Well, you wouldn't. But somehow I don't think Namco would avoid conventions like that. Look, I like Tekken. But in one of the endings, they used the old (and extremely cliche') face falls into the boobs by accident, resulting in the guy getting his ass kicked by the girl, who's obviously physically weaker. And it happened to Jin... Jin, the guy who's become the new Devil entity of Tekken. What, I would imagine, is the most serious role in the game, right now. So that's not saying a lot.
I take Tekken for what it is: an anime. I just don't want Mortal Kombat to go in that direction.

Nor do I.

Then... What are we debating here?
I'm gonna be truthfull. Though an anime fan, I wouldn't want anime humour to flow into MK. But if, in change for good gameplay, I have to watch Scorpion fall face first into Kitana's boobs, then that's a price I'll gladly pay.
I can always ignore the cinematics and just enjoy the core of the game. Which is just fighting and kicking my opponents ass. Ultimately the reason I buy the game in the first place.

And what if this Anime humor was implemented into Fatalities?
It can't honestly be worse than some of the stupid Fatalities we had in the past. And there were really a bunch of stupid ones. And after having witnessed Babalities and Friendships, Anime influenced Fatalities couldn't possibly be any worse.

Basically lets face it theres going to be alot of postive people and the negative ones even popular games that many people like today I bunch of others hate it so for me im just gonna leave the haters to hate and let them crawl under a shell and wait like another year b4 MK9 comes out
O yeah my expectations was at first thinking weirdly about how was DC going to work with the M rating but then of course we got teen but as always im always excited for a new MK game.

Well, the good characters always had good fatalities.
Frankly, I don't have enough of a problem with MK's current gameplay to consider handing it over to a company notorious for anime.

That wouldn't happen. The Fatalities would just end up more stylized.

What Midway could do is let another Studio do the work, but Boon overviews the whole project. They wouldn't be letting go of their rights.
I think this is what Capcom is actually doing. They are letting Dimps, mostly known for their DBZ Budokai games, do all the programing work, animation, balancing, etc. But Capcom has ultimately the say what is going to end up in the game.
And that's honestly what I would prefer Midway does. Let another party do all the programing, but Boon the creative control. So if he says no anime stuff, there won't be any.

But in that case, I don't think they'd make Ed Boon move to Japan, instead have them work in one of their branch studios in the US, which would mean it's an American team working on it anyway, in which case, problem averted.
Why move? It's 2008. Don't people know how to use Fax, phone, e-mail, web-cams and all stuff?
Preferably I'd want a Japanese company working on it, because they know their ****. There are barely any good american fighters. The only one truly good was Def Jam: Fight for New York. Those mechanics with the speed of MKSM would be a dream come true.

Personal supervision makes things a lot more efficient. Otherwise, they could just hire people and have them work from home. While you're working, the boss could check in on you and say, "No, do this like that," or "I like the way you did that part." Instead, you'd have to have to send the assets over email, have the boss check them over, send his feedback. It would be very inefficient.
And aside from Def Jam and Mortal Kombat, how many American companies HAVE a fighting franchise? It's kind of hard to compare Japanese fighters to American fighters, since there's so few American fighters out there.

That's why I say to choose a Japanese company, because there are more with experience than american companies. American companies mostly develop Wrestling or Boxing games. And from time to time you get gems like Def Jam.
As for the overviewing project, it must somehow have worked on X-Men: Children of the Atom. A beautiful game based on Jim Lee's art, with no anime influence whatsoever. It's just pure american X-Men goodness. I don't see any unwanted anime humour, just awesome gameplay.

No, I didn't see any Anime humor... But, although I haven't played it, reading up on it, I saw nothing that mentioned the presence of cinematics. Plus it was made in 1995, by Capcom. Capcom always did have a good sense of American culture, if nothing else.
But Capcom has disappointed me one too many times, recently, so I wouldn't want to give them Mortal Kombat.

I was pointing out that not all Animes are full of predictable gags and trite dialogue. Some of them are rather down to earth/realistic.
But I say we now debate the merits of delicious, syrupy waffles.

And the Japanese developers aren't stupid. They'd know what was appropriate for the dark tone, though MK has always been cheesily dark.

I agree; just take a look at Silent Hill or Resident Evil.

Well, like I said, if it was Konami who took over MK, I'd totally trust them to do justice to it.

Dammit Biohazard! This about fuckin' waffles! HOT SYRUPY WAFFLES.
....goddammit!
But yeah, I'm down with Konami working on MK.
