Injustice 2 Promotional Poster Leaks

Injustice sequel or Mortal Kombat 11? Polygon may have answered the question thanks a reader tip with the first look at a new promotional poster for Injustice 2.

Mystery Boot Teases Upcoming NetherRealm Character

We still don't know for sure what NetherRealm Studios' soon to be announced project is, but we're already getting the first character tease from master of puppets: Ed Boon!

Injustice II or Mortal Kombat 11 - What's Next?

Its becoming a routine of every couple of years: Ed Boon has updated his Twitter avatar and background -- signalling the ritual cycle of speculation for NetherRealm Studios' newest upcoming game project.

All rumors and reason point toward a follow-up to the franchise starter: Injustice: Gods Among Us. A presumed development back and forth begun with Warner Brothers' post-acqusition Mortal Kombat (2011), and the soon-to-be DC Comics fighting game series of 2013.

Not content to play it entirely safe, Boon's pushing ambiguity in the face of expectation. The "DAMN good question" being asked: Does his teasing image indicate the Roman numeral II (two) for Injustice, or the number 11 for a Mortal Kombat X sequel?

Speculation: Injustice Sequel Announcement Imminent?

With the 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) right around the corner, speculation is mounting that NetherRealm Studios will announce their next game project very soon.

All expectations are Injustice: Gods Among Us will return for the first sequel to the DC Comics superhero fighting game. French site GameBlog.fr cites unnamed sources close to the imminent announcement, projecting an unverified 2017 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The first Injustice: Gods Among Us was released this time, 2012, preceding its debut at the E3 of the same year [original story]. Emerging speculation places an announcement at the ESL Mortal Kombat X Season 3 finals, June 11th.

In their many incarnations, NetherRealm Studios has produced regular fighting game releases every two years. Since being purchased by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, we've seen Mortal Kombat (2011), Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013) and Mortal Kombat X (2015) released in April. A Gods Among Us sequel follows the increasing familiar pattern, even as Creative Director Ed Boon polls interest in more Mortal Kombat projects [full story].

Speculation: Is NetherRealm Studios Preparing For Injustice 2?

Mortal Kombat X is still awaiting the imminent release of 2016 Kombat Pack 2 DLC, but it seems NetherRealm Studios may already be making preparations for their next big project!

Job listings for Senior Producer, Associate Designer, Sound Designer and Senior Artist have NetherRealm restocking the team for AAA and mobile development.

The former three openings were posted earlier this month (January 6th), and are all significant roles in the development process. This seems to suggest something major in the pipeline from the Warner Brothers owned studio. This may fuel fans already clamouring for more Mortal Kombat -- especially in the realm of genre spin-offs like Shaolin Monks -- but the signs seem to be pointing in another familiar direction.

Editorial: What's Next for Injustice: Gods Among Us?

With only the second Mortal Kombat X downloadable character upon us [this week]; it's fair to say Mortal Kombat Online's focus should still be on NetherRealm Studios' current fighting game. Despite a rash of persistent software issues; the tenth instalment has been a blockbuster success for "next" generation consoles (and PC) - fuelled by a massive launch! MKX has burnt bright - but also brought into focus the encroaching influence of big business. Now more than ever, that means a certain monotony of patterns.

To date; Warner Brothers' MK output may have been sporadic, but the more things change, the more they stay the same. The two year release cycle instituted by Midway Games has roughly been upheld over three NetherRealm titles, supported by the introduction of an intended parallel franchise: Injustice: Gods Among Us.

For the forward thinking: a post-launch burst of occasional DC Comics tweets in NetherRealm Creative Director [Ed Boon]'s feed lends to a sense of inevitability. If an Injustice sequel is indeed coming, it's likely that pre-production is already well under way, or entering development stages. Jokes about flash drives aren't the only reason we're thinking about a superhero fighting sequel, but they mount a case for what might lie ahead, and that warrants talking about.

MKX DLC: Blanche Brutality Koming Soon & Boon Wishlist

Kingpin of Kombat Ed Boon has revealed one of the extra features coming to Mortal Kombat X via the next update patch! The news comes via Twitter, where the Creative Director also dropped some thoughts about what he'd like to see, and what we still might see:

Rumor Mill: Injustice Sequel in Development?

If you're wondering what that crunching sound is, it's just the copious helpings of salt we're taking this story with. Coming out of last weeks Wondercon; it seems Furious Fanboys has inferred a possible announcement of an Injustice sequel.

The supposed reveal came during a DC All Access panel showing of Batman: Arkham Knight and allegedly led to confusion about its release:

While people were applauding and cheering, they specifically say that Batman: Arkham Knight would be released later this year. After that statement is what most people didn’t hear, and they said to prepare for the return of Injustice. The “not a 2014 title” statement applied to the new Injustice, not the Batman sequel. No other details about the new Injustice, such as who is developing it, was revealed but it is apparently on the way…just not this year.
