I think the damage, especially on Scorpion, looks awesome.
Plus, no other fighting game has a feature like this. It's a good thing for a franchise to be different from it's competitors. All the people who constantly complain that MK isn't enough like Tekken or SF or Soul Calibur really should just play that game instead of coming here and being a downer to the people who want Mortal Kombat to be Mortal Kombat.

I like the additional of damage on faces and clothes... but they seem to be happening in the same order and in the same places over and over in each game play video I see. It's not "random" enough.

I wonder if I kick only the legs, will ONLY THE LEGS show damage?

I sure hope that I can turn off the damage, because from what I've seen thus far it doesn't add much to the experience.

I admit i would prefer if they were more subtle with the damage on the characters through the match but other than that
I am actualy happy about the damage.
I guess it provides a sense of satisfaction and reassurement that you are in fact causing damage with each blow that you deal out onto your opponent.
Like I said before I would prefer that the damage was more subtle through the match.
Such as when Scorpion is being punched, don't have the mask just break into pieces in the first couple of blows, have it crack and chip away before it shatters off his face.

soul calibur 4 has a damage feature and it's more strategic because if effects gameplay and how much damage your character takes.

but i think it should be optional just like blood. i don't see any harm in it for the people that don't want to see odd torn pieces of clothes.

I didn't realize just how much clothes would be torn coming from punches and kicks. Oh wait a minute, that doesn't happen. confused If they were using bladed weapons on the other hand......

I'm liking the damage, it adds to the realism of the game. Also won't turn it off personally. But hey, when blood can be turned down or switched off, maybe this kind of damage can be turned of as well.

oh, and for the jerking of on Sonya thingy: It felt like you were speaking to me as well lol :P

hm..maybe. Since Scorpion's mask breaks after like 2 hits it'd be nice to have the option to turn it off.

I just don't get it. Why in the world would you want to turn off the damage system? Whats worse... having scorpions mask break or having batman thrown threw a brick wall and stand up without a scratch?

Exactly, now what I guarantee you that next gen of fighters or installments whatever, Tekken 7, SF5, SC5 etc one of them will have "real damage" since MK has it now, it adds more depth and realism easily.wink And it looks bitching. I also honestly think those people (the haters) you refer to don't know much about MK seriously.....

But anywho, yeah real damage FTW!grin

I have no problem with damage and no problem with blood. I just think the MK team does a poor job with both of them.

I disagree, they've done a great job with them if anything. The blood isn't necessary but compared to other fighters, who have lacked in the "blood and damage area" MK's done well.

Not to rain on the parade, but... Doesn't Soul Calibur have damage?...

I imagine for most fans the criticism will invariably be that, while the MK team might win the space race every now and then, someone else will land and plant a flag on the moon, and do something substantial and intergrate it into a better baseline.

I imagine those same people are probably complaining less about MK not being a clone of one of their favourite games, and more using it as a comparison for how MK could round out much better. MK 'innovations' have a habit of looking more like distractions.

@ Death Bearer, I understand your view of disagreement with MK vs. DC. But at the same time, that can also be said about all crossovers, Sonic in Mario land? SW characters in SC? Marvel people against SF people?

So, technically no crossovers really make any sense but is made for the fans because of the whole "what if scenarios"

Not in such terms of total realism example, what Midway/DC are doing with the damage actually showing on the costumes, bruising, busted off garments/clothes etc SC doesn't have any of that.

The only damage they have is the thing with the armor which they've always had, it's kind of like a shield that breaks off the characters so you can do more damage(to them) but as far as "realistic damage" no fighter has that except MK8 thus far. MK:DA, MKD and MKA also had it with bruising of the face but they didn't sport the other things not until now.

MK doesn't implement things like blood, damage, fatalities for "distractions" but rather because A. it makes sense given what MK is about and fits in within the storyline B. unlike some other fighters (VF/Tekken) which are very much a like, MK likes to stand out and be different, unique from everyone else and C. the fans over the years have grown to love these things as you can see.

SC 2 and 3 didn't have damage. And like hell I'm gonna spend money for what's almost the same goddamn game a third time just because they threw in a Jedi.

It's weird. Seeing Sonya make Superman bleed doesn't really bother me, but seeing a lightsaber hit a metal sword and not cut through it just makes me want the developers to die in a fire. And I like Superman more than I like Star Wars.
