Heard the Curbolicious episode today. I hope you guys never stop doing the Weekly Sektor Community Blowup. It's fucking hilarious :D
As for the grassroots vs. MLG discussion, I think the issue will have more gravity when it comes to MK10. As far as MK9 goes, I think MLG is the best thing that could have happened. However, I still hope to see the MK community merge with the Capcom community in terms of players, and I feel the grassroot tournaments are the starting point for that. For MK9, it's probably too late. They're reasons for leaving are mostly still valid (except for the constant patches; that's done with). For MK10, if that game fixes the most significant current problems, maintaining a strong presence in the grassroot tournaments is vital for bringing in strong competition from the Capcom side.
No matter what people think of SF4/MvC3, those communities are loaded with talent, and if they mix their efforts with the efforts of the current MK9 local scenes, the competition is going to get unbelievably fierce.

Good stuff as always. I actually didn't see Slips play Tom Brady. I had thought Tom Brady put down Sub for good, so if that match got streamed, I need to check that out. And the best Mass Effect character is totally Tali.
I don't know if Slips is going to read this, but I don't recommend the military option unless you have very specific career goals, you're in physically great shape, and you have a god-like attention span. If you're listening skills suck, you're going to take a psychological beating in boot camp. I was 25 when I went into the Navy, and I'll admit that it kinda sucks whenever a bunch of dumb kids outperform you physically.
I got medically discharged from the Navy during boot camp, so I can't report on the full experience. However, just getting INTO the military is giant pain in the ass. Pretty much all branches are over-saturated right now, so it could take over a year to get a contract (assuming you got the score you need on the ASVAB). Still, Slips is right for the most part. The military is a good option, but you have to be on point.

Okay, so Reo thinks that you have to have multiple mains to be successful in MK9, but he doesn't believe the game needs another patch. Those two statements aren't cohesive, IMO. I'm only two hours into the episode, but I don't agree with that design philosophy. Counterpick games aren't alternative approaches to the fighting genre genre. They're the result of the developers not properly implementing different styles into the engine. They shouldn't exist. Even MvC2, as unbalanced as it was, was NOT a counterpick game. Within the span of 6-10 teams, it was deeply competitive.
Plus, I'm not even convinced there are that many 7-3 match ups. Reo did bring up the point that even if characters were capable of overcoming their bad matches, why work twice as hard? 16-Bit and Slips discussed that point a few episodes ago: because you might know the match up better even if it's not in your favor. And can we really call this a counterpick game when the bank of counter-characters consists of only 5 or 6 characters. Who the hell is picking Sindel for their bad match ups? (Mr. Mileena may use her, but as a secondary I thought. She ain't there to fill in Kitana's holes)
Reo is a smart guy, and he gave a lot of intelligent straight talk, but I don't agree with his standpoint at all. Before I stopped the mp3, he did say he was worried that a patch would fuck things up worse, and in that sense, I do agree with him. That said, if Paulo is in a position where he knows that isn't a concern, then let's fly with it and fix some of this game's bullshit!
Thanks for the links, bro. I'll never get tired of watching Tom's Sub.
BTW, I remember you asked about the SF4 community back in my Texas Showdown thread. The reason I haven't responded yet is because it's a very long response and I want to make sure I cover all corners. I have a TON of stuff to say on that subject.

This episode feat. REO was ridiculously good! There literally wasn't a minute of the show that I struggled to keep up with.
LMAO @ Brady going ape$hit during the NFGR discussion telling everyone to shut up for something like 5 minutes.
Tournies like MLG and FR should definitely have Top16 players getting pts. for the NFGR list. I'm also more in favor of the 12 month period, but maybe there should be something like coefficients of some sort to give more importance to recent tournaments yet not totally neglect tournaments from the first 6 months. Maybe tournaments from the first 6 months should have a 0.5 pts. coefficient and the ones from the last 6 months a 1.0 pts. coefficient or something like that.
Wow! I appreciate your dedication and efforts, but man go easy on yourself lol.

Good to hear you agree about the REO episode being awesome. We'll have him back sometime.
Next up will be Justin Wong. We recorded it last night. It's a very different show, mostly general FG discussion between Justin and Slips. Hopefully it's interesting. After him will be 9.95 Phil and at some point Death and the return of Perfect Legend.

We just forgot. He addressed that shortly before MLG though. He basically admitted he was salty and took it back.
Justin is awesome. He was always chill when I briefly met him in person and him doing this podcast was very cool. We recorded that at like 1 AM when he had just returned from a flight home and was tired, yet still gave us two hours of his time for a community podcast about a game he doesn't play much.

Finally heard the last two episodes. Justin Wong is one of my heroes, so hearing him talk about my favorite fighting franchise was pretty awesome. Shame Floe hates the game. Even bigger shame Floe dropped Ermac forever.
BTW, does Slips know his tournament S.L.U.T.S was discussed on Wake Up Shoryuken a few episodes ago (I believe episode 95 w/ Fishstix)?
Needless to say, the last episode was fucking awesome. And you know, once 16-Bit mentioned how Tom and REO are totally best friends, the overall mood of the conversation underwent a complete 180. Tom livened up, REO stopped sounding so vindictive, and Pig... well, Pig was still Pig I guess. Maybe it's just me, but after that moment, the difference in Tom was day and night. It's as if you picked Bill Menoutis at the select screen, held down + 4 before the start of the match, and unlocked Tom Brady.

I absolutely love KTP.
As there are soooo many people on TYM and 16bit comes here every once In awhile I would love to say this podcast is the best thing ever. It's like cocaine. I'm fucking addicted. I'm listening to the old Perfect Legend one as I type this lol. Very good shit man. Thanks for doing this by the way.
Also, next one is supposed to have Death? Oh, and grats on getting 3rd at PU! Good play and great commentary!

I second that.
Truthfully 16-Bit, we're really grateful to have you posting here. MKO is not the community force it use to be, but this place really is home to a lot of us. Your contributions to the board mean a lot.

My theme song for Tom Brady is Katy Perry's Hot 'n' Cold:
"You change your mind like a girl changes clothes..."
You know - Sub-Zero is the best - No man, Kung Lao for Evo - Slide has armor, Sub-Zero is S-tier - Maaaan, Sub-Zero is trash, bottom 3 - I'm all Raiden now, never ever SZ - No more Raiden, Sub-Zero only - ...

The Sub Zero Wars! episode is up.
Tom Brady, Marvaz, Lionheart, Denzell Terry, and Shoryuken join the podcast for THE SUB ZERO WARS!
