That argument is so flawed. Street Fighter has it's Sub-Zeros and Jax's and Kitana's, and they will be in every game until the end of time. Because they add one obscure character, they are suddenly taking risks? I don't think so. And there will surely be more characters from the later era, it's been confirmed multiple times. Just because you haven't seen them yet doesn't mean they don't exist. The whining is out of control. I find your lack of faith disturbing.


Is my lack of faith REALLY that disturbing? We're nearly almost at the ONE MONTH mark and yet people are still acting as if we have so many characters left to go and that 3D era characters will still make it in but come on- it's not looking bright. People keep claiming there will be 28-30 characters in the final roster DESPITE the select screen not changing ONE bit since June.

I want to be proven wrong. I want to be made to look like a fool on April 14th when it's revealed that Fujin, Tanya, Havik, Bo' and maybe a few others are in but let's face facts- it's NOT likely.

Street Fighter re-introducing a character haven't seen since 1998 and revealing him this early is more risky than ANYTHING MKX has done with it's stale character reveals. OMG RAIDEN IZ REVEALED! OMG KANO IZ IN! OMG KITANA IZ IN(Love her, but come on it's not like a surprise).

These reveals have been nothing more than the usual characters. The only somewhat surprising reveal is maybe Ermac, but he's pretty much has become a popular character since Deception so meh, not that surprising.

I'm looking forward to more Street Fighter V reveals at this point and that's fucking tragic considering how much I hate that damn series. But at least their fans are getting some surprises.

I don't mean to get on your case but that is totally what capcom will do. Hell that's what Tekken 7 is going to do since they didn't reveal Nina or Yoshimitsu.

As for MK I'm going between hope and "aw fuck it's not looking good"

Yes, it is disturbing, because no matter how many times you're told "Yes there will be characters from that era", you still can't manage to believe it because you haven't seen it yet. Patience is a virtue. There will be more characters than you think too. Watch. Why don't we wait to persecute them for false advertising until we know the full roster. And if I'm wrong, I will personally apologize.

OP is saying it like this franchise has never taken a character from a "not main series" game and make her playable (Sareena) or even "rumor" characters like Ermac and Skarlet (edit: and technically Blaze) and give them form.

I'm REALLY trying not to be an ass guys and I'm sorry if I come off intimidating, I'm just REALLY worried about this issue. I just want to see a few non-popular characters make the roster- that's all ;P

I think NRS keeping everything so damn quiet this time is driving me bonkers and making me pull at my hair. It's killing me. We have never gone so long with knowing so little about a MK game before and I just don't know how to take it. It wasn't this quiet during the Deception hype even, haha.

I gotta give it to Capcom for bringing Charlie back. He's always been one of my favorites. He looks awesome too with new moves and Frankenstein like stiching.

But MKX IS taking risks. New characters are riskier than bringing back old characters that never took off. The very first gameplay trailer for MKX showed 2 new characters. And the reception wasn't great at first. But eventually they grew on people.

Descendant characters like Cassie are also risky. People might not like the offspring compared to their parents.

"There will be characters from later games" - Kenshi does not count. I'd love to see him back, but if he's the 'fan service" for post-trilogy characters again, he can frankly kiss my ass!! Not at the expense of Havik, Tanya, Bo Rai etc.

The Tacos guy on twitter made the misleading statement "more than 2 MK4 characters already confirmed". When - God forbid - the long standing hard fans got excited at this prospect, he shit bricks and made sure to reclarify he meant 'characters who were in MK4', not 'characters originated in MK4'. It's a total joke how they've treated post-trilogy fans this time around, and I'm definitely with Ankha on this!!

I would love -, - love! - just one character from MK4 who isn't Quan Chi, and one from post-MK4 who isn't Kenshi, but it's not looking a hot prospect. I'm sorry, but the returning roster this time around has very little variety from across the series. Frankly, it's a shitty and uninspired mix so far and seeing Capcom - OF ALL DEVELOPERS, WOW! - dig a little deeper into their roster vaults is pretty depressing.

If you don't think NRS is aware of who fans are crying about, you're mistaken. It's been confirmed there will be an MK4 character aside from Quan Chi (separate from what Shaun Himmerick said), and they've also said there will be characterS (plural for those playing at home) from the later era games. It may not be as many as some people want, but it will be more than Kenshi and Quan Chi. The only thing depressing is how daft and impatient this fanbase is.

Roster Risk?

New characters > Returning characters.

Every time.

Street Fighter III says hi.

What NetherRealm Studios is doing with Mortal Kombat X by throwing in new fighters IS a roster risk. IFNetherRealm Studios had it their way, they would had kept their FULL word on the "new generation" speech they gave back early in the game's announcement. But they slightly backed away from that when when they made dead characters playable again.

Btw Ankha, one thing I've learnt after years watching these boards. If you make enough noise, eventually the developers listen. I've seen it with Rain, Brutalities, obscure characters, time and again. Even the shittier ideas make it in there if the fans voice it loud and frequently enough (FU brutalities!!).

During MK9, I saw fans complaining about lack of detail in the fatalities - when Liu Kang was punching through the opponents chest it wasn't leaving a hole. NRS got a bit tetchy about it on twitter, then lo and behold, by release date that was changed - a hole in the chest. I think the first *big* fatality promoted this year was Scorpion's hole in the chest and dangling heart - did make me chuckle!!

Point being, persistence takes just as much patience as sitting back and waiting for things to be revealed - if not more!! Sod the haters.

How many new characters does MKX have?

According to the thread's title, we're discussing "Roster Risks." There is no bigger risk than a brand new character. MKX wins this category. No contest.

Now that I've said that, this thread is beyond idiotic. Comparing two game's rosters for "Risks" when BOTH are far from complete is a joke. It's impossible to say which game is going to have more "Risky" characters. Impossible. But it is certainly possible to jump the gun and make baseless, unwarranted claims that create nothing besides drama.

Enjoy your drama, because that's all this thread has.

The character select screen has changed in both the last 2 streams.

Went from 24 spots to 25 spots to 26 spots(with a flashing ? in the middle, my guess random select)

Given that Cage and Sonya are extremely likely to make the roster, I don't see Cassie as a risk in the slightest. She plays in her own mostly unique way and you're not aggravating fanbase of either Cage/Sonya with the perception that NRS are streamlining both Cage/Sonya's powers into one new character. As new characters go, Cassie is probably the safest and blandest route to take. You are almost guaranteeing her popularity by association with two of your most popular characters (who are also included ffs - all but confirmed). So a risk? Absolutely not. Barely registers as risk at all. Plus, there's the OMGZ I CAN DO FATALITY ON MY MOM, WHOAH, VERY SHOCK etc

Somewhat creatively bankrupt and a waste of roster spot? - I like Cassie, but frankly, yes.
