I guess I should be more open to the idea of having an on-screen kiss of two characters, since you put it that way.

I think a Rain/Kitana relationship is something that should have already happened thousands of years ago. I think them being each others ex's would work better considering she loves Liu Kang as he loves her, too. It could even open up for tension, history, and back story that was never established before (unless it was and I'm just straight foolin' right now).

Flirtation is the creation of a subplot and an actual hookup is the ultimate climax of that plot. People don't like stories that stand still and never actually progress or finish.

Liu and Kitana or Sonya and Johnny just flirting forever and never actually doing anything about their feelings would be exactly the same thing as Scorpion talking about revenge in every game but never actually getting it for 20 years.

Your fears that it would be written poorly are certainly valid, NRS's writers aren't the greatest...but I just want them to stop beating around the bush with some of the layers these characters are supposed to have, stop just hinting at or teasing interactions or having things be kept offscreen between games, and actually SHOW all the different ways the characters interact with each other.

Yes that would have been good, if when Rain was introduced in MKT his bio mentioned he had a past with Kitana or something. They can't just throw it in now. Unless we get another retcon (tongue in cheek.)

With Rain once a member of a resistance turned general to Kahn and Kitana once assassin turned resistance fighter, their paths may have crossed at some point. But they both started at opposite ends. So there might be friction between the two.

Maybe Rain self-proclaimed he was a prince of Edenia just to boost his ego. Kitana in the new storyline doesn't seem to know anything about Edenia so maybe, just maybe, Rain tried to hit on her. But not out of love, no Rain did it for the power. Being married to a princess of Outworld which is ruled by a Emperor with a big-ass hammer might give him that. Also, in the unlikely event that Kahn should ever die, Rain would have been the rightful emperor next in line (with Kitana his queen). If only he married Kitana in the first place.

Just a theory. A GAME THEORY! (cue music)

It's a better one than "Sindel would've cheated on Jerrod" or "there could be other royalty in Edenia for Argus to fuck" (Note that people who govern portions of a kingdom FOR the king and queen are called an Earl, Duke/Duchess, Baron/Baroness, or Count/Countess and their kids are not called Prince/Princess)
Granted that "i WANT to marry the princess" is still not a good reason to call yourself a prince and doesn't work anyway since he didn't start calling himself one until he found out Argus is his dad.
So it's still pretty clear that Rain is an idiot who thinks a god is a form of royalty.

Well the first game was the only one that got the negative media exposure, and in that, the only "gay" option is girl-on-girl with an alien woman (the sequels had more options of both sexes)...so maybe it's a bit of both.

But I mainly remember the uproar being over A) having a scene of naked people making love in a video game (although you never see their actual naughty bits, the love scenes in these games are always very tastefully/artistically shot) and B) the ability for that scene to be same-sex.

Also something about sex being half the game. And gratuitously shot scenes those would be. Which is why a lot of people gave the woman her book review "I haven't read the book but..."

Back on topic:

If Rain only called himself a prince after Raiden told him about Argus, maybe he had this insane troll logic moment:
Gods have powers and respect. Kings also have power and should be respected.
Therefore gods are kings.
Therefore my father is a king.
Therefore I am a son of a king.
Therefore I am a prince.
Therefore I should use my powers to CONQUER EARTH!!! realm

Meanwhile:
Argus: Ah Raiden. You're finally here. Oh before I forget, I have a son that I think developed a lust for power. So before you leave again, do not tell my son Rain I am his father.
Raiden:...
Argus:... You told him didn't you?
Raiden:...yes
Argus: And now he's using his title to conquer realms.
Raiden: Yup.
Argus: (sigh) I knew your storm sister was trouble

Aha! I remember that! That was Cooper Lawrence, and I'm pretty sure she got fired for that. I haven't heard her name since - all I remember is there being like a 3-way debate on O'Reilly, or something, and some other guy put her in her place and made her admit she'd never actually played it. It was funny, and I think it cost her her job.

ANYWHO,

I'm in the camp that says the Prince thing is a delusion. I think Rain, as the highest ranking Edenian in Kahn's military after Kitana's defection, believes that because of his roots and his service to Kahn, that makes him something special in Edenia. I think the term prince for Rain is closer to the term Regent or Military Governor. He is of Edenian stock and he commands the occupying force therefore in his mind he is the "rightful" prince of Edenia, second only to Shao Kahn. It's all a delusion.

This is just what I think it means.

Fox news and video games don't seem to go well. They do it again anyway.

I doubt Rain earned or was given the title Prince so I say he just wanted to call himself Prince. Why? Maybe he wanted to hit on the Emperor's daughter or just boost a really large ego. Either way, not a real Prince.

Really? You are still clinging on that old argument even after you started writing something entirely else a couple of pages ago. What a choice of words, "fucking"; you seem to have done it only to make your own theory appear better. (Gosh, you are a real nuisance I see, RE701, bearing almost no principles whatsoever.) Can I tell you a secret? The barons and the dukes do not apply in this matter. Jerrod and Sindel are basically the royals of Edenia's UN. There has been a plenty of variations of monarchies in this world and an autonomous sub-monarchy could certainly apply to Edenia. Read about Spain's government for example and tell me again that the monarchies are or have been all alike by their structure. I'm sure you googled that information afterwards though and thought that you could get some "easy points" retroactively while I'm not here. Come to think of it – that's exactly what you blamed RedSumac of doing and now you were caught doing that yourself. At least however you are consistent with your characteristics now; namely the hypocrisy that I don't almost even bother calling any longer seeing how commonplace it has become. Now if you are interested in the Argus X Sindel possibility, since it's still in the talks, one should bear in mind that during this long time Jerrod might have even been thought dead at some point, for all we know, making Sindel an innocent "widow" for a time. More than that, people do change especially in 10,000 years which is an incredible lifespan mind you.

This is not about "which theory seems the most right" to begin with, I only came to indicate that making truths out of fandom assumptions is blatant idiocy: Even though Rain is arrogant, you do not have to be. There is necessarily nothing wrong with your theory itself, though I would be a lot more intrigued in seeing e.g. this widow story occuring that would actually add depth to the plot, instead. But that, boy, is a matter of preference.

You mean "two characters." I don't ever recall that "chrome" character ever having a chance to be in a game. Thank goodness for that.

Why the hell would Scarlet even be in a romantic story? Do you even KNOW the story behind her, Hank, or are you just throwing out crap like you normally do? I'd rather have you look up what her story is rather than explain it to you.

And I will agree, she is a pointless character right next to Rain. I like Scarlet, unfortunately, like Rain, she doesn't hold that much significance as an important character in this series. I would not miss her of she wasn't on the next game.

That is stupid. I advise you to play Mortal Kombat again and actually learn who she is before you start throwing out fan girl wants and fiction.

Or if you want that so badly, go to Deviantart. I'm sure some random fan person made a picture of Scarlet in some dumb relationship. I mean they have Sub-Zero and Kitana... Makes no fucking sense whatsoever yet it's there.

She does love someone. And it's the guy with the bigass hammer. Willing to even wait for his rebirth when he died.

Rain on the other hand is a guy who would prefer a harem and beautiful women (because he likes to see himself a prince). Skarlet, who likes to bathe in blood, sounds disgusting for an arrogant prince.

But a Rain-Khrome love bond sounds like potential.
