I can't understand why MK4 was considered by so many people as a sucker! I know it's not a game you would play over 3 hours all day coz once you've seen all the fatalities and FMVs you seen it. But to me it's still a very addicting kool and fun game to play. It's fast and furious, kool weapons and stuff you can throw at your oppenent, funny kombos and gory fatalities...it somehow was a very kool 3d-rebirth of the klassik DARK MK groove...
I was in a real HYPE when I heard of an 3d-MK4 for the first time, always checked the websites, almost wanted to make a trip to the USA when I heard of the MK4-road-tour!!
I still MK GOLD about 1/2 an hour a day, performing killer kombos with Scorpion&Liu Kang and I lOVE it!
yeah!!

theres nothing wrong with mk4 people just need shit to fuss about.
MK4 is probably the best MK game ever...
there is no way it sucked!
besides, MK4 was the first 3d MK game.
I got bored too fast with MK4 after I
beat the game with all the characters though.
I can play as noob and goro,
but I can't figure out playing as meat though.
mind telling me how?

Not only was MK4 thee worst MK ever made, it was possibly pound for pound thee worst fighting game of it's kind and time. The Ye Ar Kung Fu of 3D fighters. The lack of variety, the concept of Maximum Damage, the puppety fighters all with pretty much the same form and priorities for standard moves. A truly weak shot at 3D. It was essentially Polygon characters fighting in a 2D environment with a 3D look to it. You could have easily stuck in the 2D sprites and had the same game. As far as I'm concerned MK4 does not exist. It came close to destroying the series for good.

I tried and tried and tried but could never get into this game. I was totally a sucker for the hype before it came out but I got tired so fast. The only reason I still played it really was that it managed to look good on the P166 I had at the time.
All the reused motions, the glaringly similar characteristics for the characters, it just didn't seem right. And I hated, absolutely hated, the idea of Maximum Damage. Not because it was a way of taking out huge damage combos, I really don't mind if they do that, but I think it should have been done by closing up the possible places for huge damage combos.
When I played, between the generic combo system and the Maximum Damage cap, it seemed like they didn't put the time into developing the game play that I would have liked. It seemed almost thrown together, as if they put too many resources into graphics and hardware and had to just throw in junk for the rest.
Even the characters seemed quite blah to me. I did not like how most of the characters looked, but thats probably because of the overall shape they were going for. It seemed kinda strange and a bit unfitting of the characters.
Overall the look was unappealing, the character shape and physics were a let down, the Max Damage and generic combo systems seemed like a cop out. That is why I think MK4 sucks, and I would have to say it is the worst game in the series, imo.
No flaming, its just stupid. I tried to say these things how I feel and thought maybe it would help others understand a perspective on the suckiness of MK4. Its my opinion, if you don't agree thats fine, I can live with that, no problemo. If you are so moved to words that you have to be a bitch about it, do it quietly.

I agree with you conerning the PC-version...
But hey - did you ever get a load of MK Gold played on a Sony Trinitron in zoom-Mode over a HifI-system?! It grrooooves!!!!!!
I only loved the PC-version because you were able to hack textures and krap and creatin special fatalities for Goro and shit. (hehe) But it really could've been done better for PC!! That's true.
MK4=AGGRESSIVE KOMBAT !! yeeehaaaa

by the way... just a question:
Is it possible that you can't do 3d-sidesteps in MK Gold on DC?? It's 2xRun if I remember correctly but I simply can't do it in this version!!!! I'm playing it with the Saturn-Controller, b4 I played with the DC-controller but it simply doesn't work. Why?????????
(I never had problems with the N64- & PC-versions of MK4 performing this move!)
Or did they forget this move in MK Gold ?
(huh?)

I'm gonna get the PC version, editing textures sounds fun, and I would really to make
my own fatality!
I'll change the johnny cage texture into me,
then just change his name to my name.
wow, I never thought about that.
hey, I could even change his special moves,
and his sounds! I hate johnny cage,
but his is the only texture that would
work to edit, cause he doesn't have anything
sticking out, like hats and stuff.
the only problem, is his pants are too tight!
oh well, I think I'll but the game right now.

A lot of people thought MK4 sucked because they compared it to Tekken and Virtua Fighter which they should'nt have. MK Gold was actually a pretty good game. It was flawed, have the same template for every character, a worthless weapon system, and horrible new characters but it was still a good game.

it was basically mk....in 3d.....no changes (save the pitiful weapon combat system).....in my humble opinion, the graphics were decent for the time, the fatals were awesome, the story was awesome (endings included), but the execution was terrible........it wasnt deep enough....at all. the game was just....too fast, the moves and motion capturing was over-exagerated. it didnt really return to its dark routes like it should have due to the overexagerated almost comical moves (breaking arms, the sounds, the uppercuts, etc.)

RE: MK4 doesn't SUCK !!!!! => Yes, it Does.
MK3 isn't that bad too, it's basically MK with a bit more cartoonesque "futuristic" look and cheap fatalities but the game itself wasn't that bad. I
actually loved Trilogy, it was really addicting and had much MORE lastability than any other MK game concerning the kombos/moves and secrets.
The only MK game I hated was Special Forces, the others were all nice and sweet with MK2/MK Gold being my favourit ones.... and Deadly Alliance of course!! I hope MK6 will be a bit faster like MK4 than the world will be ok for me once again (unless there won't be any war!!)
yup

its kinda funny coming to a MK board watching MK fans bash a good MK game.
seriously, MK4 is one of the best and funnest fighting game ever made. the gameplay was still there and it reminded me alot of MK2. the fatalites were cool, the weapons are tight, and its just an overall fun game and IMO, alot funner than MKDA. once you know alot of the moves, you get really hooked, well, to me anyways. it had a dark feel to it. sure some of the new charaters were lame but so what? the game was still fun and great. MK3 wasn't bad either at the time. but MKTrilogy is my favorite MK game. 2nd is MK2 than MK4.

I thought that MK4 was a pretty good MK game. I thought that the combos weren't as great as they were in MK3-MKT, but at least they kept that 5 hit Scorpion combo I use a lot when playing MKT. MK4 brought back some of that dark feel to it. As for the fatalities, they were trying to bring back the whole MK1/MK2 essence by bringing back some of the old fatalities while adding some new ones. There were a couple of lame characters in there and I felt that there wasn't enough content in the game, but it was still well done. I think that MK4 should have been MK3, because even though I sort of like the MK3/UMK3/MKT games, they lost the essence that MK1 and MK2 had.

Can I get one vote for MK4 Sucking?

i found mk4 very fun. more fun that mk3 or 2 when playing versus. and mk gold is awesome! for me, in order for how fun they were it goes something like
mk:da
mk:gold
mk3
mk2
mk1
challenging a good opponent was always more fun in mk4/gold than any of the other 2d mks. without a doubt for me. it was simple, fast, combos were satisfying. nice graphics (for its time). i loved mk4.

Mk4 wasnt a bad game... they basically took it one step at a time. They made teh game 3d for the first time and tried to keep the feel you got from the older mk games. The graphics were decent for the time and the combos were very basic and yes maximum damage was gay the weapon system was also very pathetic but all in all i still enjoy playing it. I'm looking forward to "finding/buying" mk gold for my dreamcast.

Actually MK4 was the first expierence of the MK Team in 3D, and thanks to that the MK Team is better in 3D games (Go and play MKDA and tell me if I am wrong)
