Hey...I think you might be onto something here. The thing I don't get is if there's a list of kombat zones to choose from, then why is this stage the only non-selectable one in the game? Could there be bugs or errors that went along with not playing as Smoke, or something?
I believe you hath stumbled across a new mystery, my friend!

isn't there a lot of stages missing in UMK3 and MKT? (especially MKT). Hell.. some versions of MK3 don't even have the graveyard stage.

Well, that's true about the Graveyard not being on some MK3 ports, but the reason for that was due to lack of space in the game to put it in.
However, the one he's talking about does show up in the game, yet can't be selected by normal means in MK3. Very odd indeed...

Maybe someone with code-making skills can help you out with this one.

Wow I totally forgot about that. Its a shame they seemed to have dumped it from everything after MK3. I kinda like it over the portal they put into UMK3 and I like it better then Noob's Dorfen too.
I mean if they kept Noob's which was just a hackem up of a background why not keep the MK3 Portal too?
Didn't they have some hacked up backgrounds for the N64 version of Trilogy as well?

What do you mean by "Hacked up", dreemernj?

By hacked up I mean levels like Noobs Dorfen and the red MK3 portal are made up of pieces of other levels.
The MK3 portal is the background from Choose Your Destiny with the pit 3 walkway in front of it I believe. And Noob's Dorfen is Motauro's layer with the wall removed blocking the view of the green pit in the background.

Ah, right.
Even if they are hacked up backgrounds, they still have to be put in some sort of address data specifically for levels. If someone can find a code to always play in a certain level, then only a simple bit of changing where the level goes will do the trick.
What I mean by that last statement is this.
(Pretend that the code for play in X level is a Gameshark code)
12345678 0000
Now, if we were to change the 0000 to 0001, we'd get a different level. Same with 0002, 0003, etc.

Thats true, it probably is something like that. Most level select cheats or codes I've seen are like that. It would be interesting to experiment on but I don't have a Game Shark to try out the PSX version of MKT.
It'd be interesting to try to get it by making Mame cheats. Maybe get the MK3 Noob Saibot as well and have access to both of them for no good reason whatsoever.

I think the SNES version should be checked first. If someone can hack up a cheat to play on the level, I can convert the code into a Game Genie code using a spiffy program.

I might take a look at it. I have an SNES rom editor in the works and its far from done but it should be able to sniff out some of this stuff.

I did a real crude run through of the graphics of the SNES version of UMK3 and couldn't find the electricity that is supposed to be in the red portal. Does anyone know if the portal in MK3 for SNES had the electricity in it?

I'll give it a check out. Does anyone have the "Winner of this round battle Smoke" Kode, so I can check it out?
