Yes I remember that EGM magazine with the pic of ermac in it. The guy that sent the pic to EGM even said how he did it. I tried what he did(very difficult what I had to do but I did it) and guess what as usually it didn't work now it could of been an mkI arcade that didn't have ermac in it I don't know for sure, but i believe ermac is in the game. And the idea of ermacs being the # of glitches in the game NO. I have glitched the game many times by getting a draw on goro and the game has froze and I can't do anything. And when I go to the game audits the emacs still reads 0 so that theory is wrong, but I have the arcade that has ermac and I'am determined to get ermac sooner or later. And not to change the subject has anybody every heard of the ermac in MKII it's a girl red ninja named scralet shes often been fought in MKII Challenger. And the arcade versions that have the ermacs are MKI verions 3.0 4.0 not prototype,1.0,2.0,t-unit 4.0 and 5.0.

Actually, his "method" wasn't difficult at all. The guy said that he beat his friend double-flawless in the Hall of Champions using ONLY HIGH PUNCH. You wanna do that, get to that stage and simply tell your pal to let you beat him (don't have a pal, simply put quarters in BOTH slots).

U can always try the easter egg code. I heard about the glitch, but i only thought that was for the arcade version.confused

I have seen this in the sega cd MK1. It was some kind of combination of switches we did in the cheat menu. A friend and I got it out of a magazine. I can't remember exactly what we did (this was probably 8 years ago)but after we beat reptile at the bottom of the pit it went to the next round. Reptile was now a glitchy red ninja and his life bar did say scorpion. I think the game froze up shortly after that.

Yo I just tried this, after the match in the Warrior Shrine it counted down to 0 normally, waiting for player 2 to start, after which time, it went black for about 2 seconds, then a screen I never saw came up, at which it just froze....I'm gonna try again to take a screencap, I know it's just a corny lil glitch an means nothing, but I wanna show ya....

Edit: sorry i couldn't get it to work, I'll keep trying, in summary I used Cage against I think Liu, only HP's, the screen it froze on was a border, with two black boxes on the left, one large one on top, and centered below was a much smaller black box, an in the top right corner was the MK Logo 'enshrined' into the background, come to think of it, it was the background for when you won the game

I read this over at GamePro.com (not sure if it's in the print version of the November 2003 issue; btw, the part that's entirely in capital letters is my doing so as to add effect) in a section about video game urban legends:

LEGEND: "There's tons of hidden stuff still waiting to be unlocked in Mortal Kombat II.
FACT: False
More than most games, Midway's coin-op Mortal Kombat II was surrounded by a special air of mystery. AFTER THE ORIGINAL GAME'S UNLIKELY RUMORS OF SECRET CHARACTERS LIKE REPTILE AND ERMAC TURNED OUT TO BE TRUE, hungry fans leapt on every detail of the sequel and let their imaginations get the better of them. Some stuff was true-secret characters like Smoke, Jade, and Noob Saibot existed, plus after 250 matches, you could play a game of Pong-but much of the other stuff was pure fiction. Sonya and Kano are not playable, but they appear chained as part of a background--surely there must be a way to free them! The operator's menu includes such cryptic phrases as "Kano Transformations"--which is "proof" that you can play as Kano! In the background of The Pit II, two small fighters can be seen squaring off-and one of them is on fire (fanatics dubbed him "Torch"). He must be a secret character! Weirder still were persistent rumors that Sub-Zero turns into a polar bear (for an Animality), Kitana takes off her clothes (for a Nudality), the weapons painted into the backgrounds could be used, that you could hang bodies on the hooks of the Acid Pool stage, that you could knock opponents into the mouths of the Living Forest trees, and you could fight a female ninja on that stage named Scarlet...even though nobody had actually seen such stuff with their own eyes. (Of course, that didn't stop enterprising Photoshop artists from creating fake screenshots of those things as 'proof.') The game's main creators, Ed Boon and John Tobias, did little to quell the rumors; the truth is, 'no comment' added to the game's mystique and was good for repeat business besides. But by late 1994, as MK3 was coming out, the team revealed the truth: You can't play as or against the guy on fire (it's actually Liu Kang's player model with extra art; he showed up for real as a secret character in MK: Deadly Alliance), Sub-Zero only turns into a polar bear in MK3, and chasing secrets is fun. 'All the rumors come from the players themselves,' said Tobias in an interview with Flux magazine. 'And they either believe them or they don't.' "

P.S. If anyone disagrees with this, PLEASE come up with a better reason than something like "GamePro sux."

Now I got this idea when I was watching the history of MK on MKDA and they were showing quick clips of MK3 behind the scenes and they showed Sub Zero and Kitana's actors all dressed up in RED. I'm like "Oh, DUH. They're using a blue-screen so they can't have BLUE outfits or they'll be transparent in game!". I'm 90% sure they did this with the MK1 ninjas as well. I'm sure the Scorpion/Sub Zero/Reptile costume was actually red when the motion capture was created, which brings me to my thoery as to what the error Ermac really is.

The error is

Scorpion = Load scorpions moves + *Error* Cannot load scorpion's pallet. No pallet loaded. Generating ERror MACro.

I'm not sure what would lead to this error, but since it cannot load the pallet it is forced to display the sprite as it was captured, and since the MK1 ninjas were captured with a red costume, it loads a red Ninja

http://www.geocities.com/quirkphinder/ermac.gif

...of course, this all goes right out the window if it turns out each charecter had a pre-colored sprite set ahead of time. Anyone think I'm right?

there is a flaw and that is that the male ninja costumes didn't have red. they were all yellow from mk1 on up. Some of the costumes were a little different when they went in the game. raidens vest in mkII was red but when they put him in the game they changed it blue for his main outfit. sektor was the outfit they used in mk3(another red) and it is odd the main colors some of the characters used was red during filming except scorpion. I know scorpions and the rest of the ninjas were yellow because just about every magazine always had production shots and like you saw usually the costumes were red(even sub-zero in mk3) but every male ninja used yellow. although I think the female ninjas in mkII were blue.
I'm also pretty sure they switched the color screen they were using but I forget at what game they switched. I forget if they switched from green to blue or blue to green screen.

One thing I DO know is that the MK team DID have the same set of sprites for all ninjas... I know this because in MKT for PSX, when you choose Shang Tsung, and choose limited morphs so that there is no loading pause... Any ninja, Female ninja or cyborg chosen will highlight all of them, that means that it loads that ONE sprite set... Meaning that all of them run under the same sprite set, and if I am correct, the original color IS red, that's the color the actors wore during the sprite capture...

I came across Ermac in MK1.

I was playing as Scorpion on that level with statues of Buhdda or whoever. At the start of the second match, Reptile came down, But he was red and the message above him was also backwards(did any of his messages appear backwards? reptile only showed up for me two or three times). But when round two started, Scorpion was red. And in the name bar was a scrambling of "Scorpion" and "Error". And the opponent kept fidgetting back and forth like it was stuck. But while i was moving there were black boxes that kept appearing and dissapearing. But when i tried to use my spear, It froze. But the boxes still continued to appear and dissapear. I remembered that i was freak'n worried because i thought it was broken

Can't this just stop already?

Ermac was not written in an energy bar. Nor was the word "Scorpion" scrambled with the word "error."

If a pallet glitch occurred, fine. You know what? Thats old news. Has anyone heard of the glitch that made Goro look "metalic" according to some sources? You know, that glitch where he loads Kano's pallet instead of his own. Its funny looking, it happened, but you know what, its done and overwith.

Lets all take a deep breath, inhale through the nose, out through the mouth, and repeat after me.

Stop making shit up about the nonexistant ermac character from MK1.

Yeah guys, I hate to break it yas, but I really found the last bit of evidence that is the proverbial nail in the coffin proving once and for all that Ermac was never in MK1.

I went through my attic, found my magic 8 Ball I've had since I was 6 years old, I asked it, "Was Ermac in MK1?" I shook it up, waited for the bubbles to clear, and it said, "No."

I have consulted my 8 ball which I've had since a similar age, and, according to its lawyers and official witnesses, it concurs with the ruling of the 8 ball mentioned in the Mk2KungBroken post directly predating this post.

I hate people like you. You make up shit stories like this which have no backing to them, post them on the internet, and think that you'll become a god for finding Ermac. You are a liar.

I never got MK4. I played it once at a friend's house and hated it. And i had no idea about a red/orange costume for him in that game. And i have no idea what revision or whatever. I was 7 or 8. I couldn't read his name, It didn't help that i wasn't good at reading considering i was only a child. I didn't make up that story and i want no praise...I was even kinda afraid to say anything because of the skeptics and the questions. And i didn't even know about that glitch until about 3 years ago when i got a computer. Up until then, I just thought something was wrong.

But if it helps, I had a Sega Genesis and my copy was slow as hell. I remember my friend had a Super-Nintendo and his MK game was super fast and Scorpion and Sub-Zero had different fighting stances. Out of me and 3 of my friends that had a game console, I was the only one with a Sega. I also remember that there wasn't any shadowing on him, It was solid light red. And the "Error" kinda appeared in his name after the "sc". But all the writing was messed up, That i did leave out because i wanted it to seem more special that Scorpion's name was the only one scambled. I'm not even sure if it did say "Error", But that's what it kinda looks like in my memory

Maybe i shouldn't have said anything. But i guess i'm lucky that Quirk is open-minded, And Outworld222 seems to have faith in what i said

If you're thinking of what I think you're thinking of, it's in the SNES port and all you need to do is do Raiden's Fatality on the third Endurance match.

And the idea of Ermac being in Genesis is ridiculous. Also, Sub-Zero and Scorpion have different fighting stances on every version of MK1 SNES. That's how it's meant to be. That's how it is in the arcade, PC and Sega CD versions.

Probably just didn't have the memory. Sub using Scorp's stance cuts down on the frames of animation Sub has. Better to remove his stance than have to remove the slide or something else more important.

God.... fucking.... blech...

If you knew ANYTHING about how MK worked, you'd know that it doesn't glitch out and say "error" when an error occurs.

One of two things really happened.

1 - You're lying to get attention
2 - You were a little kid and you don't even know what the hell you saw.

There are soooooo many ways to make number 1 the more logical answer. I'll take it upon myself to point out everything you fucked up at whilst telling your little story.

First, the fact that it was solid light red is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The chances of every color in a single palette changing to a single color are almost nill. Let me give you a little lesson. RGB color. 16.7 million colors in this scheme. Then, add in the number of colors in a single palette. I'll let you do the math.

Next, you say that the name said "error", but it was mixed into Scorpion. There is no "Error" name data. "Error" would have to be spelled out with the ingame font. This makes even less sense. Why the hell would the game take time to spell out something that would have no use whatsoever. Do you think the game was trying to tell you to fix it? It's not for program debugging, I can tell you that.

Then, there's the fact that your story has already changed. You said it yourself. "That i did leave out because i wanted it to seem more special"

Take the time to read the Ermac thread in which myself, MK2KungBroken, DreemerNJ, Sakura, and several others have provided proof that this can not happen. Maybe when you're done reading you can try to come up with a story that actually goes around our proof and not through it.

GraveDigger....PIPE.

You are just lying, give it up.

Genesis didn't take out Sub's stance animation cause of memory, they did it cause they are lazy and wanted to cut corners lol. Genesis carts could do the same amount of memory as SNES in the early days, but they just didn't like to do the best they could do, granted it wouldn't have made the game any better if they included Sub's specific stance.
