know goes for the long haul with multiple variants, additions, and updates all built upon same base game.

Mortal Kombat, with I guess the exceptions of UMK3, Gold, and Trilogy, offers a main title game more frequently than Street Fighter but that game has shorter legs.

MKX has a shorter shelf life, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. While, yes, support and updates are nice. It's also nice to have something entirely new more frequently than 8 years. It's all a matter of preference.

Given the resources available to NRS now its not asking too much for them to support the games for a few years with content before pulling the plug. We should have gotten a few years out of MK9 . Instead we got one DLC pack [despite being promised more if Freddy sold well] and that was it. Now 10 is not even a year and they're already pulling the plug after XL drops this coming week.

More content confirmed after KP2.

I don't know why some people keep on posting bullshits, as id they weren't able to read.

It's official, unless NRS changes its mind, more content after KP2.

i'm almost positive they're going to cancel whatever shit they got planned to work on Injustice 2. At this point with NRS, seeing is believing.

Anybody who takes Boon or anyone from NRS at their word is a fool at this stage.

How quickly the 21st century has spoiled us. I never go into a game expecting anything more than the base game. Honestly, I think it is asking too much to expect long term support. We are in no-way owed anything more than what we have purchased. If Capcom failed to produce their intended add-ons, thats a failing of the customer expecting something to be provided that isn't already on the disc.

Yep, I have checked and the sales information is really bad. We will see how that affects their plans though. I cannot help but think prolonging the lifespan of SF4 was extremely detrimental to this game. People get extremely tired of playing the game and it kills hype and expectation for the next one. Hopefully NRS do not follow suit. Hopefully after KP2 we get minor updates and then we get a new game later.

but what about US sales? did it flop in america? the xbox exclusion could have hindered sales as well.

It is a shame though, Capcom really seemed to want to overhaul what killed SF in the past by getting rid of those greedy re-releases and making things more casual friendly but it seems to be going the same way again X_X

Not releasing the game on Xbox one definitely hurt sales. You are excluding millions of potential consumers.

I have not seen American sales numbers but it flopped big time in the UK and Japan. The only thing on the American side is that on amazon this game was out of the top 50 sellers in its launch week. Extremely poor but we will have to for NPD results to make sure and Capcom's financial report.

The combos are easier to do but that does fix the problems that people have. Lack of single player modes and content. The fact that the game requires a stick to play properly. Graphics are mediocre and just a slight step up from Street Fighter IV etc etc.

Yeah I think a lot of people are convinced that this will be a better, more complete game down the road based on how Capcom's laid out their content delivery plan, but would Capcom, and perhaps more importantly Sony want to keep sinking money in to a game that's not selling?

Who knows, maybe a lot more casuals will buy in six months or so when the game has more modes and characters, but launch usually tends to be where that window opens and closes, unless this sales model leads to some great content and word of mouth spreads enough...Maybe?

I just can't help but think that those expecting 30+ characters a few years from now are possibly waiting for s ship that's not coming in.

I think this game will do just fine.SF games always have long lives. I have a feeling they are going to support V just like 4, but really the only difference being we won't have to buy another disc when the "Super" upgrade is announced.

SF has such a loyal base that there is just no way the game will die. It just won't happen. It also already broke records for EVO entrees

There is not going to be a "Super" or "Ultra" version.

I know that's what they said, and I believe that their won't be another disc but I wouldn't be surprised if in 2017 they have an "update" that comes with some new characters, stages etc.

Not gonna happen, the first version of SF3 flopped hard and it still got 2 more versions, including 3rd strike which is one of the most acclaimed fighters of all time

Well, for one thing, SF3 came out at the tail end of the fighting game boom. So you're kind of comparing apples and oranges on that count alone.

But also, 2nd Impact and 3rd Strike were full retail releases (solely by Capcom) with a complete amount of content.

They just gave SFV a full retail release with very few modes and characters with the promise that they'll keep supporting it (with content that can be paid for or unlocked for free) as a platform.

How far will that initial payment of $60 go? After all the currently announced DLC, there will be 22 characters and 11 arenas. If the game's not selling, will Sony and Capcom keep investing in the platform with free content (more characters, arenas, modes) etc if the initial payoff from fans was much lower than anticipated?

It's not just Capcom that has to decide this anymore either. I'm sure Sony has other investments to consider. Maybe there's nothing to worry about, but I don't think SF3's situation compares to the uphill battle SFV is facing, but I guess we'll see.

I wish NRS did the same for MK9. The only way to really improve the game is by time. Balance the characters and improve the gameplay by updates is a smart option. Idk if you remember SF4, but it plays kinda shitty compared SSF4. And so forth. With fighting games itis the way to go if you ask me.

If MK9 gave us 4 to 5 big updates with added characters, stages, smart buffs & nerfs, bug fixes etc. we would all be happy and pleased. Im sure it would make MK9 last longer than it already did. The only reason i see why SF4 lasted longer was bc it improved the overall game by time and fixed what needed to be fixed. MK9 didnt do that. Input bugs, OP / low tier characters and more issues were still active.

It takes time to improve a fighting game, it doesnt get perfect within one or two minor rushed in patches. Im not saying it is the only way, but so far i think it's the best way to keep a fighting game and it's community active. I dont remember how many patches NRS released but it kept "almost" all the problems it had half year from release.

And how come i always read hate towards SF in the MK community? It's a shame as Eduard Boon really likes SF himself. SF4 inspired MK9 and x to be what it is now days. We should support fighting games instead of hating it. While we do, we can learn from it aswell. And maybe someday we get the dream fighter most of us dreamt of, MK vs SF.

First 30 minutes of story mode have been posted. Plus a sneak peak at Balrog.

https://youtu.be/Z3qJpLR5Mbw

I like how you alternate characters [like in India you played as Necalli against Ryu and then played as Dhalsim against Necalli] and you're not going to always be on the left side [the healthbar of the character you're playing as will display "You" on it]

They have also confirmed you play as all 22 characters in story mode. Even if it's just for one round or two, that's still miles better than how NRS treats half the cast in their story modes.

Its definitely shaping up to be a better story mode than MK X. I like that we'll be able to play as all of the characters including the DLC characters.

I wouldn't count on Akuma coming anytime soon. He's going to be in Tekken 7 so I imagine Namco will want him exclusively for a while when the game hits console early next year. So if he does make it into a DLC pack it will probably be late into Wave 2 or part of Wave 3. There is concept art of him for SF 5 so Its a question of when not if he makes in.
