The overall feel of the fighting in MK is Blah.
Kind of boring IMO, it's getting better..... slowly, but there is still a lot they can do to make it interesting and exiting.
I like to see a LOT of flashy type moves.
Awesome flip kicks like in the extreme kicks videos or like Lei Wulong's kick in Tekken 4. = uf+3+4, 4.
I want to see some really stylish combos, with maybe a taunt afterward.
Something like in DOA3 when Jan lee hit's the opponent, he starts hopping around and goes in to some kool stance. The first time I saw Jan Lee do that I was like Holy shit! That's awesome.
I love to see stuff like that.
I wish the fireballs were a lot more creative. Instead of just a ball of light like almost everybody has, they can do a lot of original things with it.
The fireballs could be a beam, a wave, a shock wave, vertical line, horizontal line like Jax MK2 wave, they could be thrown in different directions, they can be charged, they can take the shape of something like the last fireball Shang Tsung did to Rayden in the intro FMV. When the fireball turns in to a giant cobra.
I wanna see stuff like that in the game.
They could be used in combos, throws, reversals, on counter hits.
Maybe some specific characters can do Marvel VS capcom style air combos with the aid of their special powers.
Someone like Rayden = Super speed teleportation, He would flash white and do the air combo. Can do 1 to 3 hits in the air
Ermac / Kenshi = use their telekinetic powers to make you stay in the air. Can do 1 to 4 hit's in the air.
Kabal = Uses his hyper speed to get in 1to 3 hit's in the air.
Fujin = Uses wind to keep you in the air. 1 to 4 hits
Some characters can do more or less depending on the type of power they have.
There are a lot of different ways they can use the special abilities.
They should try to be more creative. Try to make the specials look epic too, like something you would see in a movie. Just watch the intro FMV for MKD for an example.
They need to take advantage of the 3D world they are in now. Even more so now that they are making MK7 for the PS3.
They should also add things like a fireball causing damage to a wall. The fireball might break a wall opening up a path to a death trap.
Or have the fireball hit someone in a crowd. If there is a big crowd, You might see an explosion of people. Like in the Matrix reloaded when Neo is fighting the 100 Smiths, but they fly backwards instead of up. They might even explode in to pieces making a bloody mess on the wall behind them and on the other spectators........
I want to see some real epic looking visuals!
I also think the air game could make a come back.
In kung fu movies, you see people fight in the air. That would be pretty kool in MK.
I don't mean like long combos in the air like in Marvel VS Capcom 2
I mean something more like street fighter 3. You can attack and block in the air.
But you can do a air projectile after a an attack in the air like in the old MK's
So basically, Like in the 2D MK's, but with distinctive attacks for every style, like in street fighter and maybe you can block.
The jump kick should come back like in the old games too. So we can do those old style juggle combos.
The jump in punch should work like in street fighter. I never found the jump in punch in MK to be of any use. Except for in UMK3. Almost every time I use it in MK2 I get hit right after.
But I think the street fighter custom style would be better.

Great input, gentlemen.
I think another letdown about MK:D is the special effects seen in special moves.
Let us all take Kabal's renewed Tornado Spin Dash move. Remember how awesome it looked in UMK3? Well, it has been brought back to MK:D, and man, does it look a lot weaker compared to UMK3. A stupid green sparkle effect? WTF!?!

A STUPID GREEN SPARKLE EFFECT!! Kabal used to quicky dash past the opponent in an extremely fast-looking copper/silver-colored streak. Now, he clumsily jogs past the opponent followed by a gay green mist! Also, when the opponent spins, he slowly spins, surrounded by a spiral, glittery-green mist. Gay.
I think Midway needs to shore up their special effects for MK7. MK7 is going to be on PS3, so, let's all hope that Midway can really beef up the effects engine.

It's amazing how such a "negative" thread can inspire some of the most thoughtful posts. You are completely correct that playing MK is like fighting on Jupiter, you don't leave the ground much (yes I know there is no physical surface to jupiter). Anyways to somewhat add to what you are suggesting for a bit more focus on aerial combat I thought...
Hey why not in the rounds before the final round the players be able to execute a "super move" when the enemy has reached a certain health level. This would. This might be much easier then making every special move elaborate. Instead when they do their super move(s) it would be very epic like the Shang fireball you were talking about. This way adding more effects to the moves wouldn't hurt the framerate because when the super move was executed it could pan around the characters or even better allow the user to control the camera while the super move was being executed. This isn't very MK style, but I deffinately would love to see something this fresh added to our game.

I think the gameplay should really improve. Here are my ideas...
Each character should have only two fighting styles, a hand-to-hand style and a weapon style. Everyone should start out in their hand-to-hand stance and only be able to switch into their weapon style by pressing a certain button combination, like in MK4. Once a fighter presses the correct buttons, a short animation should show the fighter taking out their weapon. A fighter should also have the ability to throw their weapon, or put it back were it was. If you get hit really hard, you should have to release your weapon and go back to your hand-to-hand stance. The weapon stance should have just as much moves as the hand-to-hand stance and every stance should be very expansive. For example, every stance should have an “up Y” move, a “down Y” move, a “left Y” move, a “right Y” move, an “up-left Y” move, an “up-right Y” move, a “down-left Y” move, a “down-right Y” move, “up B” move, a “down B” move, a “left B” move, a “right B” move, an “up-left B” move, an “up-right B” move, a “down-left B” move, a “down-right B” move, “up X” move, a “down X” move, a “left X” move, a “right X” move, an “up-left X” move, an “up-right X” move, a “down-left X” move, a “down-right X” move, “up A” move, a “down A” move, a “left A” move, a “right A” move, an “up-left A” move, an “up-right A” move, a “down-left A” move, and a “down-right A” move. There should also be more throws, and some counters.

1. A chess game and a puzzle fighting game for a dark game? This is by far the stupidest idea I have ever seen in the MK series...even over the likes of Bo Rai Cho and Mokap...these games may be fun, addicting, or whatever, but it kind of hurts the image of such a brutal fighting game...just dumb, rushed ideas to make the game vary online
2. Fatalities are the same...ripping people in pieces with different ways of doing so...
3. Bo Rai Cho's comic relief is the best way to put it for those who call it that...its not funny, its childish, and for such a 'mature' game, it seems like with the chess/puzzle fighting with big headed characters/Rai Cho making body noises...this was aimed at 7th graders...Johnny Cage was annoying, but at least he didn't break MK's image...
4. The lack of surviving characters from MKDA...no logic...Cyrax and Kung Lao haven't been confirmed...but yet they are part of a few people who actually survived in everyone's endings...im pretty damn tired of Cyrax 'missing', 'lost', or whatever...
5. Ninja hype will be the death of the franchise, whether anyone notices the obssession or not...its just plain stupid, that the favoritism is being picked over the storyline...you can't keep altering the story (Smoke) to make people happy with their favorite character back...it seems like almost every story for returning characters is reset in each game, but yet again somehow ties into all the characters of the game...ive heard Cyrax played horrible...but even Bo Rai Cho fans would say 'some people can actually play well with them'...I sure as hell could...even if the character plays horribly...thats an excuse to bring in the favorites?...its because people dont give a character a chance, and already has his or her mind locked on a specific character they like, blocking out the possibility of a character actually being decent
6. This site was a good idea when it came to helping Boon and Company come up with ideas, and hear what the fans have to say...but now its gotten overrun with favoritism to the point where popularity overpowers logic...
Slica - I just personally think, honestly not in a complaint, but in my honest opinion, that this series is running on thin ice, simply because the series doesn't remember where it came from...adding past characters doesn't make the game stick with its roots...the style does...and the style is fading out because most of the 'fans' have grown spoiled and stopped caring for the series' future, because they want everything now, thus pressuring Boon to change this and that up to please the majority...whether its the ninja likers or the online players...just let the developers be or make the damn game yourself, which will most likely be ruining this franchise in the long run anyways

I don't know if I should complain yet, I haven't played the game. From what i've seen I can't even really tell you, since the videos are so blurry to me. I just think that Deception will be bigger and better than DA, and i'm happy just for that reason alone. I expect ALOT out of MK7 though, especially if it's on the PS3 or XBOX2.

If we want a lot from MK7, we'd better let Midway know what needs to be cleaned up. The fans need to speak up and be heard. If you are fed up with something, voice your opnion and crush the fanboys' annoying whining against such criticism.
Another thing that really PISSES ME OFF about the newest Mortal Kombat fighting games are the character endings. Text and picture endings have become lame. The technology is now at a point where video endings can be achieved at a very high level.
Sure, MK4's video endings sucked, but that was several years ago. We've seen how good Full-Motion Videos can be, by watching the MK trailers. It would be quite awesome if the MK series finally went to Full-Motion Video endings!
Don't give me that crap about space! If all of the Tekken games are able to fit FMV endings for very character on one disc, then MK can!
Text and picture endings are boring, anti-climatic, and of the past. Time for the MK series to step foward in that area and adopt Full-Motion Video endings for every MK character, including hidden and unlockable!

OMG...again with this?.....confused
THE DEVELOPERS NEED THE PUBLICS OPINION TO MAKE THE NEXT GAME BETTER!!!
We are still going to play the game, but if we can think of something that would help the developers make the next MK better then.
We have to tell them!
Think about it this way.
One who does not speak is not heard.
So if you don't say what you want, you won't get it.
You understand now?
Sorry, I'm usually a very calm person, but these kinds of posts are starting to irritate me.
Why can't some people understand?
It's so simple.
We don't need to play the game first hand to be able to point stuff out that we've seen on video and have been told by Boon him self.
I'm sure even more things will be pointed out once we have the game, but there are many things we can talk about that don't require that.

Are you people fuckin stupid? Seriously.
1)TO the people saying "Why don't you just e-mail your complaints to Midway". Ed Boon, John Vogel, and other numerous people on the MK team visit this site and read what users have to say about MK, and how they can improve.
2)To the people saying "Then don't come to this site if you don't like MK:D" First of all this isnt only an MKD site, and some people are looking forward to a new MK game, but MKD just seems like a disappointment. It's their opinion and live with it, it doesnt affect you in any way, just get the game when it comes out and enjoy it.
3)To the people saying "Stop making threads like these". Nobody is forcing you to read any of these threads, if you can't handle people having a different opinion from yours, then don't bother even checking out these threads. I like more thought provoking threads like this one(not ones similar to this but with stupid reasons) than threads like "Shoa Kahn is the Dragon King/Reiko/Reptile" and stupid crap like that.
4)People who say "Don't say the game sucks before you play it". I can agree with that, but people saying this game is gonna rule are also prejudging the game in a similar way.
People all have opinions, it doesnt always have to be the same, learn to live with it, or (unlike me) be more mature about it. If you don't like people dissing MKD, just don't bother reading threads like these, they're only gonna piss you off, or cause even more bitching.

That was sexy smile.
The game is made for retards, period. Everything from the fats being easy as hell to pull off to the gameplay. Wanting "simple" is one thing. Being fed a sugar tit and having your ass wiped for you, is another.
The gameplay is going to be better than DA, but how the hell could it not be? DA wasn't even a fighting game. The actual gameplay mechanics are still extremely sub-par. I have enough intellect and experience to comprehend this. Though, I guess my standard of a fighting game is a bit skewed. I actually want proper movemnt. Hit properties. I don't want quick fixes to canned spam, I want thought out design decisions to fix canned spam. Whatever, though.

Anyone remember Bushido Blade? That was the greatest weapons game IMO because it was true to life. If you get your arm chopped with a sword then its not gonna work properly if at all. If you were stabbed in the gut it was over. Now I'm not sure how well this would play out in MK because it could lead to some short matches, but I've been disappointed ever since weapons were added and there was no difference between being slashed with a sword and a punch to the face.

FMV endings can only tell what is happening at the current moment, whereas text and picture endings can tell things that happen over any span of time. A combination of the two ala Tekken 4 is more suitable for a game as story-driven as MK.

I think they should have spent more time on the gameplay, blood graphics, and better fatalities. I've seen at least 10 of the fatalities so far and about 2 have really looked creative. I know the whole reason people ever loved this game was because of the characters and Fatalities. It was the first game where you could kill someone which looked somewhat realistic and cool for that matter. It feels as the years have gone by they just fill the game with fatalities to have them and not make them fun to watch!

Those were a stroke of genius, a few picture scenes to explain and then a cut-scene showing the important parts would be brilliant.
Hopefully the cut-scenes would be of the standard of a certain movie that i dare not speak it's name tongue

i don't have much to complain about with mk:d. the entire mk series has given me a lot of joy for the past decade+ and i'm just glad that it's still around(things were looking grim after mk4.)
i didn't like how crazy hard mk:da was even on medium difficulty, (esp. moloch, shang...) i didn't care for a lot of the new characters or their fatalities. well it looks like the mk team has fixed most of these problems. some of the fatalities are a little unimaginative but i like most of them i've seen so far. the hari-kiris are excellent and this game seems like it probably has the best cast of characters in an mk game since mk3.
and the presentation, effects, graphics, and stage design(especially the throwbacks) are for the most part tremendously better than they were for mk:da.
