For me, my first MK game was MK Trilogy for the Nintendo 64. It was a rental, but my brother, one of my sisters, and I loved it anyway. Shame it had to be returned.

MKII in the arcades.
Mortal Kombat for Genesis, then on to Mortal Kombat II also for Sega Genesis.
i believe we skipped MK3 & UMK3 until my family got Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PSone. I missed MK4's initial release, eventually got it to play on my PlayStation 2/3.
Returned fully into the series in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance a few months before MK Deception was released. Used to lurk here and the official MK boards during the hype up to Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Had the metallic case (Kano/Sonya one I believe?).
Left and haven't bothered trying MKvsDC, returned to the MK community with the Rebirth trailer and the soon Mortal Kombat (2011) announcement trailer.
Went from playing with my dad and older brothers, now visiting MK boards and awaiting the franchises 10 fighting title.

I was 5 when MK3 released...But I eventually went back and played MK1 and MK2. I unfortunately don't have a MK1 story like everyone else, due to being two years old. LOL

I was 5 when I was at my cousin's house and he introduced me to MK 3. I immediately fell in love with everything about the game and the series. I am now 22. I can still remember sitting in his basement, running back and forth, throwing my opponent with Sindel's hair, haha.
I was 10 when MK1 came out as well, spooky ;)
But the first game I played was MK3 as a rental.
MK didn't have that big of an impact in sweden and sadly to this day, it still doesn't :\ (especially not in gaming media, which also sadly is VERY stuck on the equality debate)

I was 15 when the first MK came out. I was hearing about it at school from a few different people and I was really interested to see what all the talk was about. The first time I saw and played it I was in love. My younger brother and I would ride our bikes on the weekends to the nearest 7-11 (1.5 miles from our home) and play the hell out of it. Even when we ran out of quarters we would stay and watch other people play for sometimes hours.
I got my drivers license the next year and within weeks of MK2 coming out. Every Tuesday for months, my brother and I would drive to the next town where there was a huge arcade and we would play and watch people play for hours. That was over 20 years ago and that time period holds a special place in my heart, especially because my brother passed away two years ago.

After al these years I am too very exited for a new MK game.
I don't know what it is but every time when a new MK comes out, I feel like
12 again.(exept for MK vs DC, what a @#$%^& up game)
This was my age when I first played MK1.
.....good old times......

RyanSeabass...
It's a said thing that your brother is no longer, but I hope that good memories will fill your mind when you are playing MK.
Respect...
I was probably around 4-5 when I first played it... maybe younger. I remember my dad played it, and would always have me come in the room during a fatality because at that point they scared the crap out of me, he would laugh and try to tell me it was just a game but I was like nope, haha.
Occasionally I would pick up the controller and play it by myself a few times... but it usually ended with me running out of the room after every lost match. Then somewhere shortly down the line I'd say around 5-6 I was a total button mashing monster and a self proclaimed MK master. Good times.
Nowadays I'm the one showing my dad the new MK's that have came out whenever I get around to seeing him, he doesn't play video games anymore but he is always interested in MK. We watched the whole 3+ hour MK9 story mode on youtube a couple years back.
Really nice story Ryan, and may your brother rest in piece.

I was only born the year the first MK came out but I played MK1-3 with my brother on his SNES when I was around 4. MK2 was the first game I ever played. I wasn't old enough to have enjoyed the whole being an arcade aspect of it, although I do have fond memories of my brother excitedly telling me that they had an MK4 cabinet down in the local arcade, and going down to play it. And failing miserably because I was terrible at them.
I remember us having dial-up when news for DA was coming out haha. And I had that promo DVD they had with the teaser trailers and Scorpion and Kung Lao's fatalities on it. Good times.

I was 13 when MK1 came out. One day, my friend Mark told me about this new game that Pinky's just got in. (Pinky's was a small pool hall in town that the mob ran numbers out of. Alot of undesirable characters there to say the least.) I'll never forget the first time I played. I beat the snot out of some jackass kid with Kano of all characters.
I would save 3 days worth of lunch money so I could play on Fridays after school. God, I miss those days.

I was 7 when MK1 came out. I had the chance to play it on arcade at a restaurant with a cousin. We were given money by our parents 2 or 3 times a week to go eat there, play pool and arcade. But that was really during MK2 and MK3 that the buzz started. One in or corner of friends would have bought MK1 and 2. And another guy would have bought MK3. Great times.
I am also excited about MKX. This is actually the tenth game! More than 20 years later! And with all the new things revealed at this time, they've finally decided to go down the all or nothing road again and spoil us like the old days!

I still remember being around 6 or 8 and going to this huge arcade called 'Q-Zar' and watching people competitively play MK3. There was even this goth guy, who looked like a fucking vampire that we were cool with that would wreck everyone. I've been a fan ever since MK1 on SNES. Deadly Alliance was the one that really brought me back, I found the Game Informer that debuted the game and i've even been a member on this site ever since. I'm 25 now lol, it's been so long.
